28 times?

I thought I have OCD, but now I think i am normal. I exchanged 4, and asked for refund now.

Hi there,

I received my third replacement today and it still doesn't make me happy. First one had a loose bottom, made a weird noise everytime I picked it up, second one had IR issues (LG), the current one's trackpad is making sounds if I just touch it. I have no clue what could be the problem here and probably I'm not going to replace it because I'm feared to get once again one with heavy IR issues.
What I learned: Next time I'm definitely going to buy one at a store, so that I can show them the issue I have, they realize that I'm not joking and replace it. The conversations with the guys at the apple online store are annoying...

I've been anticipating selling my MBA 2011 and buying a retina MBP... this thread has me doubting my plans though. Geez, lots of issues with them.

Remember, people only really post problems. The MAJORITY of folks are very happy with their rMBP. I am, i have a LG screen and its perfect.....the whole thing is great.

You have a serious ocd problem. If I was Apple, then I would refuse to sell anything to you ever again. 28 times and in 14 days at that, jeez....

It is my right as a customer to be satisfied with the purchase of any product.
I am not blindly going in and returning. I reproduce the issue and they replace it for me. The fault is on their end, not mine.

Jeez, some of you are ridiculous.

I have owned 2 13" macbook pro's, 2 macbook air's, an imac, an ipad and the new ipad and I have never returned any of them.

There is no such thing as a perfect product. Even with cars which cost 30 thousand dollars you will encounter imperfections, creaks here and there or what not.

If you are returning a product 4 or 5 times, you might want to consider that you have an obsessive compulsive issue and it might not be the product you are buying.

obviously

What's the most number of exchange (replacements) for retina in here?

I am on my 4th retina. LG, has IR issue. First 3 all samsungs, either dead pixels, backlight bleed.

I am thinking just return and wait a few months.

there are more people discussing about blemishes and looking for problems in consumer products here than there are those posting about what they are CREATING with the technology, obviously there is more interest in all this POWER and THIN form factor but no powerhouse productions or evidence of that anywhere on here.

the only representation on this forum are the consumers rather than the PROs seems.

this thread highlights the truth that when given all these choices and shiny new things to buy, NO ONE is gonna be satisfied because all these options are causing paralysis to see clearly hah!

I sort of agree with you though my thought is not so much ridiculous as unrealistic.

I think for a good portion here, a Macbook pro (or retina) may be the most expensive thing they have ever purchased and therefore assume they should get perfection but are not taking in to account that this is a mass produced (in the tens or perhaps hundreds of thousands) item that is highly unlikely to be truly "flawless".

They might want to google the term "manufacturing tolerances"

I have a cousin who does high end custom kitchens for some very exclusive clientele. When he does the work he has an extensive discussion about how "perfect" it will be and that the higher the bar the higher the cost. That might mean buying three countertops to get one that meets the criteria

Apple or any other manufacturer would probably have to at least quadruple their prices to meet the expectations of some here

have a rmbp noticed ir (didnt test for it) a weird launchpad problem and booting up to a black screen. I didnt look for these issues but they got quite annoying. sent it in to apple but they didnt find the issues i mentioned. Going to email Mr. Tim Cook and see if he could get me an exchange. If not, I can live with it. But i didnt look for the issues. cant return it because its a BTO model

?? Of course you can return it.

I can only talk about my experiences but when I'm inspecting cmbp's I find that they're flawless. All my colleagues are working with cmbp's and no one has ever returned one. When I show them the issues I have (which are mostly related to the unibody), they're like "I would return this thing immediately"
The reason I'm not returning the one I have now (second replacement) is because I'm feared to get an even worse... that's not the feeling I usually have with apple products...

I've bought far more Apple products than you have, and have ended up perfect products of each one. Sometimes on first purchase (iMac, some Airs, some Pros) and sometimes after many exchanges (iPads).

Just because you aren't a discerning customer, doesn't mean we have to stoop to your level of tolerance. That doesn't make for better Quality Assurance or better products at all.

Oh, and yes, my 30,000 car had creaks and rattles, that were fixed within the first week of ownership through warranty. That's what the warranty is for.

Apple products are nice, but they aren't Q/A proof. The iPads are proof of that.

The model I settled on was my 6th. If you're one of those people who can live w/ flaws of your machines, good for you. I cannot. As a customer who paid 2.5k premium on a piece of laptop, I have every right to be as picky as I see fit. Luckily my current machine has me satisfied, so no more exchanges or returns unless dead pixels pop up over night. :)

The Apple guy said if it's a bto model it can't be returned

You definitely can. Talk to another Apple rep. Mine was a BTO model as well, before getting a second replacement, I was given two options, full refund or another replacement.

Perhaps choosing another product would be better. I'm happy to say i've never returned anything more than once, and never will. I buy something, and if there's a problem I return it. If the problem persists, i 'try' to get my money back so I can a different product.

Frankly this type of conduct i'm seeing, I can't give my honest opinion about as it would be against forum rules.

I just did an IR test and it looks like my LG monitor has the problem :(. School is about to start soon and I have apple care so I think I may just wait until break to replace it. At least that way I won't need to keep playing rMBP lottery on getting a good one, and maybe by then they'll have this sorted out. I should also note that I usually have an actual desktop picture instead of just a plain color so it's not very noticeable yet.

Ok will call again and see if they can let me exchange it and ship one to my local store. I can't go another week without it.

Hahaha. Don't you love it when some guy on the internet tells other people what they should do with their money? Not trying to pick a fight or anything, but it's always hilarious when people think they can give advices to other people just b/c it applies to themselves hence it will apply to everyone else. Thanks for the laugh. I needed that. :)

Uh, what?

Listen, you guys who return over and over know your out of control. It's alright. Who really cares?
No one. Just that your going to get some heat by people who don't share your....particular idiosyncrasy

I was just at a major department store and was talking to the manager. He said about 80% of the people who shop there abuse the return policy. I said that the upper management know what they are doing, so they must be making money with the arrangement. Apple certainly doesn't need to condone this type of thing. But regardless, it's a case of the many being penalized by the frivolity of the few. But that makes the world go round doesn't it? :D

Read carefully what I wrote and introspect. Then maybe you can grasp of the gist of my post. I'm not going to explain myself over.

Listen, you guys who return over and over know your out of control.

So according to your logic, if I return my laptop so many times due to defects, I'm out of control. Is that right? You're such a comedian man. W/ a talent like that, you sure will have no problem entertaining people for a living. Hahaha. You've made my day buddy. :)

Once again, returning defective machines is abusing the return policy 80% of the time. Hmm...lol, well I really don't know what to say anymore. Clearly someone who can't even dinstinguish your and you're tells me something about their level of basic education. Dealing w/ such people is not my area of expertise, so enjoy the rest of your day lol. You won't hear from me again. :)

I received my 4th a couple of days ago, and just requested another replacement due to the bottom half of the screen being tinted.

It also came with an iPad, after I waited 6 months without one due to returning 5 on launch, which is also going to be returned due to the awful screens still not being fixed. Definitely thinking about just going with an iPad Mini until the improved A6 iPad is out next year.

The amount of replacements I'm going through must be costing Apple a decent bit of money, as well as wasting my time. That money should be spent on quality control instead of shipping replacement macbooks all the way from China!

I agree with you.
