Whats the most you've ever spent on a watch

$4.5K on a Seamster years ago.

I'm worried that I'll be so used to a certain quality of watch, I'll never be happy with what's being produced by Apple.

There's also the disparity between quality watches and lesser ones, and the general public's ignorance of it. It's something that Apple could use to their advantage, as many fashion watch brands do. It wouldn't surprise me if Apple sells the watch as a "premium product" when it's actually low quality Chinese crap, understanding the average person won't know better.

There are good quality watches made in China, but they're few and far between and many of them are actually being made for swiss companies. Hamilton for instance has most of their cases made in Hong Kong. So there is hope for Apple. I just hope they don't sell out to the lowest bidder on this one.

There's also the quality of the bands and straps. I can't wear a watch with a cheap band, and good bands are going to cost you in the watch world; easily in the hundreds of dollars.

Call me a pessimist, but I just don't see Apple having legions of cheap labor pumping out large sums of quality watches.

Agreed. The Breitling stainless link band is $500 by itself, without the watch. I really don't think the average consumer has any understanding or reference point for how much these things cost.

That said, I do think the Apple bands will be very good quality, and will have prices commensurate with that.

In other words, I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by the pricing. Very surprised.

US$ 30K for Patek Calatrava
US$ 27K for Patek Nautilus
US$ 45K for Patek Complication
US$ 11K for cartier
US$ 7K for BVLGARI
US$ 5K for Tag
US$ 2K for Tag

I think I will be going for the apple watch in polished steel with a black strap :) I honestly can't wait to have it :)

Apple watch will be my day wearer and will use the luxury watches in the Evenings - Dinner's , Parties etc.....

Can't remember what I paid for my Omega Seamaster 12 years ago, but seems like they are going for $4-5k now.

Spent another $1k on it 18 months ago to have it re-built and upgrade the band to one of the newer ones.

we have similar tastes. That exact watch is riding my wrist as I type this. Holy moly... are they really going to $4-5K now?? I paid $900 for it in 1999. I need to sell this thing.

Do you have the quartz?

I think there were four options at the time when I bought mine in 2001. Couple of sizes in both quartz and automatic? Or maybe just the two sizes. I bought the automatic as it was larger, self-winding and I love the sweep of the second hand in automatics.

Shows how great a watch it is and why I will never sell...unless it hits $5k...:p

Automatic, can't remember what the size is. Love the watch, but if I can get $2K for it id sell.

I've hardly ever worn a watch for the last 5-7 years. My wife gave me a titanium Citizen EcoDrive a decade ago, and it still works fine if I leave it in the sun for a day to charge up. It's a $250-300 watch now. I don't what we paid for it originally.

I've also gone through 3 generations of Garmin running watches in the last decade, from a 201 to a 315 to a 310xt. I paid $206 for the 310xt in July 2012, and it's still going strong after several thousand miles.

So an Apple Watch, if I buy one as I expect, will definitely be the most expensive "watch" I've ever bought. I can see the appeal of watches as cool gadgets or mechanical works of art, but I tend to spend my hobby dollars on firearms or, more recently, photography equipment.

Currently rocking this beast:

£7.99 of awesomeness.

I got a couple of Seiko Kinetic watches. Some of them are around $1000,- (€800,-). Have not worn one of them since the Pebble Kickstarter edition was deliverd. My Pebble is now been replaced by A Pebble Steel.

I haven't had a watch for at least 15 years. I think the most I spent was about 200$, and now I am thinking about the Apple Watch of course. I am not prepared to spend more than 500-600$, but first I need to be convinced I want one.

This thread proves to me that the Apple Watch is indeed a premium fashion accessory, and will be marketed as thus.

Its electronic 'smart watch' functions are actually secondary to its primary purpose.

It's about status. Not about function.

But then we all knew that.....

Around £230 for my Tissot Racing T-Touch which was half price, was in a fantastic sale plus I got some extra off it, it was discontinued a couple of months later, it was a birthday present. I also spent around 200 for another Tissot as a gift for someone.

I was also given my dad's watch after he passed away, a solid gold automatic Omega, my mum thinks she paid around £69 when she got it for him as a wedding present. It's probably worth around 400? I'm not sure but I know a new one is around 4 grand. That's inflation for you.

I don't think I could spend a million on a watch like the very few do, well I assume they do as people sell them for that.

£200-250 for my stainless steel Hugo Boss watch. Interested in an apple watch sport because I don't think I'd be able to justify the cost of the stainless steel model, although I do like it.

The most expensive watch I've had was a watch I got for 20 bucks at target. I'm not a watch or jewelry person. I never wear them for more than a few months before putting them in drawer some where.

About $10 for a Casio. They were < $10 twenty years ago. They are still around $10 on Amazon (they were smart enough never to change it).

Best watch made (in a way). So light you don't know it's there.

Tells time, etc.

Doesn't tweet.

But they are now obsolete because of cells. The phones have made way for what's coming today.

It's weird. The time when you actually needed a watch. I use to wear them long ago :D

Lots of buzz around here today. Which I could own a Rolex or AP. Just financially stupid for my current position.
