Haha I don't come to macrumors for financial advice.
I don't know about you, but I think I'm doing just fine.

And yes, my Patek is among the cheapest Pateks you can buy (thay distinction goes to Aquanut for men's watches around 19000 I think).
Hopefully business goes well this year and I can get some nice complications into my collection.

I hope it goes well for you! This is my favorite.

And what do you (and everyone else who loves watches) think of the likes of apple watch?

I think its a nice toy, something to go into a rotation. I would get one, but not wear it every day thats for sure.

Do you already tend to rotate your watches? Or do you wear one every day?

At the moment I have 3 watches, wear one most of the time and rotate the other two.

If I were to pick up an Apple watch I would wear it randomly (unless I am absolutely in love with it then I would wear it 3-4x a week)

So no chance of you wearing it everyday?

I would say that for anyone that actually collects timepieces and has more than 2-3 they have no plans on wearing an watch everyday. I at best plan on wearing only when I go to the gym and the occasional work day.

Unlike a luxury watch, the Apple Watch has the potential for serious utility. I haven't seen anything compelling enough to really understand the nuances of daily usage, but I sure as hell am not going to rule it out. I do have a second wrist. :)

My husband thought the tag was the SKU :)

I have a Movado diamond bracelet mounted in platinum. I still laugh when I think of my husband's reaction that visit to the jeweler.

$75 for my Red Pebble, first and only watch. It was in mint condition and it had a leather SlickWrap on it that I removed. Just took a pic, it's a bit dirty at the moment from wet sand, but it seems to hold up well for what I put it through.

Getting notifications on it is great since I can keep my phone on vibrate all day long, and the battery is wonderful for a smart watch (5-7 days). Also easily readable outside because of the e-paper screen. Really curious to see the :apple: Watch battery life. But it would be out of my price range for a watch.

Edit: Cleans up nicely :)

I just wear what I fancy each day, what does with whatever I'm wearing, and what I'm going to be doing that day.

Today, for example, I'm playing badminton at lunchtime, and moving some computers in the afternoon. I'm wearing blue jeans and a grey/black jumper, so I've gone for a lightweight G-Shock in matt black, with blue subdials.

Tomorrow I'll need to wear a suit to meet external clients, so I'll probably be wearing a vintage Omega with a blue dial (to match the blue suit) or something on a dark brown leather strap (to match the shoes).

So given all that, I hope the :apple:watch is customisable so I can wear it with more than one outfit!

As for the Pebble - I'm still really interested in getting one. I had heard they don't work that well with iPhones though, more made for Android? Have you found that at all, BrettApple?

I'm an Android and iOS user, and I haven't had any problems using either platforms with the Pebble (one reason I got it was for compatibility).

There may have been issues early on but there has been lots of software updates to it. 2.0 was a major one and 2.6 came out last week with full iOS 8 support. Seems to work just fine on my iPhone 5 running iOS 8, and my HTC One M8.

There are some differences in the Apps you can install, since Android is more open on allowing system access (see phone battery, send SMS through watch), but most apps work on both iOS and Android and notifications on the iPhone essentially mirror the notification center, where as on Android it's on a per app basis and you have to sign in to each email account and app through the Pebble. So I actually prefer the iPhone in that instance.

bought my first high-end watches last year
$29k+tax Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 5127
$16k+tax Breguet (Reine de Naples, actually for the lady)
Rolex GMT Master 8K plus tax
Rolex Datejust

A diamond decorated junky Dior watch for the lady - 15k plus tax
Chanel j12 with Diamond - don't remember

A few old Cartier Pantheres. ..

Baller status.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing. Might look seriously into getting one now.

Not much. Less than $300. I can see spending $3k on a beautiful classic watch that won't be obsolete for decades. To spend it on a watch that will be within years... nope.

it seems like there is no in between. Its either 100 dollars or 19,000 dollars for some people here

Not even. I have everything from a $10 Casio (that I do wear quite a lot) to a $6k Panerai and a whole collection of vintage Omegas.

Most days I'll wear something like a Seiko or Citizen diver - around $200-400. Sometimes if I know I'm not fiddling with hardware at work I'll wear a Sinn, Cuervo y Sobrinos or Longines worth around $2k. Weekends it could be a secondhand $20 G-Shock if I'm washing the cars, or something vintage - value not important.

It's about having the right watch for the right situation. You might not think that's important, other people do.

Same here.
I have gshocks and a few other Quartz cheapies less than $500 as well as rolex and higher.

I have three Omegas, cheapest of which was $2k. The oldest is 15 years old and functions perfectly

Lifespan of the most expensive Apple watch puts it the junk drawer within 3 to 5 years unless they have a rebuilding program in the works for the premium models.

You spent $29,000 on a watch?! A watch?! There is about a million better things you could have spent that money on. Watches seem like the biggest waste of money ever, to me. You must be rolling in it if you've got that much to spend on a watch, though. I'm sorry but no watch is worth that much money.

----------

I think you need to take a good, long look at yourself if you're spending any more than £1,000 on a watch. Because it absolutely is not worth it and you're about to waste a lot of money. I absolutely cannot see the worth of buying an expensive watch. Unless you're very very rich and have money to throw away.

It's responses like this that lead people of means away from sites like this and to places like Netropolitan where condescension from those with less doesn't happen. We really need to be cool with everybody regardless of their place. Some people have more money, some people have less. The fact of the matter is that EVERYONE on this forum could use a Chromebook or Lumia and be just fine. Everyone on this board likes nice stuff and pays Apple extra because it is nice. No different than anything else. People buy the best that they can afford. Some people can afford more, but being an a** does not create a sense of community for all.

Rant off

Well I'll say it is obvious the idea that someone with less is commenting. I don't comment, I could spend $29k on a watch or some other crazy item, I think it is crazy that someone would spend $29k on a watch but I think generally someone spending more than $200 on a non-fitness watch is crazy :p But I generally don't post it. I think people that spend $29k on a watch hang out with other people that will spend $29k on a watch which is why they are spending $29k on a watch in the first place.
