there is some adapting to it. to replace usb I use dropbox which works great. The on-screen keyboard isn't ideal but it does the trick for some light typing. you definitely need another computer for more intensive work like formating documents but on the go the iPad is great.

Don't forget you can easily pair a bluetooth keyboard to the iPad for full-blown typing.

It depends on what you want to use it for. When I got my iPad, I knew right away what I want to do with it, which was to read e-mail on my way to and from places. I also used it for different occasions though, like reading e-books instead of textbooks themselves, playing games, doing quick research in busy places, and especially showing my web design portfolio. The iPad is a wonderful thing to have on your side if you know what you'll use it =].

Just because people and I have other reasons that may not be relevant to your needs doesn't mean the iPad is pointless though. The iPad is actually universal in almost all situations. I just read a thread about someone doing their taxes with their ipad while on break! That's cool!!!

But if you want a brief answer, then it's for getting tasks done. It's not like a laptop or computer where you have to do heavy duty tasks that require a lot of saving and storing--the iPad is just a great tool for getting the job done quicker and smoother :D.

I've been looking into getting an ipad 2, but I'm not sure I see the point of it..What do you guys do with yours?

Why would you even consider getting an iPad if you don't "get the point"? I don't get the point of bungie jumping off a bridge, and I'm sure as hell not considering doing it anyway.

Why would you even comment if you don't like the thread? I don't read threads I don't like, and I'm sure as hell not going to comment on them.

Because it's so awesome you can't even see the point of owning one, and still want one. ;)

I want one because I could do everything I do on my iPhone with more screen real estate:

Gaming, emails, forum browsing, research, notes, checking the weather, etc.

And, since it's a larger screen with keyboards available, it would be more portable than my 17" MBP for writing on the go.

That said, I bought one out of curiosity....

I'm throwing down a big BS card on this one. Your whole explanation sounds like an all talk, no show kind of reasoning. Why spend $500 out of curiosity when you can use one all the live long day at your nearest Apple Store or Best Buy? Curiosity....whatever.

I bought a first generation iPad and what attracted me at the time was the big touchscreen. I mean, there was no company that had a tablet for such a low price with such an advanced touchscreen (mulitouch, capacitive).

I found it fascinating how you could 'touch' the web and do all of these casual things. I didn't exactly know how I would use it: I also just wanted to try it out. If I didn't like it, I would sell it (Apple resale value is high) so it's really a low-risk purchase.

So as it turns out, the iPad isn't always the fastest option but it is way more fun. It's also much more mobile and I have brought it (for several times) with me on holiday. :)
