Can't seem to think of anything particular. I thought the ending of Six Feet Under was spectacular but rather sad.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I cried at the end of the last episode of Six Feet Under. Probably in good part due to to that Sia song playing in the background.
I would assume that I also cried after the last episode of Arrested Development, albeit for different reasons. :)
The season finale of the most recent Dexter was pretty heartbreaking as well.

Well, that was actually a very cheap way to shock the audience, which the authors couldn't resist I guess :p I didn't particularly feel like the story up to that point really allowed for such an ending...

The only thing I can vividly remember is when they killed off Colonel Blake in M*A*S*H. Totally unexpected, very emotional.
Agree completely.

I don't know if you know the story behind that ending. They never told the cast what was going to happen, they just let the cameras roll in the operating room scene and had Radar walk in. Unfortunately, a noise blew the shot and they had to do it again. But all of those reactions were from the heart.

Another favorite: the finale of Babylon 5 (spoiler below):

When they blew up the station (to this great crescendo of music), my heart just sank. It was doubly emotional because you'd seen the image prophesied, but you'd been led to believe it would be some great disaster...and here it was "just" being decommissioned. It was at the same time an act of revelation and relief, and a moment of sadness.

And a minute later, you see Delenn sitting beside the "ghost" of Sheridan, watching the sunrise, and are told she did this every day for the rest of her life. Hell, I'm getting teary-eyed just remembering it.

Never really watch shows like that; documentaries are sad sometimes, but not very often :D

Season 3 finale of The OC with Imogen Heap's haunting rendition of 'Hallelujah'.

Sad on many levels, but most poignantly because of the way life imitated art for Mischa Barton when all her wheels fell off shortly afterwards :(

Party of 5 when the family confronts the man who kills their parents. Not really a spoiler, as this is how the show starts...

I still think one of the saddest moments in tv are the following:

When the col dies in MASH. The expression on Radars face is priceless.
There was a scene in ER where the wife went out to get some coffee for her and her husband and she is attacked and dies. The husband who was over come with grief put on a super powerful scene.

Last year the BBC broadcast 'Wounded', a documentary following the recovery of two soldiers injured in Afghanistan. It featured a young Para who'd lost both his legs and an arm in an explosion and was adamant that he was going to walk across the parade ground with his colleagues to receive his medal. Whilst, maybe, it wasn't 'sad' per se, the footage of him doing it only a few months on from him suffering his injuries had me floods of tears. Incredibly humbling.

The episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when Will's father comes back.

That last scene when his father leaves and Will breaks down to Uncle Phil is incredibly poignant for a supposed prime time comedy.

Generally, for me, the saddest moment in a TV show is when they start.
Most of them are sooo lame.
Conversely, for the handful of shows that I actually enjoy, the saddest moment is the last scene of the finale.

^^ This be true, the painful pointlessness of it all was nearly too much to bear.

"For us, the Great War is finito, a war which would be a damn sight simpler if we just stayed in England and shot fifty thousand of our men a week." Blackadder

The war to end all wars,a bigger load of bollocks it's hard to imagine.

I was very sad when LOST ended, because I knew it would be the last LOST episode ever shown (except for the epilogue). Yes, the show was ultimately about the characters, and that was the point the writers were trying to make in the final season. The actual saddest part for me is probably the character of Locke. He went through the most sh#t any character on any show been through. His redemption kind of memory scene in the finale was really good.
I will be honest though. The only thing that got my eyes watery was The pursuit of Happiness (movie I know). Borat too (tears of laughter) (Bruno not so much).

Finale of Lost. AAAAaaaahhhhhhhhhh I still can't believe its over... :(

Yeah me too. When Charlie died was a sad moment too. Because when Desmond said, 'Youre gonna die Charlie', I thought 'ok he'll end up saving him somehow' but that never happened. My sig is actually one of charlies cool one liners. It made me laugh out very loudly (lovl??) . I'm not sure if it's too specific and that many people will get it, but oh well.

The ending of the final episode of "St. Elsewhere".

The entire final episode of "Mad About You"

Lots of times in ER...
ER. Episode: Love's Labour's Lost.
I also thought the episode in which Mark Greene died was exceptionally sad and exceptionally well-handled.
...but for me, it's the entire final season. I started watching the show from the first season. I'm about the same age as Dr Carter, so it was a "what might have been" for me, had I made a different career choice, over the years. Technology progressed over the years, and I refused to watch the final season when it was broadcast. Instead, I bought the whole season on iTunes and have watched the first few episodes of the final season on my MacBook, on my iPod, on my iPhone.... I still haven't watched all of them. I don't want to yet. As long as there are unwatched episodes, it's not really "over" for me yet... :(:(:(

I totally agree with this, and am surprised that so many here know about it:
when they killed off Colonel Blake in M*A*S*H.
MASH when Henry is killed on his trip back to the US after his tour is over.
When the col dies in MASH. The expression on Radars face is priceless.
And how could I forget that episode of MASH when Henry's death is announced. That one still gets me. I read a story about how they sprung that one on the actors as well, so some of the surprised expressions on their faces is legit.
I don't know if you know the story behind that ending. They never told the cast what was going to happen, they just let the cameras roll in the operating room scene and had Radar walk in. Unfortunately, a noise blew the shot and they had to do it again. But all of those reactions were from the heart.

Speaking of "Arrested Development," there is a scene near the end of the pilot episode that always gets me, no matter how many times I've seen it now. Michael and George Michael are getting ready to leave the Bluth family behind when GM runs into Lindsay in the attic of the model home. The conversation that they have is uncharacteristically poignant for "Arrested Development".
