Doesn't it make perfect sense that Apple would hold back a product for the release of ML? And that the iMac was the perfect product to do this with?

My vision on how the redesigned retina iMac (2013) will look: Imagine the current iMac, but switch out the foot to a box resembling the Mac Mini, containing, with it's own cooling, a beastly graphics card for all those pixels. ^^

Not the iMac specifically, the Mac Mini is due for an update so that fits perfectly, but if Apple are indeed going with Nvidia 680M in either of the iMacs it would make perfect sense to put embargo on it until ML due to the short time from the release of that GPU to ML.

I'm still confident that Apple will release an updated iMac in July with Mountain Lion or in August, before the Back To School program.

I also still believe that we will see a Retina display on the iMac in 2013, a year from now. Not earlier.

Seems about right to me. The October rumor doesn't make sense to me because it gets in the way of the new iPhone release. Giving the iMac the front page spotlight at least one month in advance seems more likely, but definitely hoping you're right and gets released even earlier to take advantage of the back to school offer before that ends. Add to that Mountain Lion and the earnings call, I think we have a good time frame of when to expect the 2012 iMac with ML preloaded: between end of July to mid September.

Agree. I think the rMBP is a test product to see if it will catch. Personally I might bet that it does not do too well. The price point is super high. I liked it when Apple released updates to products at similar price points but with better hardware/software. They only succeeded at doing the latter, while the price did not stay the same.

You don't think it'll do well? I'd say the evidence so far is that the rMBP is doing extremely well. There's still a 3-4 week wait to get one if you order from the Apple Store online and most B&M Apple stores and retailers have very limited supplies (if they have stock at all). Newly-released MacBook Pros haven't seen this kind of delay in availability for as long as I can remember.

Hey more power to Apple if it succeeds via high sales for the rMBP. I just think the pricepoint is rediculous high for a laptop. 90% of all other laptops are priced below $500, indicating that most consumers want a lower end laptop to surf the web.

I extensevely use Adobe Adobe After effects and need the power of the rMBP, however I am going with the new 27" iMac becasue I need the larger screen. In summary, I am just saying that I would rather pay for a 27" iMac vs. a rMBP as they are comparable in price, but the larger screen is required for editing without going blind.

the ipad mini is rumored for october. I might be incorrect on this but Apple never combines iOS platforms with OS X platform releases right? I think ML is the most likely.

So, since the situation is already awful, can we dream of a redesign?
The rumors of retina iMac is totally absurd!
Apple will not silent refresh their main desktop computer with retina, and just add to the site something like :
New iMac now with retina....
Forget it, it will be in mega event, and not this year maybe in 2014.
Also most people don't need retina.
The hardware today can't run it smoothly enough.
And most impotent, even if retina will be available it will cost another 1000$ just for the basic model, something not all people will wiling to pay.
So they have to spec bump the old ones ( like they did with the laptop line)thus making the waiting to October from apple side totall mistory

Actually he was addressing the Mac Pro, basically stating that they were working on it for 2013. I don't think he specifically said anything about the iMac.

Maybe I didn't wrote it clear, sorry. So once again: spokesman said: "you need to wait for Pro and iMac, update will be in 2013" and then Cook said "It applies only to Pro" For me, thinking logically iMac will be in 2012.

Guys, we need to sum up facts:

In this month we have premiere of new OS and financial report. From last year we know, updated notebooks were introduced with such events.
What is more it is nonsense to release new OS and still keeping old hardware.
iMac retina? There is a report, from last week, that graphic cards can barely cope with resolution in rMBP. Do we have graphic card for desktop that can handle retina resolution on 21.5'' or 27'' display? I don't think so.

Secondly, iOS 6, new iPhone and iPad mini are predicted to be introduced this fall, probably October. They never mixed premiere of mobile and desktop devices!

I think that everything is saying: new ML, new iMac this month!

And 90% of world's computers run Windows, yet Apple is doing quite fine. Considering how the sales of cheap notebooks have flopped due to tablets, it seems that many consumers don't actually want notebooks at all. Your point does not make any sense. Do you think Apple will do better financially by becoming another Asus or Compaq?

There won't be a retina iMac. At least not this year. OS X's desktop pictures are 3,200 x 2,000. When you think about the resolution of a retina 27-inch iMac those pictures won't maximize the quality of such a display. Apple bumped the resolution of its desktop pictures last summer with Lion — well ahead of the retina MacBook Pro.

Oh and like others have said new iMacs later this month with the release of mountain lion. Probably new Mac mins too if we're lucky!

sure,
most of the rumours I read on macrumors, on release dates, of most product usually very accurate.
Also, I am sure that some of apple employee read this forum once in a while, and when they see that the tension of the "people" reach some boiling point , they release some leak...
Hahaha. POTY

I don't think you've been reading the rumours very well then or for too long.

i i highly highly doubt that apple will introduce a new screen in the same case in 2012 and to wait til 2013 to redesign it .

Haven't they done something similar to the iPad? Only a slightly modified case to accommodate a larger battery?

I REALLY don't understand why people keep saying 'no, it wouldn't make sense for Apple to delay until September/October. I think it will be July'.

Well, it didn't make SENSE for Apple not to release the iMac at WWDC - all parts were available and you can't exactly say that WWDC is software only - they've released an iMac there before and this year they released the new Retina MacBook.

So when people keep saying 'it wouldn't make business sense' it gets on my nerves because Apple have already confused everyone by delaying it past WWDC.

I'm still convinced it will be a July release, I don't think Retina is necessary on an iMac.

why not in wwdc? Because that would mean almost everything would be updated there. macbook pro, macbook air, and iMac. The only things left would be the pro and mini. I think they need something to supplement the mountain lion release just like last year.

Not so. We believed this to be the case assuming AMD GPU. With Nvidia, the 680M likely to be in the top 27" is just shipping now.

Well, tension here is just close the Lava point, but Fall Imac Rumors are just what is needed to make the Volcano erupting on itself!

Buy stock in KLEENEX!

Because of it doesn't come in July KLEENEX sales will go through the roof!

I hope so badly that Digitimes sources are ********. I rather have a specbumped iMac tomorrow than a breakthrough Retina iMac in October. Apple has simply spent too much time on this one....If Digitimes are correct, I don´t know what to say anymore. ....sick of waiting.

Funny how Tim Cook says this year they have amazing products coming, and we are in July and only 1 laptop has been released....guess apple thinks this year means the very end.

Why wouldn't they? They are apparently merging the OS's anyway. iOS X anyone?

Really hope os doesnt end up looking like ios. In my opinion iphone, ipod, and ipad are great but the ios got boring? Just my opinion.
