Adding my 0 cents
So it is confirmed, it5five, you have a Canadian flag, just as 345dilbert4life has, because of the 3rd letter of your username. I think that it is safe to say that Rule "1" has been solved. Now to figure out it's name.![]()
So the Rule P is clearly related to Posting, but it's still unclear how. Yesterday I only posted twice, yet my flag was light blue. Today, it took me three posts (in two minutes) to get it to change to light blue, going through several iterations.
Also note one of the clues above was that there was a glitch for people with high post counts. That could mean a total post count, a total for today, this week, etc.
Perhaps it has something to do with a total post count being divisible by 2, 3, 4, etc.?
I believe that you mean rule 'R'./QUOTE]
Yeah, my mistake.
And now my flag changed to red after post #6 of the day and 1474 overall.
That would explain why I'm the only one with the Maldives flag![]()
Yes, yes it would. I edit my previous guess of 62 possiblities to 94 total, and slightly edit the name "Rule 1 = 1+2=3 rd character in username"![]()
Hmm, if I'm not mistaken the number of flags would be as follows:
47 total keys that can be used in names
+ 47 for every key where option can be used to alter its character
+ 47 for every key where shift can be used to alter its character.
= 141
So my guess would be that there are 141 country flags total.
You are permitted to register at most once, with a single name and e-mail address. You can lose your membership for violation of Mac Forums rules. If your membership is terminated (banned) temporarily or permanently, you may not reregister.
Yes, but I don't think that MacRumors allows just any characters to be used in usernames, as it has the potential of messing with their sql databases.
I would assume that they would filter some of the nonstandard characters. Like ¡™£¢∞§¶•ªºœ∑´®†¥¨ˆøπ, but that is just my guess. We may have to create another test user (ala 345dilbert4life style lol) to try it out.
On the other hand, I don't think that they would filter out such characters as é í ñ and things like that, otherwise our spanish folk may be upset, thus increasing the possible characters from 92 to more like around 100.
Let's get going on it! Times a'wastin'!!!![]()
"Please note, your username can not use the following characters: # + < > [ ] | { } _ "
Ok, so sans 10 characters, that brings the flags down to 131, and then I forgot the space bar, so it is up to 132. I tried putting in the username exactly with the characters that you put in your post "¡™£¢∞§¶•ªºœ∑´®†¥¨ˆøπ" (without putting in an email address, so I knew it wouldn't register the account) and it did allow them. Thus, it seems as though my conclusions would be correct.
PWNED! Good job, and thanks for testing. lol
And those letters were just arbitrary key pressing with the option key held.
Once again an edit: 132 possible flags with name = 1+2=3 rd character in username.
Did I win Dr. Q?![]()
Yes, I did know that. And if anyone should win, it'd be me for getting the correct number of flags and testing it![]()

Just checked with a few other users and this is consistent.
Third letter of your names? What does that have to do with "1"?
A -![]()
B -![]()
...
D -![]()
E -![]()
K -![]()
L -![]()
N -![]()
O -![]()
...
S -![]()
T -![]()
...
V -![]()
...
I will continue to add to this once I finish it
Consistent with me too.Just checked with a few other users and this is consistent.
Don't forget case sensitivity as well as other characters. I would guess that not even every possible flag is being used. We will have to find a user that has each of the characters in the third position, which would be challenging, including the non-standard ones.![]()
How convenient.Rule R
icons: colored flags named after Mac models
Abstract concluded that the rule was not based on posts made that day or posts made in the last hour. Admission of guilt: we found a bug in this rule and fixed it this evening after reviewing Abstract's test results. Rule R wasn't always working for members with very high post counts! Please redo your tests if you want to study how the flag colors change.
