iPhone X What's this?

Hi all, got my iPhone XS the other day and I am loving it, but I was cleaning my phone last night and noticed this.

What exactly is it? I've never seen it before on any iPhone in the past, I thought the proximity sensor was the whole bar above the speaker, but this seems separate?

Not saying there's anything wrong with my phone, just curious. Coming from an iPhone 8, its just a little black dot, but I do understand there are more sensors in the X.

No, it's above the speaker.

I can’t test mine until I get home and can shine a bright LED at it.
Maybe a proximity sensor requires a transmitter and a sensor?

That's my case, I picked it up at the Apple store.

It's an otterbox keep it colourful, it has some paint splashes on it as part of the design haha.

I came from an iPhone 8, and its sensor was just a little dot. Thanks for letting me know.

Well after putting a bright light on my phone, I guess it is there. Most likely a sensor of sorts.

It's amazing how many sensors are in that little notch.

I think it is just part of the ambient light sensor.
