Isn't Android OS some kind of open source? Aren't there a plethora of cheap generic devices running Android OS? Looks like the majority go with Open Handset Alliance devices just to get Google's walled in garden.

What if there was an open source garden monitored by the community? Most major Linux distros are exactly that. I think that is what Mozilla phone is trying to do. Ubuntu phone too.

What's wrong with Apple?

And what Samsung is obviously not doing. Definitely not "the next big thing", in my opinion.

I agree Samsung sucks and offers nothing compelling at this time.

I have three of their older model phones and they are all junk. From what I can see they're locking the boot loader of their latest offerings too so everyone is stuck with bloat? No thanks.

Edit: well I just looked. Apparently I was wrong. There seems to be a large development community around the Galaxy Sx series. Hmm. Maybe I'll dig a little deeper and reconsider them. The S4 actually seemed like pretty good hardware for the price.

Which has sadness written all over it, in my opinion. Have fun unlocking your boot loader.
