The overriding desire to jailbreak for me comes from something ridiculously simple - custom SMS tones. I honestly can't live without them.

Once I JB, I inevitably end up using winterboard and others.

I am waiting (impatiently) for the first iP4 jailbreak to happen.

5gb of data is expensive in your country!

Lol you make it sound like he's from the south pole or something. I'm from canada to and yes Rogers and other carries are deadly overpriced here. This is due to lack of competition and canadians not standing up for better prices. This is how it works, all the carries sit together one every now and then and plan how to screw customers over. They don't try to compete because they don't have to they know we will pay sadly. But I got a crazy deal, which I bet they regret offering. I got a 6gb data plan for $30 dollars. That was the limited time offer they had when they launched the iPhone 3G in Canada. That's why my ipad has no data plan so i can rap that plan. Haha

Hope iPhone 4 jailbreak comes out before it comes to canada

Later

I remember back when I had a jailbroken 2G and itouch, everytime apple released a new update, I would need to reinstall every app and lose all my settings. It was not like a stock itouch that just backed everything up and restored everything in one shot.

I havent used either in a few years, has this been changed? or with every apple update, a new jailbreak and new everything is needed again?

Use AptBackUp
its a Cydia App where it saves all Cydia Apps onto your iPhone Backup, so if you updated to a firmware [Must be jailbreakable] you can simply backup and all your Cydia Apps should be there

I have never jailbroken my iPhone. Ever.

However, I'm highly considering it just for SMS tones.

Have a Mac? Just buy Ringer. (Jailbreak anyway though)

Personally.. themes. Used to be themes + ringtones, but now i use Ringer for those. Very easy to use, quick.. perfect.

Whats is your #1 reason to jailbreak your new iPhone 4?
maybe its winterboard? or maybe vWallpaper?, or maybe tethering?

For me, its iSteamy......lol jk maybe not
I would probably jailbreak it for winterboard
with the 512MB RAM, I wont have to worry of my iPhone 4 lagging :D

you?

iSteamy is kinda lame. It hasn't been updated in like two years and crashes all of the time. You can get a better experience by visiting spannkwire.com.

To be honest, the main reason I jailbreak the iPhone is to install Appsync. Just makes the iPhone a better experience.

The 2nd reason is PdaNet so I can avoid paying AT&T tethering charges since I already pay $30 a month for the data plan.

I would do it for alert tones and sms themes too. I HATE the default tones that comes with the iPhone. Especially the email and text alerts. But since my email alerts aren't popping up at all, I guess I won't need to worry about that one.

I did this with the 3G, and it was pretty fun. I also downloaded the themes for the lock/home screen and Text Msgs (iMilk = LOVE) with Cydia/Blackra1n and I loved it. If I could somehow get iMilk on Cydia for iP4 I will be very happy! I hate the default look on the text messages, with iMilk I get a gray striped background and the messages appear in a little strip of paper with the top left corner folded outwards. It was so cute. I actually miss using it.
