and the fact that they can get beta testers and get to see what happens when they allow a certain app to circulate without having to be worried about the media saying otherwise because "its illegal, Apple isnt allowing this, its just happening"

It's basically like a worry-free environment where Apple can see what developers are building, what the consumer likes and wants to get, and if something is really appealing, they can buy it from the developer

nobody really loses except those people who think it is morally wrong to jailbreak

Yes, very true. It's like free research for Apple. And I think I had morals once, but it's been way too long to remember what that was like.

I'm really confused? Isn't tethering built in the iphone so why would you use MyWi? and wouldn't they know you're tethering without paying the monthly subscription?

If I decide to jailbreak my iphone 4 it will be for custom sms tones and a better lockscreen.

You cheap bastard..

Because 99cents is way too much for this stuff..
...right?

I sure hope installous never works on the new iPhone....you guys make me sick

install0us is also my #1 reason to jailbreak... some things just aren't available in the Canadian iTunes store.

It is built in, but if you want to use it that way you have to go through official channels. Which means paying a lot more money every month.

But obviously your netwrok/carrier will be seeing that you are tethering from your phone anyways?

i would like a simple widget like little app like thing, with one click i can turn the phones 3g and edge radios on, off. Maybe the same for gps. Really hate going into the menu to do these actions.. its so annoying, settings, general, network, grrr so many clicks to do something i'd like to do with one click.
If theres anything like that in the jailbreak community i'll jump over.

they will see that you are using data
if you are still on the unlimited plan, you are paying for unlimited data
if you are on the 2gb plan, if you don't go over you aren't stealing anything because you are paying for that 2gb of data and also, if you go over, AT&T makes you pay a premium which suffices for trying to beat the system

the new tethering plans are such a rip off it makes me cringe that AT&T can try and deceive their customers that badly

sbsettings
you basically just swipe the top of your screen and a little pull down menu comes up
you get to customize the buttons you want to appear and there are 3g toggle, edge toggle, im sure there is some sort of gps one, and much more
for example i use rotation lock, vibrate-silent switch, brightness slider, and a button that lets me delete processes to save battery power
you can have up to 8 on that screen, and then a button that says more if you really need more than 8 buttons

Apparently not. Or they just don't care. People have been doing this for a while now.

What if AT&T and their evil ways let us tether to gauge how popular tethering would be and decided a high price point because they found out tethering is really a wanted feature.

What they should have done is allow tethering up to your cap then it's $x per GB beyond and if you have unlimited data charge $x for tethering per GB. That would give incentive for people to get off unlimited data and go with the 2GB cap and those who use a lot of data and tether would end up paying more for the bandwidth.

Why they see tethering as different from mobile data is beyond me. Just make us pay for the bandwidth we consume! DUH!

Im finding even less and less reasons to do so, but:

MyWi. Need tethering.
BiteSMS. While the speed of this phone will be CRAZY, creating messages from the lockscreen is amazing
Lockinfo. Enough Said.
Cydia. Does that count? Cant wait to see what people do with the new features.
WiFi Sync.
SBSETTINGS!

Is wifi syncing even close to being quick?

I think they know how popular it is. That's why they have capped plans and charge extra for tethering. They are not stupid, they know the reason why a small percentage is using so much of the bandwidth.

Installulous is my number one reason. Who doesn't love free apps?
My 3G is the second reason, it will allow you to use face time on 3G by tricking it into thinking your on wifi when your not. Great cydia app for 1.99!

Hope it works well but we still don't know if it would be decent on 3G.

You can also get the 3G unrestrictor which takes off the caps on the bandwidth, it makes a huge difference on video apps like MLB at bat 2010, figured it would do the same for video conferencing. Not that its gonna be perfect anyway. Hope it is though

MyFi
Try out paid apps that don't have demos to avoid waisting money
3Gunrestrictor

that's the main ones

Lockinfo.
Seriously, it's such a powerful/beautiful feature I'm amazed apple hasn't included this in an "official" release yet.
