What's your realistic, best case scenario Early 2010 MacBook Pro build?

enough BD or not BD

...just an OFFICIAL report from Intel about Arrandale (short version- http://www.notebookcheck.net/Newsentry.153+M5d2dd63c541.0.html)

In short:

1. Arrandale will not be introduced in 2010 Q1, but rather in H1, presumably Q2 or close to it.
2. It will have i7 ULV, i3 and i5 processors. i3 is the economic model, i7 ULV is likely to be to slow for MBP, so just i5 is likely to be used there. However, just two models of i5 will be initially produced (2.26 and 2.4GHz).

The likely implications are that MBP update will be in February at the earliest, maybe March or even April :(

An update going from 2.8/3.07 Penryn to 2.4 GHz Arrandale isn't going to be a good thing. And no sign of LV CPUs for the MacBook Air? I think this means another Penryn update (maybe Clarksfield on the high-end if we're lucky) in Q1 with the Arrandale update in Q3 or so. We may see the MacBook Pros top out at 3.07 GHz Penryn for two revisions just like the iMacs did.

Precisely.

Problem for me is the first revision of anything has so many problems normally I prefer to wait until they work the bugs out. When they totally update rather than upgrade it makes me nervous. But I am also not someone who needs to be on the cutting edge of tech for work so I bet for those people "new" can't come soon enough.

Well it's looking like the update won't have Arrandale (since it looks as if there is a delay) and it will just be a spec bump to a product line that has been solid. The only real problem that MBPs have had is the 8600 fiasco.

All Arrandale i7s are ULV, so these *might* be used in MBA.

Well, there is a slim chance, that Apple persuades Intel to give them some preproduction units for the MBP update. We'll see, we'll see...

For me, the GPU update is the most interesting topic. Hopefully, the new GPU will be able to run fallout 3 acceptably (9400m was nearly there). F3 and Diablo 3 are the games I have been waiting for 4 years at least... Probably the last game I have played was Diablo 2 :D

I would imagine the outcry for a Blu-ray player isn't as prominent as some would like due to the fact that many users have the option of downloading their 10-19 gig Blu-ray films; view them and then simply delete them off their hard drives afterwards.

There is, of course, the argument that the current state of broadband can't allow this; which is fallacious. North America isn't the rest of the world guys!

Europe and Asia are so far ahead of us in terms of broadband infrastructure that it isn't even funny. They pay $30-40ish for something like 50-100mb down and 10 mb up. With connections like those, they can easily eat through a 20 GB movie for breakfast.

(Cry)

My household, which is an hour or so drive from Sydney, Australia, does not even get ADSL 2, and so are limited to just 512kbps, unless we want to spend $80+ a month. On our present plan, a 20 GB download would take close to a month of solid downloading. No, North America is not the entire world, but Europe and Asia is not the rest of it either. Yes, Australia is probably the most internet-backward 1st world country, but still, for a large portion of the world, physical media is still pretty much the only choice, unless you spend an inordinate amount of money on your internet.

Sure does, i think the best we can hope for now is.

core 2 duo - ati 5000 series - mid February

and then later in the year of 2010 (September) i5 refresh across the line

no blueray
no lightpeak
no arrandale
no 3.0

Massive setbacks

I initially thought the Q1 refresh would include a 15" Macbook Pro with an

arrandale i7 (2.66ghz - dual core)
ati mobility - 4830/5650
SSD 512 gb

How did these massive delays occur when a month ago arrandale was still on track for a 2010 q1 release. (Weren't they originally delayed from 2009 q4? or was that the ATI mobo GPU's?)

I think the best thing that could happen is that apple gets arrandale i5 early from intel which is very unlikely.

Well, at least there will be some surprises this time around.

Sadly there's now the possibility of some pretty huge disappointments.. C2D and an HD 4000 card = no sale, I could have bought a PC laptop with those specs over a year ago.

so true, so true.

I hope apple realize that specs like that should not be in their "pro line".
