I might try to make some date pinwheels this week. During the Christmas season, I also love Welch cookies, large white cookies with currents in them. That's why I need grapes and kiwis to offset the naughtiness. :)

Just don't go to any Office Holiday parties: 70 staff members ill after Department of Health luncheon. ;)

Thread Ressurection

I spoke about lobsters in another thread recently bought at Costco, but they also seem to have food items not likely found at the local grocery store. Last time in there I noticed bags of mangos and plastic boxes (approx 7x7x6") of kiwis which holds quite a few (maybe 20) and was only $7. I've eaten kiwis as part of salads before and like them. In another move to appease my sweet tooth, and cut back on sweets, I decided to take a chance on them being a good snack food and hmm, there are. :) I was surprised to see these kiwis are a domestic product grown in California.

I've been eating kiwis since Dec. I got a fresh box of them from Costco, went home, sliced some up and a curious thing when I ate them. They burned my tongue a little. This has not happened before. I went on line and it says that they contain a cysteine protease enzyme, Actinidain, that acts to break down protean and may burn, but then I saw a blurb about eating them before they are completely ripe, and one about allergies. Anyone experience any of this? My best guest is that they were not completely ripe, but they tasted ok to me.

I like dates.

In my effort to get away from deserts, I recently purchased a 3.5 lb tub of dates to snack on, but I limit myself to about 5 of them.

Sounds like an allergy. I know someone who has that reaction to bananas.

What do you like to snack on between meals, during a movie, while studying, etc?

I'm not much of a "snacker", but I do enjoy my ice cream, plain chocolate being my all-time favourite flavour. I'll have the fancy ones though. Currently I'm working on a cherry ice cream with chocolate chunks in it.

Other than that, I tend to go for handfuls of almonds that we roast ourselves. We actually just fry them up in a frying pan, but whatever. They're fantastic, and healthy for you.

I'll also eat these small, individually wrapped milk chocolate squares that my mum received for Christmas. She received quite a bit, so I'm still working on those.

Oh, and bananas, apples, and plums. I'll pretty much eat any fruit.

snack ? more like pig out. i never snack if i like it.
