All these WhatsApp updates in recent weeks and months but no word of the years old announcement of full integration between Facebook Messenger and Instagram and WhatsApp.

Most of my contacts are on iPhone so we use iMessage but some of my extended family uses WhatsApp (which I hate) for a family group chat. I keep WhatsApp hidden away for occasional use. Would be nice to be able to delete it and just use Instagram Messenger which is the only Meta property I use.

Any update on IG/FB/WhatsApp integration?

Picture-in-Picture support is really well-designed in iOS. I use it all the time with Netflix. YouTube needs to get off their high horse and support it properly.

Instagram is super annoying to use, and FB Messenger just feels like a serious invasion of privacy, even if it's separated from Facebook in a way. The Business Suite app by Facebook is even more frustrating to use. They haven't been able to get notifications to work properly in years! I wish I could ditch all Meta stuff entirely, but too many people (in my circles) still use it as their primary means of communication.

Why use Whatsapp when there is Signal (which also has a desktop Signal app)?

In my country, WhatsApp has become integral for pretty much anything. Most businesses use WhatsApp for sales and customer support. Government bodies use WhatsApp for many public services as well. Many e-commerce now even use WhatsApp for OTP delivery. It’s the common denominator for chats between most people in many countries regardless of their platform of choice.

That’s my point.

I live in the UK and absolutely NO ONE I know uses iMessage, yet probably half or more of them have iPhones.
Same here. In Indonesia, all iPhone users use WhatsApp and nobody use iMessage. Apple not making iMessage cross platform is a missed opportunity.

YouTube PiP is better than Netflix (if you have Premium, which is a big if).

YouTube supports PiP and split screen, Netflix only does PiP, no split screen.

Why would someone want a green message instead of a blue message? Makes no sense whatsoever. Also, those that use iPhones often have Macs, and it is easy to use the Message App on the Mac.

I use Signal with Android or PC users, not Whatsapp, which seems to be for Facebook spying on users.

Those who use iPhones in my circles often don’t use Macs though and there’s the point. It’s not the same everywhere. WhatsApp is much more popular than Signal throughout my contacts and it’s difficult to use it when very few have it installed. WhatsApp is a very good messaging app, especially for group messages and it’s a lost battle insisting people switch when WhatsApp is so widely adopted.

Not sure what you mean by not wanting a green message and only blue? What does that offer as a benefit?

I use iMessage with my wife and close family and WhatsApp for just about everybody else due to more people out there on Android.

Whatsapp needs to fix the bug that broke the auto daily backup in iOS. It never backs up since last year.
I'm not sure. Mine is set to backup every week, and that works. Are you saying that it doesn't work when you set it to Daily backups? I just changed the setting and will know soon enough.

iPhone users don't want green messages, they want the equivalent of a blue message with every message they send. They also don't want to switch the whole time depending on the group that receives the message. So, most people stick to one message app.

I personally prefer iMessage and as my whole family is on iPhones, I use it all the time when communicating with family. However, any communication outside of my family is done using WhatsApp, as that is the only option I can use to reach everybody.

WhatsApp Messenger is rolling out picture-in-picture support in its latest app update, allowing users to continue their video call in a small window while doing something else on their iPhone.

Whatsapp-Feature.jpg

Up until now, if you needed to do something on your phone while on a WhatsApp video call, you had to swipe out of WhatsApp, which paused the video for the person you were speaking with.

Once the new support has rolled out to you, if you swipe out of a ‌video call it will automatically minimize into a picture-in-picture window that continues to be visible even while you access other apps, so you and the other person you're talking to can continue your conversation without the ‌iPhone‌ being otherwise unusable.

WhatsApp said in December that it was working on developing support for picture-in-picture to allow WhatsApp users to multitask and use other apps while remaining on a video call.

Introduced on iPhone with iOS 14, picture-in-picture works with apps that play video content, but when it comes to third-party apps, app developers have to implement support for the feature.
The latest v23.3.77 update also brings a couple of other notable improvements, including the ability to add captions when sending documents, and added support for longer group subjects and descriptions. WhatsApp says these features will roll out over the coming weeks.

I want to see a native Apple Silicon version of WhatsApp. I know that there is one being actively developed, but are there any ideas about when it will be available?

….and the “nobody uses it!” (US) versus “everyone uses it!” (Europe) debate…

More like "everyone uses it, got trapped into it and would like to use something else". Lots of people tried to move to Telegram. Governments tried to move to Signal. But in the end, it's still Whatsapp. Lots of people will only jump to another tool when Whatsapp is down for a prolonged period and will move back as soon as Whatsapp gets back. Due to privacy concerns I'd welcome a European block of Whatsapp.

This update deleted my ignorelist.

My ignorelist wan't touched. However, the upgrade caused my fans to start blowing like crazy. This was caused by the ShipIt process, whatever that is. Just quit the Whatsapp window, then killed the ShipIt process upon which Whatsapp immediately reopened and the ShipIt process was gone and (hurray) the fans went quiet again.

What?

Why use Whatsapp when there is Signal (which also has a desktop Signal app)?
Because no one else does? We, people on this forum, care about this kind of thing, but most "normal" people really don't. I could either use WhatsApp and message my friends, or use Signal and never talk to anyone. I'll choose the former for now.

I love watching Football... So, I ordered it. My only regret is that it's only 1080p. Why isn't it 4k? Apple, common! WRONG FORUM.

And I don’t know anyone in the UK who doesn’t use iMessage
Our experiences are anecdotal and not applicable to everyone.

iMessage was more popular in my circles a few years ago here in the UK but I know more and more people recently who have switched to Android. WhatsApp has always been popular for me though as it’s much better for group messaging, even amongst iPhone users I know. Different experiences though I suppose.
