Just got a recall notice about metal shavings detected in some cheese sold in local Pricechopper supermarkets. Guess it's the latest thing. For awhile there when I'd scan through recall notices on an iPhone app, it seemed pieces of blue or clear plastic or metal in hamburger were all the rage. I figured it was part of the steers' ear tags or something. I'm gonna just keep looking over my tofu before I dice it into the pan...

Ordered a set of soft boiled egg holders, 2 spoons, and most importantly an egg top shell cutter for $13 which will be delivered tomorrow.

Amazon betrayed me! Package was not delivered, and it was automatically returned as "damaged" (I never saw the package). Mr. Bezos shall incur in my wrath. I was already thinking about tasting my soft boiled eggs and having fun with the shell cutter...

Shoot! I was looking forward to a trustworthy review of that shell cutter. I even took a screenshot of your previous post about that purchase and had stuck it on my desktop. Hope the order turns around quickly and is resolved to your liking.

I had a package of grits end up returned (or probably just swept up and binned) once that I never saw after I had reordered staple goods. Package must have got caught wrong way in an automated conveyer system somehow, with grits then blasting their tiny grains all over the place; anyway the explanation provided by courier to shipper and to me was 'destroyed in transit, not deliverable'. Either that or somehow got dropped into water. Sounded like not much fun for whoever was working that line at the time.

Commiserations.

What material was all of this made from?

And, hm, how did that damage occur?

While I don't have such an elegant set (and I agree that the egg top shell cutter could be very nice), I do have some lovely wooden boiled egg cups (or holders), some of which were made in Russia (bought over a quarter of a century ago), and others from Croatia, from the time I observed three elections there in 2000.

In my eternal quest to regulate my life, I am mulling over the idea of consuming my printed newspapers only on Saturday, that is I collect them and then read them in order (I am also tempted to see what happens if I read them in reverse order and see how my perception changes).

However, as I was browsing the web to see if anyone else tried the experiment, which is a step forward from the slow news movement, I found a great piece on @LizKat favorite magazine, The New Yorker. It even mentions my favorite Cal Newport among other incredibly interesting opinions. I found the article so engaging that I am thinking of subscribing to the paper edition.

I think it’s all metal, but it never reached my house so I will never be sure about what happened. I saw on the amazon app that the item was two stops away from my house and then I got a “item returned” notification...

In common with @LizKat, this enquiring mind also years to know more about that egg shell cutter, and how it works in the real world. Thus, a review (from a credible source) shall be avidly devoured.

Spoons I have (lovely elegant small silver things) and the egg cup/soft boiled egg holders (wooden Russian or wooden Croatian) still do elegant duty, but I will admit that the sound of that egg shell cutter does intrigue me.

I sincerely hope that this package arrives safely, and in one piece, contents safe from damage or other forms of destruction.

All metal?

Spoons, (well, that much is obvious, except in that quaint Russian set I purchased almost three decades ago), egg cup/holders - metal also? - and the egg cutter, well, that, too, is fairly obvious.

Reviews eagerly anticipated and awaited when you receive them.

I will review it and post some pics.

@LizKat @Scepticalscribe the items arrived correctly. Content was as expected, five stainless steel items.

I cooked two eggs for about 5 minutes. The two holders are slightly bigger than what I expected. The eggs in the picture are large eggs. The slicer things fits perfectly

So, how does the shell opener works? First egg (on the right) did not go that well, I think I didn’t apply the opener correctly. However no damage was done.
The second one came off beautifully. Not a single piece of egg shell fell into the egg, and the opening was large enough for a spoon.

To conclude, was it worth the $15? Considering that I had to buy two cups, absolutely yes. It solves a first world problem for cheap. I plan to use it quite often as I love eggs.

Thanks for the update, review and feedback. Very much appreciated.

And I love eggs, too, (boiled, poached, scrambled, fried, in an omelette) especially, organic, free range, eggs.

If you put a caper on each of the eggs in the last picture, you'd have some really nice Googly Eyes.

Apart from the minor matter of optics, why should one have a caper on a boiled egg?

Capers on smoked salmon, yes, on salami, yes, on raclette and ham sandwiches, yes, and on a munificent cheeseboard, yes.....

But, on eggs......no, thank you.

No problem! I noticed that there is a reflection of me in the spoon on the right (first picture). Now I fear @AngerDanger enhancing it to discover my true identity...

What a wonderful video; it is a sort of poetic justice to see a predator chased and beaten and have to use its skills of speed and balance to escape.

I went back to the post in question to verify what you said; fascinating - I hadn't even spotted it.

Dominos or Pizza Hut?

Neither.
