Seeing that Apple's M.O. is to have an event on a Tuesday, that leaves the 10/22 release date to having an event on 10/19... already taken by Google.

Then for the 10/29 date, that would put them at having an event on 10/26... putting their quarterly earnings call right in the middle of that week, which is scheduled for 10/28. That would take away from their own spotlight, which would be foolish to do.

So that pushes us to November. 11/2 is Election day, so 11/9 would be the time outside of all of this, with 11/12 being a suitable release date.

And of course, this is all assuming that everything is going swimmingly with Monterrey... which it isn't.

I have been waiting so much for this!
I hope there'll be the m1x mac mini too, as I'd like to get a computer within a 2.5k price, and no way I could get a macbook pro with 64GB of ram at that price...
A machine with 64GB RAM from Apple in this time for 2.500 USD? Good luck!

They need to announce the new adult-sized iMac at some point
I’ll never understand why people choose to sit 2 feet from a computer monitor the size of a drive-in movie screen.

Maybe it’s because I grew up in the 90s and CRT monitors usually topped out at around 20”. Even 27” screens look giant to me.

This waiting is making me nuts. Need to upgrade my MBP 17" from 2010. More and more parts is getting broken.
Same here with my 15” from 2009! Still standing and a lot of replaced parts. Will not be possible to do that with the new ones…

I just opened the Apple Store app and it said that pre-order begins at 1pm. Huh? Have they released a silent update to something? Probably not a Mac though.

Last year Apple released the M1, 4 weeks after the A14, strange how it takes 1 year to develop the M1X from the M1.
Its now 4 weeks since the A15, where is my M2!

Well, I'm on a M'Pro 13" from 2013. It has preformed flawlessly, but it's getting long in the tooth for what I want to do. If the rumor-mill is correct, it will be a beautiful machine that will burn my pockets good. I almost fear for what it will cost.

In Sweden Apple has student campaigns on free AirPods when you buy a Mac or iPad until the 11th of October. That might mean that they will wait with the one-week-before invitations until that date, maybe hinting to a 19th of October event date.

product volume of 100k vs 10M ... slightly different challenge
Great point. This is similar to when people were screaming for Apple to bring OLED to the iPhone since Samsung already had it. The issue wasn't the technology but the supply chain, Apple required 5x as many displays as Samsung consumed or could make so they had to wait for the supply chain to catch up.

Don't get too bloody wound up. Apple is not only not immune to global supply chain issues, but is particularly vulnerable to them, given the tightness and lack of slack in their finely tuned pipeline. This is likely contributing to the M1X iMacs falling off the 2021 calendar, and the Apple Silicon Mac Pros - always the last to be addresses - probably going to blow past the 2022 two-year Apple Silicon rollout timeline.

"An updated and redesigned version of the larger 27-inch iMac will launch in 2022 rather than the fourth quarter of 2021, according to leaker Dylandkt. He claims that Apple does not want devices to compete for attention and that there have also been issues with product delays."

If the supply chain issues are severe evenough, they may forego an October event entirely, tho' I am sure they would loathe to, as they are powerfully incentivized to get new MacBook Pros on the market for the all-important Christmas 4th Quarter. I am sure they are a priority, and likely already designed and finalized, but they may not be able to actually deliver them.

Heavier Iron is likely still coming, but I think we gotta be patient.

I take issue with the use of “private jets” in the above article. That brings to mind a business jet. Apple is just using routine airfreight charters. Nothing fancy.

I saw that for the 16“ they actually are putting them on private passenger jets. One per seat with seatbelts and everything. No beverage service obviously. 64gb versions will be in first class. The exterior of the plane is printed with “Fastest laptops on the planet.”

Is Apple expected to offer the new MBP's for sale at the same time, or will WWDC just be an announcement of their future release? If it's the latter, then it will just be more waiting to see what the new chips can do.

I'm kind of in the camp that we'll see an M2 this fall. Rumors point to a MacBook Air redesign next fall, meaning if Apple doesn't refresh the silicon this fall, it will be 2 full years in-between silicon updates. A main reason they left Intel was due to the lacking silicon performance roadmap but also being unable to update ~ once a year. It would be a little ironic to not refresh the MacBook Air for 2 years.

The current M1 MBA is already an excellent value and plenty powerful for the target market so I don’t see the urgency of an update. The M2 is not being released this year. Other than FOMO, I’m unsure why users here are so intent on Apple providing annual updates to all of their computers.

Agreed the M1 is excellent. But we receive annual iPhone chip upgrades, so why not Macs? Intels lagging roadmap was part of the reason Apple started using their own silicon, so you’d think they would have updates at least every 12-18 months, even if minor.

Seeing that I'm on a 10-year old MBA and don't go the early crow on early adopting, I'm looking forward to this update.
