Don't get too excited. Knowing Apple, the products won't start shipping until mid to late Nov, then with high demand + a chip shortage, good luck!
And then there's the backup at all the shipping ports all around the US. Ain't NOTHING getting in or out fast. I say we don't see actual devices until 2022.

I know a lot of folks don't like the Touch Bar, but I really like and use it often. But, since it's something I like to use (cough cough 3D Touch) it's likely to go away. Anyone else a fan of the Touch Bar?
Yes. My view is that the TouchBar would have had a lot of fans had Apple made it much more customizable. I think Apple got spooked by some early bad reviews and never let it turn into what it was supposed to be.

That said, touch screens are simply expected now as an option. Apple can't keep ignoring them.

All of Apple's devices enter the US via air freight (I'm assuming you're referring to backups at maritime ports). I don't believe there are similar backlogs for entry of air freight into the US.

I have been waiting so much for this!
I hope there'll be the m1x mac mini too, as I'd like to get a computer within a 2.5k price, and no way I could get a macbook pro with 64GB of ram at that price...

If that's true, then I stand corrected. I was thinking that they might use maritime shipping for components or whole devices.

Aaah well, in a few years we'll all be printing everything, including the chips. Why not? 😁

At this point, my MacBook

In fairness, they may use maritime shipping for components for products assembled in the US (that’s the Mac Pros, not sure about anything else). I don’t have that level of knowledge. But their fully assembled products from China come via air freight. While years ago they used consolidators like UPS and FedEx more heavily and shipped direct from China (utilizing services like FedEx International Priority Direct Distribtion and the UPS equivalent), most stuff now comes in via air freight and then is distributed from warehouses in the US.

Heres a few articles:

It does look like they are starting to use maritime freight for some items like airpods though:

I take issue with the use of “private jets” in the above article. That brings to mind a business jet. Apple is just using routine airfreight charters. Nothing fancy.

Disgusting, ProMotion is more than ready for these M series Macs.
To your point:

1. If the iPad Pro has 120hz technology on top of a complex digitizer arrangement, then surely it is possibly to attain 120hz on a Mac.

2. Microsoft knocked it out of the park with the Surface Pro 8 hardware - especially regarding the display. Surely this is possible on a Mac?

I like it too! I use it with Better Touch Tool to script various actions in a lot of software

😮 That’s ancient. What is the OS version you are running?

I'm still on a mid-2011 13" MBA. it is completely unstable on High Sierra, but completely rock solid on Sierra.

That said, as far as a date for an event, it will either be on October 26th, or November 9th. I say those two days for two reasons:
  1. They are not wanting to share the spotlight with Google and their event. Plus isn't their earnings call around the same time?
  2. They will not have an event on November 2nd. That is election day in the US, and there will be some local elections going on that that will take up the news cycle for some places.
The biggest reason why it will be around the last of October or later, is because Monterrey is still in Beta. Apple tends to release new hardware with the latest OS on it, especially if it is the new year's iteration. My MBA was released the same day that Lion was released, and while Big Sur is available, that would mean that a fair amount of hardware (including the CPU) would have to have drivers for it backported to Big Sur, which isn't Apple's M.O.

And if I've heard reports here in this forum that there is still a lot of support broken in Monterrey (beta 9 was released today), Apple won't release new hardware without that OS, let alone fixes for that broken functionality, so let's pad a couple of weeks onto that.

Next week is out, the week of the 19th is out, so that puts either the last week of October or the 2nd week of November into play.

I wonder what Apple’s strategy for higher end GPU computing is going to be. Not games necessarily, just in general.
Indeed. I feel like their best bet is to ship M*X processors with AMD GPUs for the foreseeable future - otherwise they are either going to have to invest a ton of resources into niche GPUs, or risk totally losing the workstation graphics crew on Mac Pros.

Although Intel has held Apple back on CPUs, Apple has never really used the full potential of GPUs.

These are always shipped via air, not slow boats.

Exactly. All by air. Prime example: FlightAware's iPhone tracker:

One could also use this to track their Macs that are shipped directly from overseas.
