I'm in the market for a MacBook Air. I can save about $100 on Macmall compared to the Apple store due to the lack of sales tax from Macmall (even with the student discount on Apple's site). Is it worth waiting for the Back to School special? Do you think there's a chance that it will be >$100 value?

From what I have read here (based on other users experiences), It is usually easier to handle returns through Apple.

Try bhphotovideo.com as well. If you need Parallels Desktop, B & H can't be beat. Also, their AppleCare plans are $179 instead of the $249 Apple & MacMall charge.

I concur with this. After price comparing I bought my iMac from them for cheaper than the education price+tax at the Apple store. And getting Parallels Desktop for free was a nice bonus.

Anything is possible, but my bet is that whatever promo they offer is going to be equivalent or even less than what they offered last year ($100 iTunes card).

Keep in mind that Best Buy currently has the best deal on MacBook Airs (assuming you have a .edu account). Although most of the $100 student deduction goes towards sales tax, you still come out ahead of B&H/Adorama by at least 5 dollars.

Back to School promotion 2013

I been waiting to order the new :apple: MacBook Air 13" since they announced it at WWDC 2013. If they don't announce the Back to School promotion by July 1 (monday) I'm going on Amazon and buying it there without tax.

How is Best Buy the best deal on MBA's?

Tax is about $100, depending on what model you buy.

B&H is tax free for most states that also includes free software (Parallels) which is $60ish including tax.

So by ordering from B&H you're up by $160 vs Best Buy $100

aw, bhphoto for me so far is the same price of applestore+tax. Bhphoto has the free parallels 8 software(59.99) with it like you said, but im still curious as to what apple will offer. guess ill continue the wait...

B&H doesn't have the $100 off deal, unless they price match Best Buy.

Throwing in a bunch of free software doesn't necessarily make it a better deal (unless you were planning to purchase Parallels in the first place -- and keep in mind that you cannot legally sell an OEM).

Unless you happen to live in a city such as San Francisco where the sales tax is ~9%, Best Buy still comes out ahead. It's a short lead, but it's still there.

I purchased my 2013 MBA about a week ago from Best Buy and had them price match the apple student price of $1049. Went in yesterday with the $100 off coupon for having a .edu account and had them price adjust with another $100 off. Ended up paying $949+tax for the base model 13" MBA!

It's the 24th now and still no update :( maybe when I wake up!

I'm disappointed too. Last night around 0:00 am the Apple Store had some kind of glitch, i.e. the page layout went text-only. So I was thinking maybe they are putting up B2S promotion stuff. But no, nothing this morning. I'm starting to worry that there will be no B2S this year. :(

Wow what a great deal. If I didn't have a big gift card to use from my birthday I would totally do that!

I didn't know macmall had the 8gb ram models, that would've been my justification on getting from apple.

what did you say to get that 2nd 100 off?

the apple education match
the best buy student discount
and then what?

Well I don't know how useful or reliable this is but I went to a mac store today for a chat. The salesman knows that I have been holding out for a haswell rmbp for a few months but I am now desperate for a new computer and wanted to get a maxed out 15" model. He talked me out of it as he said I have waited this long and if I can postpone my purchase until the first couple of weeks of July it would be worth my while.

As for relevance to this thread I spoke to him about what you guys are discussing and he said that the same applies. Seems they are waiting on something. He is bound by non disclosures and all that and admitted to not knowing all the details but strongly advised me to wait.

One interesting thing he did mention was that here in oz the apple care protection is going to drop from its current $320 or whatever it is, down to about $150.

Look, this may be a load of rubbish, but then why would he talk me out of a sale?

Well you guys in Australia have different dates for BTS, so the only thing he could be talking about is a Haswell rMBP release.

Saying that, I'm surprised he even knows anything. The guys in blue (the so-called "geniuses") never know anything until the day.

Yeah but some times it pays to know the managers ;)

We were not talking about bts here. Although we currently are at the end of our financial year and companies are normally trying to sell off as much as possible - not talk you out of spending $4,000 on a new computer....

Yes, but as I mentioned in my original post, it's tax free for most states which is less $100ish

I would rather pay that short lead(10-20) and get the free Parallels, everyone has their own preference though!

I have been emailing with a manager at B&H. They will price match Apple's educational price but they will NOT honor the additional Best Buy $100 coupon.

I need to figure out what way would be the cheapest (if Apple offers the BTS promo)

I am thinking that buying directly from Apple Educational (as long as there is a BTS promo, assuming that they are offering a $100 iTunes giftcard) and then going through ShopDiscover and get an extra 5% cashback rebate.

Now if Apple does NOT offer the BTS promo since Best Buy you can't customize I have no choice but I can't buy it from them. It would be a little cheaper to buy from B&H because of the sales tax and free software.... COME ON APPLE!!!! MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT ALREADY!!!!

I was in BB the other day seeing if they had any 8GB models. They told me they could order a custom-spec'd one for me. Not sure if this is at all Best Buys, but might be worth a check.

Does apple normally start bts at 12 am pacific or something? How do they usually announce it?
