The promotion in Australia at the beginning of this year was an extension of the 2012 promotion in the US. If there is a promotion in the US this summer, Australia will see it in 2014.

Here's a possible leak for you all, though I don't see anything on the Apple website yet.

I just got an email from Western Computers, the local premium apple retail outlet (or whatever it's called - not a formal apple store, but one of the affiliated ones) in Oxford. The subject was 'Apple - Back to School Promotion with Western Computer', but the content of the email just said 'An error occurred while processing your request.' I've not made any request, so I think it must have been an accidental send by them, but sounds like something is - or was! - in the works.

I'll hold on another week or so, at any rate - fingers crossed!

Update: I've now received another email from them, with details! They (Westen Computers) are offering a Back to School Promotion of a £100 saving when when you buy a MacBook Pro, Microsoft Office, and 8GB memory stick and an STM Glove Case. The offer runs from 1st July - 30th August. Link here: http://www.western.co.uk/mailers/back-to-school-2013.aspx

HOWEVER, there's still no sign of anything on the Apple website, and while Western Computers use the same fonts, branding etc as apple, and even call it a 'Back to School Promotion', I think this is more likely their own deal to shift the remaining stock of MacBook Pros ahead of an update sometime later this year.

So... Who knows? Not sure what this means for one on the Apple Store (which is where I'll be buying my MBA, as the education discount in the UK is better online than in store, for some reason!).

There is still hope then! Patience is wearing thin now on waiting for this promotion!

@Acronym2013

What is the difference in price through online and in store? I'm going to be buying a MBA too, and was just wondering whether there is a difference between ordering it online than going in store?

Hoey, I found out the answer here:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1103022/

It seemed a bit complicated and contrived, so you're probably best reading that post itself, rather than me attempting to rehash it - but I think UK students basically get ~15% (or more?) off PLUS can get AppleCare for £50 instead of the usual £200 - but I think that's only guaranteed online, not in store. Like I said, the original post is probably the most reliable source!

If you are in a university you get 15% discount, which is the most you will get, education-wise.
If you are in a school, the discount is lower - I think its half that.

The Applecare is NOT £50.
If you purchase as a school student you need to buy Applecare, which is normal price + around 8% off.
If you purchase as a uni student and get the full 15% discount, 3 year hardware and labour Applecare is FREE. The extra £50 is needed if you want 3 years of phone technical support added to it.

Standard educational pricing can be online OR in store - its the same either way.
In order to purchase as a uni student and get the full 15%, you need to purchase from the campus behind the uni firewall, so its online only.

The online Applecare is ~£50 (depends on computer) when buying as a Uni student (under the HE agreement w/ 15% off). It gets you a further two years of phone support.

Standard on the HE products purchased (for computers) is, as said in the other post 3 years of parts etc and 1 year of Phone support.

That's what I said in my post above. The £50 AppleCare is needed if you want 3 full years of phone support. Otherwise 3 years parts and labour are included free.

So technically, if we are in our 14 day window, we can return out laptops & re-order and get the $100 card.

The big question is will Apple just honor the deal and not make us return them (Plus save them the shipping costs, and refurbed computers.) But they might make people actually do that to discourage people from getting the promo after the fact.

I am probably going to try to get the deal , but if they are going to make me go through the whole return re-order process (considering I got a BTO) I might just forget about it.

Also what does Apple consider your starting date?

The day its ordered, date its shipped, date you receive it?

Mine is BTO being shipped to the store....if they make me return it, I will pass. But I would like the credit.

Ugh, I said I was going to order my MBA today if the promotion hasn't started, but seeing as 9to5Mac is a legit source, I'll wait a tad longer.

So I bought a MBA last night, what are my choices now?

I bought my MacBook Air on the 22nd with my fathers education discount (he works at a university) if the promo launches tomorrow, what do I do?

If the BTS promotion starts when you're within 14 days of your return window, talk to Apple (either in store or over the phone) and tell them. Either they'll make you return it and buy a new one or just honour the deal and send you the gift card (or whatever they have this year).

In the past they've usually honoured the promotion if you were still within your return window because it's less work to just give you the gift card than to have you return it and buy it again two seconds later. As for the start date, I'm pretty sure the return period starts the day you receive it.

Will be curious to see how this plays out. I assume if you are within your 14 days they will allow you to get the credit, whatever it may be.

What if you bought from a thrid party retialer like b&h photo or mac mall will they give the 100.00 gift card or a discount ?

Does any one else think that the Fourth of July being in a couple days may have some effect on Apple starting a sale ?

What is this... I ordered my MBA on June 15th and got it delivered on June 24th. And when I check on Apple store website after logging onto my Apple ID, it says that my eligibility is until July 19th? Is this for real? How come? Is this too good to be true?

Where on the website can you check your eligibility? I ordered on June 22nd and received the computer yesterday (July 1st).
