I have the same rattling noise. I assumed it was a piece that had to do with the shake to shuffle feature.

Press your finger down on the sleep/wake button and shake the Iphone. It will mostly stop rattling. That's where the rattle comes from, things connected to the button. I don't know if it's good or bad, but that's where the rattle is. I'm guessing it's not a fatal flaw or it would have just failed outright.

Ding Ding Ding!!!! It is just the tolerance on the vibrate switch. Nothing to see here. Please move along...

just as the title reads if i shake my iphone i hear a rattling sound my iphone runs fine and as far as i can tell the accelerometer works too. but this mysterious ratlling sound exists

I have a solution: Don't shake it! Hey, the response was just hanging there....lol! Seriously, I'm sorry you're having problems. I'm not sure why it would do that, but it sounds like other might have given you a reason.

Exactly! I shook my phone after reading this thread. I scrutinized the screen for 40 mins after reading the yellow tinge thread. I checked for dust, uneven bevels, dead pixels, after
reading all the threads in question. Honestly, someone could post a thread reading:

Does your iphone attract small mammals?!

and I'd be peering out the window every 10 mins to see if squirrels were amassing on the front lawn. This place is great and all, but it's turning me into a figgin lunatic! HAHA!

All these people suggesting 'don't shake it' clearly do not use any of the 'shake to...' features embedded in 3.0 or Apps!!

My brand new 3G S does it. I think it is something to do with the vibrate/silencer switch. Why? Well if you shake it in 'normal mode' the rattling is very faint. I switched my phone to silent, and the rattling was a lot louder.

It is most certainly connected!

hey one of my old threads, the 3GS doesnt make that rattling noise
