Nothing past 5.3 will ever be released. It's usually x.1, x.2, and x.3. It wouldn't be the first time Apple hasn't gone past x.1 and skipped to the next release.

thanks for that! So it is probable to release ios 6 with the next iphone :)

I thought everyone was just wishful talking lol

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they did that. not sure what more they have for 5.x. Anything major would surely need a new release to justify it.

Mountain Lion and iOS 6 at WWDC and iPhone 5 this fall. My predictions...

I don't think that they will combine IOS6 and Mountain Lion at the same presentation. It is more likely that IOS6 and the iPhone 5 will be reveled at the same time.

That would mean a new iPhone would be released less than a year before the last. I don't see Apple moving off the 1 year update cycle by too much.

I'll just echo many others and say first week of October. It will ship with iOS 6 and feature 4G and be simply referred to as 'the new iPhone'. As for anything else, who knows. I hope for a larger screen.

So if they were to add something like widgets you reckon it will come out in iOS6?

I don't understand why they delaying the widgets, they already use it in their osx and have done for years.

I do hope for 1 thing though, they come out with two versions of the iphone, a 3.5 like the current and a 5" or 4.7". Just like the two - three different versions of laptops, imacs etc.

iPhone 4G? make sense because LTE would be a major driving force for the next iPhone. Also I don't think Apple will name it 5 or 6, maybe just follow what they did with "the new iPad."

iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S
iPhone 4G or the new iPhone

Why? They just released 5.1, they can release 5.2 during the summer and then 6.0 in the fall with the iPhone 5.

Nothing much was added in 5.1, so why would they wait for 5.2 to add better features when they can be added in 6.0 as a major upgrade?

Yeah, widgets are major enough to be included in an x.0 upgrade. I think they're trying to find the right way to implement widgets, so as to maintain battery life and device performance, the springboard specifically.

I am pretty sure they're naming it the new 'iPhone'.

2012 is where Apple is restarting and simplifying their lineups. Whether it was planned years ago or a coincidence, it makes sense to streamline and simplify all Apple products names post-Steve.

As much as I want it to be the summer, the fall release of the 4s made apples Q4 numbers skyrocket. They will most likely release it in the fall again to help the numbers for the final quarter of the year.

First off, it will not be named the iPhone5, I would bet on either iPhone6 for it being the 6th generation iPhone, and running iOS6, or just iPhone only, like the iPad, which is most likely.

Release date is 50/50 end of June or October, but not later than that. I could see Apple going back to June release, their first four releases were in June/July, and a boat load of customers will have their iPhone4 contracts up in the Summer, Apple does want them to go looking elsewhere, while waiting until October for the iPhone6, they may end up choosing the Galaxy S3 or Nokia-Windows phone during that time.

Or Apple could release it approx one year after the 4S release in mid October.

These threads are pure speculation, no one truly knows except the big shot Apple employees themselves. I would guess we should have a solid feel for the release date come end of May / early June.

Since we've got iPad 3 in the mail, let's start the guessing game on iPhone release date. When do you think it's going to come out? My bet is October, but I hope June, although with Mountain Lion coming out in summer, WWDC may be more like Mountain Lion event and maybe iOS 6. What do you think?

Why do you care if you Hate Apple ? Or, are you coming outta the closet ?? ;)

I think Apple might discontinue the iPhone.

This seems a foregone conclusion as it's been a huge failure on the market.

Meanwhile, McDonalds is discontinuing the "Hamburger Sandwich" experiment as it too has failed to gain any market traction whatsoever.

I seriously hope Apple keeps the original screen size. I hate the larger screens.

I'd like a larger screen very much, but not a larger phone. I'd like the see the screen use more of the available real estate on the upper surface of the device. But since the iPhone is destined to be discontinued anyway, as it's largely been a huge failure in the marketplace, I don't see a larger screen anytime soon.
