yeah. i am in a fix now. whether i should buy the first gen or not.

Apple helpfully sent me an email this morning reminding me of this:

https://www.macrumors.com/2016/01/05/apple-watch-sport-chinese-new-year/

They literally just released this configuration. They can't plan to release Apple Watch 2 so soon...

People saying "it only came out a year ago" don't have much of an argument, because, look at iPad 3 to iPad 4. iPhones every year. But on the other hand, surely an update like this (even though it's just packaging an existing product in with an existing band) resets the clock.

No parts leaks and no real rumors of possible features would suggest that a release is unlikely for March. Who knows though?

But there's nothing really special about that configuration. Anyone could have gotten that months ago by getting the Sport and purchasing the product red band separately.

gold pin.

if they'd just done the silver one, i'd agree with you. but something about changing the pin to match the gold one, makes it really rotten if they then replace it a month on.

Wouldn't surprise me because we get minor refresh with the iPhone every other year in the form of S-type update.

Apple put a lot of resources into marketing the Apple watch as a "watch" and fashion jewelry. If they stay true to form they should just leave the name as the Apple Watch. Distinguished by Sport, Edition and model year just like other watch companies do.

The moment they slap a number or letter on the name it falls into the gadget category. Apple Watch S sounds ridiculous as does Apple Watch 2.

Where did you see that?

"Update: I’ve now heard a bit more that suggests that Apple might ship a minor revision of the Apple Watch that includes a FaceTime camera and not much else — but still that it would not be a full “Watch 2.0” with casing changes and major improvements. Still no word on timing but that could explain the reports of a camera have been showing up. Like I said, tea leaves!"

I wasn't suggesting otherwise. All I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised if Apple does a redesign every other year as they do with the iPhone. But, yes, I agree with you.

Imo that will be a bad decision. If Apple adds a facetime camera to the first model then they wouldn't have a superior update for the AW2

I also don't know why "add a camera" seems to Apple's game plan for every product they release.

Adding a facetime camera on the Apple watch really doesn't make sense:

1.Holding the watch up in front of you for an extended period of time can get tiring resulting in a up the nose camera angle when you put your wrist down a little.
2. Why Facetime with a 1.5" screen when you have a 4.7"- 5.5" screen in your pocket?

So what? Apple manages to do just fine adding one major feature (Siri, TouchID, 3D Touch) to the iPhone and still sells an assload of them with very little changed. People who don't care for the new feature will continue to hold onto the AW1, no different from those who didn't care for Siri, etc.

So you think Apple Watch "S" instead AW 2 is a good idea for a total new product which is only a luxury item and never gonna have the same sale amount as an iPhone? I don't think so.

That's not what he's saying. He's saying that Apple could add only 1 feature to the new watch and people would still buy it. Those who currently have a watch may not if they are not interested in the new feature the new watch has to offer.

For example: If Apple Watch 2 only has GPS as a new feature I wouldn't care but some people in this forum would go for it because that is the feature they want the most.

I seriously doubt that. A camera would terribly kill what's already a battery life people are unhappy with.

Yeah but the rumor is that would add a camera on the same model... Why they dont call it AW 2 then? I don't see the point to do it on the first gen.

A camera would be my second-least favorite new feature, second only to a different strap connection. I don't believe the rumor one bit. Just another instance of the tech "press"* grasping at straws.

* I use the term "press" very loosely here. My dad's been in the newspaper business almost fifty years, and much of this so-called "journalism" is simple bull$hit. It's an insult to the profession, and I wish more of the public will realize as much.

Completely agree... I wouldn't care (or use) a facetime camera on my watch... :)

Why are members continuing to perpetuate the false notion that AW owners are unhappy with the battery life? The only people who claim this are non-AW owners or those who have no experience with it in the real world.

I never said I wasn't happy with it. I'm content with mine. I know people that own Apple watch's that want it to last a few days or a week though. Plus there are plenty of threads around saying similar. There are also people that, like me, and you it seems, are content or happy with the battery life. To claim it is a false notion is just plain stupid.
