I'm ready for an OS X jailbreak for iPhone 4. I hate having an iPhone without themes. Drives me crazy.

I'm praying every night for some good news on July 4th. I can't sell my 3GS until I'm able to JB iPhone 4.

Hoping that I'll be a part of you again someday"

Will MiWi work with iPhone 4, or will a rewrite be needed?

They've rewritten it to work with iOS4 but since they can't run it on an iPhone4, they probably don't know for sure.

It's funny... people say crap about stealing software, but no one says crap about mywi or pdanet... hmm.. interesting when something suits... Double standard anyone?

Exactly. People think using Pdanet or Mywi isn't stealing, even if they pay for the software. I think people are just ignorant, that and double standards of course.

I sold my 32GB 3GS on eBay for $355. My 32GB iPhone cost $360 incl. tax. So basically a push...which I was very pleased with. New iPhone 4 for $5 the way I see it.

But I am going through some severe withdrawals with an iPhone with no JB. Waiting patiently...but missing my themes and the tons of Cydia apps that I used.

The fact you two can't see the difference should tell you something, but it wont.

I pay for a required data package and use very little data each month. MyWi uses my required and paid each month data so I am not stealing anything. Besides, the amount of tethering I have ever done is very minimal.

AT&T is still getting the better of the deal (even if I used twice as much data a month).

Funny when people try to justify things.

Equating using your data plan with stealing money from a developer is the height of rationalization, only engaged in by the dregs of society.

Funny when people try to justify things.

How is that justifying anything. I pay $30 a month for data, use almost none a month, I have no option but all or none.

So if I use MyWi for 3 days while on vacation and still use less overall data than I used the month before, what is there to justify?

I pay my water bill each month, I can use it to water my lawn, wash my car, drink it or whatever. Same exact principal.

There you go justifying again! Relax just joking...all the power to you.

Well James, perhaps you could justify to us, why its ok for AT&T to charge large fees for tethering when many of us only need to tether a very small amount.

If I have a 2gb/month limit - surely using it on just the iPhone, makes no difference from using the same 2gb in the iPhone and whilst tethering. Why should AT&T charge $20/m extra just to have the ability to use my allowance (that I am already paying for) on and off the iPhone?

I'm actually not going to jailbreak my iP4. I would always use a theme for a few days and go back to the stock theme. Only way I'll jailbreak it is to unlock it in the future to sell for more to purchase an iP5 or whatever they're going to call the next iPhone. :apple:

I agree. Its not like you pay an extra 20 dollars and they let you tether with unlimited data. At&t is charging you to unlock a feature already built into the phone.

It's very simple, really. Piracy is illegal. MyWi (at most) violates AT&T's terms of service. It is completely legal.

Moral choices are always relative and subjective. We all have our points of inflection. I personally have no problem with MyWi, you do. We're not going to change each others' minds.

On another note, has anyone identified if MyWi actually does break AT&T's TOS? I assume it does, but don't want to read through 50 pages of legalese if someone has already done it.

There aren't 50 pages of legalese, it's all here ---> Click Here.

The pertinent text is,

Furthermore, plans (unless specifically designated for tethering usage) cannot be used for any applications that tether the device (through use of, including without limitation, connection kits, other phone/smartphone to computer accessories, BLUETOOTH® or any other wireless technology) to Personal Computers (including without limitation, laptops), or other equipment for any purpose. Accordingly, AT&T reserves the right to (i) deny, disconnect, modify and/or terminate Service, without notice, to anyone it believes is using the Service in any manner prohibited or whose usage adversely impacts its wireless network or service levels or hinders access to its wireless network, including without limitation, after a significant period of inactivity or after sessions of excessive usage and (ii) otherwise protect its wireless network from harm, compromised capacity or degradation in performance, which may impact legitimate data flows.

I guess it depends on what you think is stealing. AT&T may have the restriction in their TOS, but whether that is a legal inclusion would be up to a court to decide. Just because it's in their TOS doesn't make it legal. And using MyFi or PDAnet to tether doesn't automatically make it illegal, either. They could put in their TOS that you cannot call phone sex sites, but that would be a violation of your 1st Amendment right and could not be enforceable. If I pay for data, am I stealing just because I'm using this data tethered to another device? Or is AT&T stealing from me by charging me a fee for data and then charging me again for this same data? What difference does it make whether the same data is appearing on a small iPhone screen or a larger laptop screen? It's the same data.

AT&T is double charging for the same data by charging a separate tethering fee. If AT&T wants to limit data plans and charge for data used, that's fine. If they fear that tethering will overload their system, then limit data. It's data usage that will overload their system, not tethering. True that tethering will probably result in increased data usage, but not in all cases. If they want to charge high fees for high data use, that's fine, too. But to charge me twice for the same data - that's theft, IMO.

Long live MyFi & PDAnet.

This is pretty ridiculous on AT&T's part. Much like the poster above said with the water, why should they care whether or not my 2gig comes from tethering or not.

This really is like the water company saying you can use your water to wash your face and your dishes but not your clothes. 2GB of data is 2GB of data, whether it comes from normal iPhone usage or tethering.

The fact that AT&T has implemented such a policy makes me want to jailbreak my phone and suck up 10 gig worth of data (on my unlimited) just to spite them. Heck, if that means I need to just delete and reinstall a large app as many times as possible, so be it.

The only reason AT&T even cares about tethering is because it gives them an additional revenue source for the 85-90% of iPhone users in the US who are not jailbroken.

Cash is king !

It makes perfect sense to ATT, they charge for tethering because they can. it's all just bits on the network whether it starts and ends on a phone, a laptop or a desktop. They know iPhone tethering will take sales away from their aircard sales and they don't want that to happen.
