I would think anywhere between 1-4 months.

Soonest: Next month

Latest: February

still waiting though.. i really hope before xmas they will release for an update. for the SB for next year i think apple would release after a few months though..

Okay so the new macbook Pros are coming out soon.

But now whats on my mind is if they are going to do a Physical change to its looks.

Slimmer, lighter, powerful (of course), longer battery (of course), better quality keyboards (made out of aluminum)...Liquid Metal perhaps?

Or is this going to just be a graphics update/ longer battery type deal?

Almost certainly not a different design, this one is barely two years old, and they have just updated everything to match it. Not slimmer or lighter, the components are already packed as tight as they can make them at this point. Only way for that is to start using ULV components, thus less powerful. Longer battery, maybe, it's pretty ridiculous as is, especially for the lack of bulge on the bottom that is necessary to get reasonable battery life on windows machines. Personally, I love the keyboard now, I doubt they will change it, and if they do, it will use plastic keys like every other keyboard does.

I wouldn't count a new design out so fast. I lot of people thought the last revision would bring in new 16:9 MBPs, which would definitely count as a new redesign, and would definitely effect size and weight.

Seeing as how the iMac and the cinema display have made that transitiont to 16x9, I would be willing to bet the Macbooks will follow suit this next update.

That is possible, although I would be fairly unhappy about that.

It's absolutely inevitable. The cinema display, which is a "pro" product went 16x9.

It's cheaper to produce, and Apple is all about uniformity. It's just a matter of time.

Edit: Don't forget also: Apple discontinued the 24" 16x10 ACD. The Macbook lineup now has a umatching aspect ratio to the new ACD, which was built primarily for Macbooks in the first place.

I'm sure it is, I just don't know when we will see it. Got to be pretty soon, seeing as everyone is using 16:9 now. Seems kinda counterproductive for computers in my opinion.

By the way, that image I posted below was nothing more than an artistic rendition (a poor one at that) of what I would like to specs to look like. Faster i7 processors (Sandy Bridge) with RAM capacity of 16GB (8GB modules) of 1333MHz RAM. We will be running 10.6.5 by then, no doubt.

Peace.

When I roll my DM voodoo dice they tell me 10.7, third month, decade

whoops wrong question, I'll try again

voodoo dice replies: "see that blood smear? That's the last guy's answer, now go away"

hopefully they will upgrade the video cards as well

it will be ridiculous if they keep using the 3XXM when Nvidia has already upgraded it to 4XXM

apples design team has perfected the mbp to there likings, you proabbly wont see a design change till the next few updates

but the cpu and gpu should get upgraded :D

October 20th Apple media event, see macrumors.com main page TODAY for more information:

https://www.macrumors.com

Apple will be talking about OS X 10.7 "Lion" and maybe introducing some new notebooks at the event. This could likely be the MacBook Pro update we are looking for.

I'm holding off on any MacBook Pro purchase until this event. I wouldn't be worth it to buy now if they are releasing faster ones in one week's time.

I'm not sure. The ACDs and the iMacs have much, much larger screens than the notebooks. If you shave off vertical space, it's going to be very noticeable at 15" when it maybe isn't nearly as noticeable at 27". I don't think the difference between a 24" screen at 16:10 and a 27" screen at 16:9 is all that noticeable, given the enormous resolutions you're working with. And, for panel acquisition, at those sizes it makes sense to go after 16:9 panels because they're the same panels used in HDTVs.

But the difference between a 15" screen at 16:10 and a 15" screen at 16:9 would be substantial, particularly given the resolution options that Apple currently offers. Plus, they'd have to reduce the footprint of the notebook itself, which would mean modifying the keyboard arrangement and the trackpad, something that would require even more effort for the 13" line. The 17" model could probably transition fairly easily.

And let's not forget, neither the iPad nor the iPhone support 16:9 ratios and likely never will. As long as 16:10 panels are more common at the 13"-17" range, then I think Apple will stick with 16:10 because, like you said, it's all about cost. The 17" could probably go either way. I don't think there's much panel production in that space anyway--just the niche high-end notebook user. It's too small for a TV, too large for most notebook users, and I'm sure the PC monitor market is in substantial decline (and where it's not, the movement has been upward into the 21.5"+ range).

The latest i7 with at least 8GB of RAM, and a decent sized SSD can easily cost over $3,000. That is what I am hoping for my next purchase.

This is true,,,

I'm looking for the same set-up but going to get 3rd party RAM and SSD (once the price drops) to save me spending the crazy prices that apple charge for their extra's .. will cost me £2300 with a backpack and Apple Care .. :)
