by the way, i still find it ironic that the problem they hope to fix prevents you from doing so. Apple expects us to download 10mb update files when we can barely download 10kb html files sometimes.

Have you ever tried connecting directly to your router by cable?? That should help out with the downloads. Just a thought.

That update didn't help. I'm pissed.

I went to the Apple store, and the Genius said it's the logic board (since it happens only when my MagSafe is removed).

So they ordered one, and it's going to be replaced this week.

BUT, I know it's not a logic board problem it's a software problem. I know this because my internet was perfect in 10.5.1

I even got my ISP to send me a new wireless modem, which I got today (another 2wire), and I'm still experiencing the same issue.

Isn't it possible to downgrade to 10.5.1? Try doing that and then upgrade once Apple corrects the issue(s).

I am having my own set of problems with 10.5.2 which includes HEAT and fan noise. I cannot watch a youtube (or any other streaming video) clip now without the CPU skyrocketing into the 170's with fan noise to follow. It used to be completely silent ALL of the time. I couldn't get Apple to explain to me why this happens.

And just like that, its gone... Apple, will this be another "freezing iMac" repair all over again?!?!?

Did they already take it off?? I have my software update icon in the dock waiting for me to install it, but I am holding off until I hear something good about it.

Yeah if I do an archive and install, but I don't really want to cause I like the new features (removing transparency in menu bar, and the stacks).

Is there anyway to get the 10.5.1 Install File for Airport? I wish there was an option when updating like this...

Full Update 10.5.2, or custom install the new features, and it gives you a list and you check what you want.

Having the same problem as everyone else in this thread--just posting to document yet another disappointed Mac user. Hopefully, we will be heard!

Using a brand new MBP and a Quest wireless router (non-AEBS). Update released today didn't help. With such an old problem, the only solution I can see in the near future is moving to an AEBS or TimeCapsule... if you can't beat them, unfortunately, you will have to join them (to keep my sanity). :(

... an AEBS has solved the problem, right?

if i archive and install, will i have to reinstall all my applications and will i loosr all my documents?

i posted a thread that said this before i was directed here:

it seems as though my airport is losing connectivity sporadicly while im browsing, i will get pages that take forever to load, as in 10 seconds even. i am on broadband and everything was fine before. sometimes even, i am getting a roadrunner message when i got to a page that says the site im going to is not available. but if i go to my pc it is def there. it even gives me this message with google.

ill literally click on a link then firefox will say "looking up .....com" at the bottom and it takes a while to load. if i open safari right then, it will also take a while to load the page. it usually blazes. i tested it at someone elses house on their wifi and it did the same thing. i have not tried the ethernet port, but i am fairly certain it is related to the airport, but it also my be some kind of dns issue on my mac. not sure.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

this issue is blowing my mind. i am a pc technician, fairly new to macs and i am trained in networking.

i also have mail checkers on my desktop. every so often, in relation to this issue, they will show that i am not connected to the internet. but then in an instant they will be connected. i think this is also the time when i get the "looking up" message when i am browsing.

THIS ISSUE HAS STOPPED!?!?!?!

last night after i posted that message, i verifid permissions, which seemed to do nothing. i then ran Onyx and cleaned everything possible. i then shut my mac completely down (which i hardly do) and left it down for the night.

when i got on it today it was not doing it. not sure if i fixed it. not sure if it will come back. not sure wtf is going on. thats all i know. if i get any more updates ill give them.

Thanks Dedpoet. I went back to 10.5.1 because I just couldn't figure it out. I do believe that I was having the issue only when I was connected to battery.

If I plugged in and rebooted my computer, I could stay connected for hours with not a single drop out.

So I went back to 10.5.1. Until I hear a definite solution I'm not going back to 10.5.2...

well, if this issue comes back or progresses im going to revert back to 10.5.1 as well. i absolutely LOVE apple and my mac. i hope this issue is fixed soon and i am faithful it will be.

same problem here,
it's a odd feeling to see that so many people are complaing about this and apple is deleting threads about this in their own forum and that the applecare hotline tells me that they havnt heard about such a problem yet :(
that's not the right way to deal with problems.

***Update***

well i thought it was fixed but it isnt. now it seems that i am catching on that it seems to start this when the computer has been in standby for a while. sucks too cause i have not backed anything up because i dont have an external drive yet to use time machine. im not sure if i can revert back to 10.5.1 without having used time machine.

this is def starting to annoy me....esp since i cannot figure it out. god i hope someone finds a fix for this soon.

i see a similar problem when the pages would just not load, but i found that it was only when using firefox, if i immediately open safari, it loads the same pages, while firefox just sits there even after repeated reload, etc. I am using Time Capsule since it came out, and a linksys wrt54g before that, the problem still the same as before, only in firefox. Even Camino seems to work when firefox stops.

How come its fine if I connect through ethernet?

Because you're plugged in. I've seen numerous posts on this forum but mainly apple's discussion board with users having their wireless connection screwed by 10.5.2. Many of them have 2wire routers...

I Finally Fixed It!!!

ok my issue (above) was a bit different than most people i think. however, i would urge those that are completely dropping signal to go to apple.com and get the combo update with .1 and .2 together. that may fix it.

as i had suspected, my issue was related to some kind of dns translation problem. the fix for this was simple.

go to network prefs/advanced/dns and add this in the dns server box:
208.67.222.222
in the search domain box add this: 208.67.220.220

these are open dns servers. this has fixed my issue and i am back to smoking fast internet. i hope to god this helps some people.

sounds promising.

DNS has always been a possible cause of all this. At the moment have we all got the standard 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1?

I was using 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100 (copied them over from my router's config page) but dedpoet777's idea of using open DNS servers sounds interesting, wish I still had my MBP so I could try that theory out ... ;)

I've got the same problem. Connecting on Be's modem(Speedtouch 585).

It keeps disconnecting. Changed modems, same thing. Since the 10.5.2 update.

And as i posted in other threads here is a total of the problems i have with the update:
1) Finder (spinning wheel) -> crashes
2) Choppy video playback with files 720p and 1080p(unviewable as fps 7-14).
3) Disconnects.

Now im not one to go back on an update. But how do i do that?

Im contacting apple when i have the time directly, via phone and/or email.

If anyone else is up to it. Please do so.

:)

just updated to 5.3.1 hopefully it fixes the wireless at least.

do you just have 208.67.222.222 as the only DNS server? Or just add it to the list?

adding it to the list doesn't help i don't think. will try having only 208.x.x.x as the DNS...
