ignore that last comment.

Adding it to the list of others looks good. Pretty solid connection right now, even when the black bar (and my heart) drops and the transmit rate reads 1 the connection is still strong (it's as if the OpenDNS server kicks in when the other one drops out)

You listening to this one Apple? Patch this and claim all the credit if you like

Will I Never Sleep Again

I've had to become an insomniac. Why? Because ever since upgrading to 10.5 whenever I awake my iMac from sleep it will not reconnect to my wireless network. All of my other computers (iBooks, PCs, Nokia e61i, eMac) can sleep and reconnect fine. I have to shutdown. Please help ... I need sleep! :) :(

yeh i don't think it helps unfortunately - it seems to be aimed at the AEBS and AirDisk troubles.

sounds promising.

DNS has always been a possible cause of all this. At the moment have we all got the standard 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1?

how it works is, your default dns server will be your routers ip address. from there it gets kicked to the wan ip of your modem where your isp translates the domain names of whatever address youre typing. im not sure where it is getting screwed up, but it seems as though there may be a hardware issue between leopard and routers or something. it may even be getting screwed up between the translation between leopard and the isp.

nonetheless, using the open dns servers will help the translation issues because it will use whichever translates faster. im just glad to have it fixed because that was driving me nuts. plus being a technician, not being able to fix things drives me even more nuts.

Please God please ...

If in 24 hours your connection is still running well and people like fluidedge and all the others with problems can also confirm the reliability then this could very well be a universal solution. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though as every time a "breakthrough" occurs in this thread it's normally shot down pretty quickly by someone's connection dropping. But please let this be the one ... ;)

Speaking of which where's Mlobo01? I'd love to hear what he has to say about all this considering the number of posts he's written here and the countless research and "experiments" he's performed. I've always thought of him as the little Professor documenting his work for all to see in this thread! :D

im just hoping my issue wasnt isolated, and that it somehow ties to all the others issues. my connection has held now for 12 hours strong...i got every finger i have crossed (so does my girlfriend)

haven't been using the internet much in the last couple of days but when i have it's been solid.

Not going to comment further in case i jinx it.

Got a new Belkin N Wireless Router ($75 at Staples) and all is well with my network now. Faster too. I needed a new router.

so enough with all the guess . . . anyone got a solution as to the problem?

my connection will be good for days and then suddenly it starts sucking and knocks me off.

help! i'm tired of this!

Funny,

My Macbook has a Rock-Solid Wireless Signal (Mac OS X 10.5.2 with A.E.B.S [with 802.11n] )

It has a more stable signal than with Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger"

A.E.B.S = Airport Extreme Base Station

Rock-Solid Wireless Signal = 4 (Full) Bars of Wireless Signal

another piece of info

Hey. I have read this thread and I do have the same problem with the wireless connection of my MacBook (2.2GHz bought in November 07). The timing of the problem is different from other people though.

Most people seem to have to problem before an upgrade to 10.5.2-- some got fixed after the update, some still have problem. Other didnt have the problem before 10.5.2 but have the problem after the update. Mine is different...

I never had wireless connection problem since I bought my MacBook in November last year with Leopard pre-installed. The signal was always strong with 4 bars on the menu. One day, I have a friend staying at my place and he hooked up his laptop to my wireless router (and he didnt have any problem); when I connected my MacBook later while he was still online, I experienced the signal dropout which never happened to my MacBook before. After that day, even when I am the only one to connect to the router, I always have the connection problem (weak signal and periodic dropout).

Note that the symptom started in early January so my MacBook was ok with 10.5.1 for two months, and the problem was not from upgrading to 10.5.2.

Is it possible that connecting two machine to the router at the time somehow screwed up my wireless setting or priority?? I have no idea about this but now my friend is a scapegoat for my bad wireless connection now because the timing that I started to get this problem suggests so...

Just a piece of info, in case some people here have an opinion. Thanks!

I forgot to add that, upgrading to 10.5.2 didnt solve the problem for me. I still have the problem.

it's gone again - i swear my Mac has artificial intelligence.

Right i think that leaves me with an archive and install. :(

If that doesn't work i'm gonna throw a serious wobbly at the Apple store this week.

Right Archive and Install hasn't worked.

That only leaves me with a full on Erase and Install.

Hopefully see you on the other side, so long and thanks for all the fish...

right i'm back - quite quick and straightforward to be honest.

However - Once i had set up the first thing i do is start surfing and - boom - dropouts.

ON A FRESH INSTALL WITH 10.5.1

what now? What are the chances of me having a dodgy airport card installed in my Mac Pro? If it was dodgy would that account for it sometimes being ok (full strength) and most of the time "transmit rate =1"??

Bad Apples

If that doesn't work i'm gonna throw a serious wobbly at the Apple store this week.

what now?

Mate, I think enough's enough and it's time for you to get down to the Apple store and "throw that wobbly" you were talking about! :D

Love to see what happens and whether any of the Mac Geniuses can you help you out. By the way, have you ever contacted AppleCare about your problem and if so what did they say?

lol i know i probably should but the mac pro is a heavy box and i can't really be bothered to lug it all the way to bluewater. I've already returned 2 iMacs with dodgy screens. I'm fed up with returning products to Apple. If it was a laptop i'd have gone in by now.

The one last lifeline (to test if it is a dodgy Airport Card) is to install Tiger. Leopard is a nice OS, but so far it hasn't really offered me anything Tiger didn't. I don't really use Time Machine, stacks or spaces. And i'd be happy with Tiger for a bit longer, it's still a solid OS.

If 10.5.3 comes out and everyone starts saying their problems are fixed then i'll go back to Leopard. But i'm afraid it's back to Tiger for me.

Anyone know when 10.5.3 is due?

If Airport drops out in Tiger however, then i'll really loose it and go into an Apple Store.

just had a thought though - i need bootcamp. Thats only available on Leopard now isn't it :(

Guess i might just have to sit and suffer. It's not absolutely crippling to me. In fact not having a solid internet connection means i spend more time working and less time posting on here!

Has 10.5.3 been seeded to developers yet?

well i'm sorry to say this is probably going to be my last post in this thread.

I've tried everything. EVERYTHING. Even a total Erase and Install and still the problem persists.

I have replaced the router and checked the wiring on my airport card.

I can do nothing else. This is solely a problem with Apples operating system interacting with my Mac Pro. Quite why not everyone is affected i do not know.

So as of tonight i'm switching off my Airport for the last time and moving my Mac Pro upstairs to be within range of the router so i can setup a solid wired connection.

I shall wait in anticipation of 10.5.3 or any Airport updates, and also be reading this thread from time to time in case anyone comes up with a patch or solution that everybody finds solves the Wireless problem.

I just want to say a huge thanks to everyone that has tried to help me with this problem. I hope you all have more luck than me! I've spent too much time on this problem, i have to give it up now and get on with some bloody work!

Good luck to you all!
