Did the airport update from today fix people's issues with connection drops??

didn't fix mine.

I have an intel imac wired to a netgear dg834g router. I wirelessly connect to an appletv and an intel macbook ( not at the same time for test purposes ).

I cannot stream SD video to the macbook without the stream stuttering every 20 seconds. The Apple TV does not stutter or breakup but is slow to start playback of videos and respond to pause or fast froward commands.

I had no issues with tiger.

This is ridiculous, I'm now laying ethernet cable all over the house and spending the day drilling holes, because Apple can't get their finger out and do something about an obvious problem.

All machines are leopard with all latest updates, netgear firmware is up to date, working on g only only with WPA encryption.

It worked, updated to 10.5.2 and downloaded the update. Not a single drop for 2-3 hours. Awesome!

I'm still having an issue with my router though in g/b mode. I'll post about that in a diff thread.

i'll wait a bit longer before we call this issue fixed. 2-3 hours is good but it really needs to be 2-3 weeks before i'm convinced.

ok so again i did a hard reset. set it up again. wireless N only 5 ghz. no password, but i usually put a pass on. everything looked great. i go up to the toolbar at the top and turn airport off. turn it back on and it's gone again. only my neighbors shows up. so i graphed it and this is what comes up...

mine is the Wireless N Network.

and this is what my ap utility says...

Didn't fix mine. Try downloading a large file and the connection just dies. Ugh! What is going on here?

it's called AP grapher.

so i changed the name of my network to something really simple. no luck. then i hooked up an airport express instead of the extreme. no luck. but for some reason my card picks up my neighbors wifi. just not my extreme or express. something is wrong!!!1

The update works for me, but only if I change my router to be 5 GHz (N only). I used to get at most 65 transmit rate (which came briefly and then dropped to 1). Now I get 243 when I am near the router and 160-220 when I am in a next room.

I know this has been mentioned before, but disabling B&G access and only allowing Wireless G in my Airport Express router has kept me without drops for the last 3 hours. I also enabled robust interference but know that interference was not the problem. I'll see how long my connection holds :)

Aloha everyone,

I first experienced this issue two days ago, and it also defied my understanding of wireless networking. I was a bit reticent to blame the OS, so therefore looked in other areas. When that failed, I looked at the entries in my keychain. Go to /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access and see what, if any, entries relate to your wireless LAN. In my case, there were two. I simply deleted both of them and restarted my MacBook Pro. After the restart, everything was gravy! I don't know how long this "solution" will last, but at least for now I'm good to go.

EDIT: For a bit of explanation, I noticed that the connection timed out when my router attempted to authenticate (I'm using WPA Personal) my MacBook Pro's credentials. That's why I looked at my Keychain entries. This may also work for everyone else - I certainly hope so.

Just to confirm. Setting up my router to only use Wireless G connections seems to have done the trick. Been downloading since my last post without one problem.

i'm long enough in the tooth with this problem to know that a few hours is not confirmation of a fixed problem. Like i said, if people find 2-3 weeks later they're Ok then i'm happy.

It doesn't really matter with me anymore i've gone to a wired connection. But i hope you all have more success

well i just downloaded that program so that can't be it. i have had this problem for a few months now.

My black MacBook is fine at home, fine at most of the places I go except the one coffeeshop I visit most. It will read connected but it will not connect. If it does fully connect, it will say connected in the advanced functions. If it is 'connected' but not connecting, it usually says "self initiated IP" but is not connected to the internet. Usually it takes several attempts of turning off AirPort and back on before the network may connect.
I have asked several others there with MacBooks, both black and white and most say they connect. Some have some difficulty sometimes but most say they connect. I have an HP laptop that connects there toot sweet as soon as it is turned on. Their network is open but if I try diagnostics it says it needs the WEP password and there is none. Using it at home on my WEP network it's fine. I have a desktop at home so only use it for mobile stuff like the coffeeshop where it's essentially useless. I can go to any Panera and have only had something similar once. Frustrating to say the least esp. since my HP works flawlessly.

The airport update most definitely did not resolve my drops. I've been having them since 10.5.0 on a Rev. B macbook. Yesterday afternoon I was still dropping 10-15 times in about 10 minutes. I even bought a brand new router, no dice. I'll have to try the keychain thing. It's not the router/internet because my roommate's PC and brand new macbook don't have the problem. This is so infuriating... if I had wanted a computer that had to be wired to be useful, I would have saved $500 and bought a desktop.

It is so frustrating: Now I do not only need to use Boot Camp to game every once in a while, but also to connect to the Internet.

Actually, I tend to spend more time in Vista than in Leopard lately.

to be honest i've seen so many descriptions of the problem, there must be something badly wrong with 10.5 that mutates certain files. It's probably something so complicated that they can't fix it until 10.6

Those of you that are having problems with wireless internet drops please try this and let me know if it resolves any of your issues. I know with my set-up, Linksys WRT54g and iMac CDE, it did.

System preferences/network/(be sure airport is selected)advanced/DNS/

then click in the DNS servers box/click the + to add and enter 4.2.2.1/

then click the + again to add and enter 4.2.2.2/OK/apply

It should look something like this

Thanks, I have just tried that out. It does not work for me, though.

It has been five months since Leopard was released and still there is no fix addressing this issue. It drives me nuts.

Wireless Problems

I've had this brand new 2.4ghz macbook for nearly two weeks now... i've had nothing but trouble with the wireless network connections.

called up apple twice, they told me to do the same thing twice and both times i told them it didnt work. useless.

using OSX and XP (BootCamp) neither seem to connect to the network at first try, i get a 'Connection Timeout' message when trying to connect.

At first i thought it may have been a problem with my router so i upgraded all the firmware, still nothing, so i tried it on 3 other routers, and still the problem persists.

The networks havent changed at all and before i was using my iBook with Tiger on all and they all worked fine.

When the update was released yesterday i thought it had fixed my problems. Was fine for a couple of restarts and sleep's however when i got back last night, it happened again and has been happening all of today as well.

I dont know what to do!
