When to buy an iMac?

If it changes prices significantly, then by all means to the return/re-buy. And we won't know exactly what's in this refresh until the new units are officially unveiled. If there is something more than a .1 GHz speed bump it may be the smart play to exchange it.

I suspect this upgrade to the iMac will be equivalent to the MacBook Air - Essentially just letting users get this years intel and geforce card. It´s kinda funny, that we are soon entering the 7th month of 2014, and all apple has released of products are one update to their current MB Air that you can hardly call an update - and a rumored incremental iMac update. If Tim Cook and Eddy Cue actually means what they are saying, we are in for an insane 2nd half of this year - if not they, apple has been having a relaxed year indeed.

Hi guys,
I'm planning to buy a new imac, is now the right time or should i wait till new update?

Opinions are simply that, when Apple makes it happen, then it's a fact, but not until. So just call it a crap shoot for now.

Sooooo... those of us who are ready to buy a new 27" got absolutely nothing for waiting. :(

Any chance that Apple's not done yet? Price drop or slight update tomorrow or Friday maybe?

This is my same situation. Here are my thoughts: I was hoping to buy new 27" this week, but it's highly unlikely Apple would discount the 21" today, then do another update at the end of the week for the 27". What this means to me is that they will wait until later this year to update 27" for either (1) retina displays or (2) better processors. Without either/both of those components, there is no reason to update the 27".

Now I'm stuck in the boat of whether to take the plunge now (even though I hate the thought of getting an iMac that came out last year) or be patient for a potential 2-7 more months. I'll probably wait, but I was really hoping for the update this month.

I pulled the trigger and ordered a BTO 27' iMac with the 780m GPU this morning after nothing else was announced. However, I'm currently without a PC, so it's not like I had a lot of choice in the matter. :)

There will not be another refresh this week or anytime soon, so abandon all hope of that.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 27" as well. I just can't decide if I the i5 or the i7 processor is the way to go.

you will never regret getting the faster of the two. I don't even peak over like 20% cpu usage doing the most I have ever thrown at it. I bought mine 2 weeks ago maxed out on everything (except ram) and when i was nearing my 14 day return on monday and these rumors were going around I purposefully tried to stress this computer out with as much as I could and it didn't even notice I was using it lol. So I decided monday that even if they put the 880m in it i wouldn't ever even need it, so I didn't return it and I am super happy about that now.

My situation exactly. The original rumor from the French site said that the updates would be on Thursday this week, but I doubt that Apple will do that now. The question is when the next iMac update will take place. If it's going to have Broadwell, I don't think it'll be before Q1 2015.

I ordered a 21.5" with SSD last night. Should get here in a week or so according to the order confirmation. I'm going to use it to hold me down until the updated 27" is released. If that has all the bellz and whistles that's rumors make it out to have, then I'll transition my 21.5" over to my 10 year old and get myself that unit on release.

If the next version of the 27" iMac is just a spec bump, i.e. no Retina or redesign or just not that big of a deal, then I'll just hang onto my 21.5" for a few more years.

I have a 27" I'm looking to part with. Current generation and currently sits at $1999 on the apple site. Asking $1500 shipped
