I’ve given up on Apple ever releasing a new 27” iMac.

As much as I prefer the sleek design of an AIO I can certainly see the benefits of going the Mac Mini/Mac Studio and Studio Display route.

I just wish Apple would release a Studio Display without the fancy Webcam and Speakers to get it closer to the £1000 - £1200 mark.

I also wish Samsung would pull their finger out and release the ViewFinity S9!!!

They had a dedicated section on their website with plenty of pictures/videos and info (minus the release date and price) a few weeks ago but it seems to have been removed now…

The new iMac will have very small changes if any. They are probably sitting on so much inventory they won't make any changes which will result in more of this Crayola iMac to collect dust. The changes will be marginally in the sense it will allow them to basically recycle the sitting inventory to be dubbed as the new iMac.

The operating system in the Apple Studio display is "just" there. The end user has no direct interaction with it. There have been a few updates that were easily handled. I am not sure that the monitor OS version is tied to the computer OS version and thusly would be a separate "system" for Apple to update if a monitor issue were to crop up.

You expect people to be tripping over themselves to rush in and sweep up 2 year old (outdated) product?

Apple could VERY EASILY put an M2 Pro chip in the iMac and you'd have an instant winner. They could add a 120Hz display to the mix and these would fly off the shelf.
With a 32 inch display. 27 inch isn’t exactly huge anymore.

What if, in 3 or 4 years the monitor ceases to receive iOS updates? Will it keep working fine? Will it lose compatibility with some features or more modern operating systems?

Please, before pushing the red button, take your time to explain me why Apple’s Studio Display is a good long term purchase.
Interesting thoughts. I don't know the answers but I can tell you why I ordered one.
I've been reading and searching around for a while before deciding for it and not going for an alternative .
I live in Canada in a big city: I wasn't able to find a LG or Samsung or anything close to a 5k 27" that wasn't online
Not one to buy it in person, not one! I don't trust Amazon or BestBuy or their market sellers to send me one in good conditions.
Nothing available in any store, incredible but true
Close friends and family and other customers were telling me not to do it because of very bad experiences.
So far I trust Apple with its refurbished ones even if you pay a little more.
For myself, now, it's the only alternative. Sadly so 😒

P.s I don't need a bigger screen anyway

Then why aren't there seven color of MacBook Air? MacBook Pro? Mac Mini?

I don't know, nor would I second guess one of the most successful companies in the world with close to a billion customers, taking issue with their business strategies.

Since that seems to be an important question for you, can you write Tim Cook a letter asking him why, and then report back to us? Thanks.

My guess is that it comes down to their respective use cases. We often see iMacs being used in boutique stores by cashiers. Since they are meant to be put on display and be seen by people, it makes sense to give them a colourful exterior that can easily be spotted from a mile away.

Apple is basically telling you - put it somewhere prominent.

Other Macs typically aren’t used in such a scenario, hence they don’t need such striking colours.

Apple won't make iMacs larger than 24", because if they did, no one would buy the Studio display or the Pro display for such higher prices. Apple isn't there to give you what you want anymore. That was Beleaguered Apple, and they are sadly gone. Apple's lineup is designed to make things awkward for you unless you shell out tons of cash.

Think it’s clear the M1 iMac must not have sold that well which is why they’re taking forever to update it. The colors were a fun change up, but look so odd now next to other Macs in the lineup.

It’s too bad because the all-in-one is a good value. Plus, as long as the Studio Display is $1,599, there still isn’t a suitable replacement for the old 27” iMac in that $1,799-$1,999 range. At best, you’re looking at:

$1,599 - Studio Display
$599 - M2 Mac Mini
$149 - Magic Keyboard
$99 - Magic Mouse

$2,446 + tax
I suspect that the colours are exactly the problem. They appeal to a very limited audience, and even come across as an ideological statement.

No Space Grey, no Midnight, dead in the water.

Vision Pro is going to be the first M3 product. The only reason why they didn't announce this yet is because they don't want to put a shadow over the latest M2 Mac announcements. The thermal improvements and the improved battery efficiency will be perfect for the Vision Pro and the timing of the rumored transition lines up perfectly with "early next year"

Hey! Here's the page of the monitor with some nice slick and smooth pics/vids: https://www.samsung.com/th/monitors...nity-s9-27-inch-5k-resolution-ls27c900paexxt/
Can't wait having two of these here on my desk :)

Do you have third party monitors that received software update ever?

If a monitor is working fine today, why would it stop working tomorrow unless it is a hardware fault?

I succumbed and ended up buying a 24inch iMac to replace my old 27inch a while ago. The problem with buying a separate display and mini and is that by the time you've bumped up the mini to reasonable numbers (the lowest storage amount is tiny!) and added a keyboard and mouse, the price is a grand above what you'd pay for an iMac. So you're paying all that extra money for your original screen size and a couple of extra ports

At this point, I'd be surprised if a 27" iMac is released again.

I can see Apple maybe increasing the display size on the existing model to 25" and calling it a day. This would be a pretty compelling fuss-free, all-in-one option for those that want it.

Correct, you will. Mac Studio + Apple Studio Display is the bigger iMac option.

I love the Studio Display, but I REALLY would love it to be Mini Led and 120Hz. Movement judder is really obvious sometimes, for example using Stage Manager or panning around diagrams.

I know this will be resolved in the future when Thunderbolt 5 is the standard (which means a new screen and computer) but I imagine a 27" iMac Pro would be able to resolve that problem because it's all in the same device.

Very unlikely that a computer that must be plugged in is going to be the first one to get the more efficient "3nm" process.

No, I’ve never had a monitor that receives periodical software updates, as any other iOS device. That’s why I’m asking if anyone thinks it will have compatibility issues once it stops receiving software updates (I guess, by the time iOS stops running on A13 devices).

Other than that, and and the steep price, I would be happy to purchase it, specially now that I know how to use a PS5 with it.

I think the "bargain" pricing of the iMac 10 yrs ago are gone. I don't see Apple canabalizing its Monitor sales and its mini/studio sales. IF there is a 27" iMac again I don't see it starting at less than $2200.. and it being a base mini spec at that.

Apple seem to be happy to let random products stagnate. I'm sure this is due to sales figures and "just in time" stock levels and so forth - and is partly why Apple is so profitable. But from a marketing perspective it's odd that some products wait years while others don't.
