I don't care what the internet cares about. The iPhone is the product of western innovation, so it makes sense to plan the launch according to the timezone of where headquarters is, which is California.

Nope, Apple is a global company yet still acts as if they are American.
Just look at what people miss outside of the states, Apple Tv is a joke in most countries except the states, plenty of services are not available for other countries like ApplePay yet we pay the same or (lots) more for an iPhone, plenty more examples.

Does anyone know how it will work with upgrading from the X to the XS or XS Max? I bought the X on launch day last year and was looking to upgrade on launch day this year. I am on AT&T for what it's worth. I did the monthly installment plans too.

Apple is an American company, built by Americans, and running on American innovation. The fact that Apple products are available in your country as well is a nice privilege, but it doesn't mean that Apple is a "global" company. There's no such thing.

It will tell you if you owe the 12th payment and if you need to pay. It will ask you what it needs. Pretty easy. Then either trade your phone in at your local store or ship pre paid back to Apple if new iPhone is mailed to you.

What are you even rambling about? We're talking about the US EAST COAST here; as someone else posted where 45% of the US population lives.

The point was it's too late on the US east coast at 3am and pushing it back 2 hours to say 1am east coast would not hurt any other time zone. The US east coast is the time zone that gets screwed out of any out there; no one else has middle of the night on a work night.

Making the launch 2 hours earlier than it is now for everyone so its fair for east coast US people on a work night; not 3am.

I don't know the exact numbers but the majority of sales are outside of the states, last time I heard about it it was significant more than 60%, that makes it a global company, whether it is based in the states or not.

Seems we disagree, no problem.:)

I was in the same boat. I got my X on launch day last year so I went on AT&T's website and checked my Next installment plan and I had to pay the final 2 installments (I only had made 10 payments) before I could upgrade this year. I believe it was $90 something.

Has anybody ever tried using a VPN to bypass the timezone restraints? Not really looking forward to waking up at midnight when I have to wake up at 5am for work.

A lot of those are issues that rely on other parties besides Apple (i.e. rights holders for content for the Apple TV, local banks and regulations for Apple Pay) so they’re at the mercy of someone else.

Yes, I am aware of that, mind you, there are also ways to buy without the tax AFAIK (inside the States).

Only if you live in a state with no sales tax or live near by one and can travel there to get it. Sales taxes are set at the state level and there is no federal sales tax. There are only 4 states, out of 50 plus territories, with no sales tax. The vast majority of people here end up paying sales tax on their purchases.

It’s the same time everywhere...

I see no difference in band support compared to the german sheet. Not talking about CDMA version of course

They are world phones.

I dont usually pre order... have a question of those that do. I recall last year reading from some people that used the App Store App to place the order (got an email from Apple touting this as the best method) thta they had issues and ended up with delivery times a lot later than those that used the web browser. Was that true or a few isolated incedents?

Header says "all", text says not!

In a way everyone should boycot Apple/buying these new iPhones, maybe then they will think twice about those ridiculous prices, a base iPhone Xs sets you back €1150, that's €300 more than in the States, and that's not all, if we would get the same features as in the states but sadly Apple still think it's an American company, guess what, it's not, it's a global company.

*Yes, I expect iPhones to be a bit more expensive here in Europe but they're just price gauging customers.

It is click bait, they knew you would get triggered and then read the full article.

Let me know if I have any of the time zones wrong here and I'll update. It can be a little tricky with daylight savings in different places, but hopefully I've got an accurate list.
Two others have pointed this out too, but I'm gonna add a little more detail.

New Zealand has not entered Daylight Savings time yet, this does not happen until 30 September, at 2am NZST, so your entry for New Zealand should read 7:01pm NZST, as Apple has posted.

AS far as I was aware, US and UK same bands.

No idea the rest of the world.

Nope, the US auctioned off and deployed 700MHz spectrum well before the rest of the world did. LTE bands 12, 13, 14, 17 and 29 for the 700MHz spectrum are used pretty much exclusively in the US (and US territories) and Canada, plus a few other random places. The rest of the world is using LTE bands 28 and 44 for 700MHz spectrum.

New Zealand is only two hours ahead of Australia's East Coast. Daylight Savings doesn't kick in until September 30th for NZ.

The US phone doesn’t have LTE band 28 which is used in the rest of the the world.
yes but not required in the rest of the world. Quad-band iPhones past iPhone5s (and maybe earlier) can operate in every country.

that is true yes. if you order for delivery there is that risk. you eliminate that by choosing Apple Store Pickup instead, as the inventory in stores is much more guaranteed. you can pick up from Apple Store on release day at the time window you choose.

Sure, it’s not required but that is a 700MHz band that you’re not going to want to be without.

So not one person bitching about the prices? What has happened to MacRumors? :)

I sat out last year (not going down from a Plus to regular) and never been keen on the notch. Regardless of how many Android phones chose to copy it. I'm at the acceptance this is it now though.

Seems an 8+ isnt worth it when an Xr is only slightly more if you wait a month. Why are they keeping the 8+ at all?

A 7+ is not enough of a step up from my 3 year old 6s+.

What to do (first world problem, I know)?

I want/need a new phone. Or change the battery which has been woeful since an iOS11 update "for some reason".

I spent an extra out-of-plan year waiting for this bigger one. Now I'm oscillating: buy XsMax, buy an older + or change the battery on 6s+. :(

What happened to all those "expert" forecasters who got the name wrong AND the cheaper pricing? Stop giving them web space!!!

Apple seem to have decided they want US$150 between each model as the differentiator. It will be interesting to see how many people finally pike as the premium pricing tugs their wallets and hearts.

ATT site says add a line and get a buy one get one free XS. Wish I needed to add another line! Also have to have DirecTV.

If you get an older model would you plan on keeping that for 3 years also or would you upgrade sooner since it’s less expensive? While the 7 Plus isn’t a major upgrade from the 6s Plus, the dual camera system is significantly better and the CPU is a pretty good performance upgrade. One option would be to get that this year, then just keep it one year, sell it and get the 11 or whatever they call it since it’ll likely be a redesign and keep that for a few years.

I'm tempting myself ... I said that $1450 was too much but damn I would love to have that huge screen. Ugh.

Thankfully 256GB is enough for me which saves me a couple hundred bucks. I’ve still got 99GB free on my X 256GB. With Apple Music streaming and unlimited data back on all the carriers I keep less music and videos stored on my phone so the main driver of storage usage these days is photos/video that I take, and I’ve got 11 years of photos and videos stored on here going back to the original iPhone in 2007. I figure by the time I fill this up 512GB will have replaced 256GB in the price lineup.

Yes but you can't be "first"... and nobody at all can care about your unboxing photos... or that Fedex switched your shipping status...etc.

Worse: one of your friends- dare I write this down??? - might be able to show off that THEY have the latest & greatest to you and your mutual friends upwards of 4 weeks BEFORE you.:eek::eek: Think business card scene from American Psycho:

You'll just have your old, outdated, "long-in-tooth" iPhone to compare. Yes, of course it still does pretty much everything the new one does, runs pretty much every single app in the store, etc... but you know we have to start beating down the one we have to help us rationalize buying the new one as part of this process: I mean, do you really want to send/receive a text message up to 0.06 seconds slower? What is this 2017.75 or something?

All ;)

Yah! 20% off, fer sure! Wait, what? For 20% I go backside skiing, get avalanche crunched, dog rescue in 2 days, 2 weeks rehab broken leg, 2 more induced coma, gimp home, order and pickup, voila! Pix of adventure on old phone to all, pix of retry same slope rip on XS Max. First adopter buds on street corners bug-eyed, slack-jawed. Yay!
