Yeah it doesnt look bad. And I know Apple will make the stainless steel much smoother than the Ultra (the bump on the right prob wont be on the SS)
The bump on the right probably won’t be on the stainless steel. If the Ultra went any bigger, I would not upgrade. This is the biggest I would go.

I was surprised that the Ultra did not look bigger than the 44mm that I have. I was appreciative of the bigger and brighter screen.

I have small wrists and when I tried the Ultra on it looked ridiculous on me. The watch was nearly the width of my wrist and so thick it would catch on so many things which would do my head in. I was eager to try one on for peace of mind and it confirmed thankfully that I couldn’t wear it. I’m looking at a Series 10 this year, been wearing a 41mm for the past 5 years, the 38mm before that. Hoping the rumoured 45mm isn’t too big.

Can't speak about the UK, but in some places I see a lot more cheap smart watches. Many appear to be intentionally designed to be easily mistaken for an Apple Watch...
Yeah that pesky circle shape everyone on here wanted back in the day didnt seem to become the iconic shape we know and love today....

At my UK gym this morning in the weights section there was me and 9 other guys - 6 had apple watches (including 3 ultras) and 2 looked like samsung...

I wanted the longer battery life, bigger screen and brighter screen so the Ultra was a no brainer for me. I got so used to the size that it never looked big to me and everybody else around me didn’t notice any difference except the bump on the side.

That’s fair enough if it works for you. I wear my apple Watches in a corporate environment so need it to suit smart shirts etc. Can’t have a bulky watch that stands nearly 15mm off my wrist, but then again I don’t do water sports or necessarily need a big screen either. Just tried it to see if I could wear it and I couldn’t.

If you’re looking for rumors, here’s one:
They’re discontinuing stainless steel.

That’s more of an educated guess than a rumor, though, since all of the stainless steel bands are unavailable for delivery (even on new watches). Plus, they use minimum stainless steel outside of Watch so eliminating it would optimize their supply chain.

My guess is they’ll replace it with a new premium line (eg Watch Edition) with the new thinner 45/49mm form factor while leaving the regular line largely alone. This would also explain the two different size rumors and be similar to their iPhone X launch.

Edit: I suspect the Hermes stainless steel will stick around but be based on the mainline Apple Watch

My guess for when they‘ll discontinue stainless steel: NEVER.

It is the classic Apple Watch look/finish as well as the most used material for regular (dumb) watches, by far.
I wonder if they would switch to Titanium at some point like they did with the iPhone. For me weight doesn't matter on the wrist but maybe it does to some. If for supply chain reasons Titanium doesnt cost much more due to the bulk they are getting with the iPhone and it can be a huge marketing tool etc
i am torn with the 45/49 rumor. idk whether to keep the 45 ive had for pretty much gen 0. i know it was 42 then 44 but still very similiar, the 49 looks huge imo. but i may want a change. ugh

I was already considering going to a 45 this year. My wrists are fairly small, but my eyes aren’t getting better, and if I ever need to actually respond to a text or something, it‘s challenging. I don’t have a huge collection of bands at this point because I had pared down to my few favorites, so not a crisis there.

I currently have a SS series 8, but going to go back to aluminum in the larger size. I just don’t want more weight.

I just wish it would be a little thinner/more streamlined.
With the bigger size rumors, I'm assuming the physical size doesn't change that much, I know the mm is case size, not screen. But if the 10 or "X" gives us this "all new design" that people have been floating out....then maybe it's them redesigning the case a bit to where the case doesn't curve/flare out much. I don't mean a pure rectangle like an iPhone, but if they can make the actual usable screen take up like 98% of the physical size. I don't think I'm doing the best job of explaining this lol

That’s understandable. I’m in the federal government but not at a desk, so I don’t have to wear a suit, so any watch is fine. I work a lot of hours so the longer battery life and brighter screen was necessary for me. I am looking into a desk job next year though.

i think we will see a modest spec bump.
I will bet against that. This is the ten year anniversary. I will be very surprised if they don't do something relatively big for it.

Do it. I have small wrists and the 45 is no problem.

I have child sized wrists and have the Ultra1 and absolutely love it.
I finally got around to trying an Ultra and did not found it to look ridiculous like I thought it would. Wasn't expecting that.

I love mine. It doesn’t look any bigger than my 44mm S4.

There's a lot of AW to be seen here in Norway too, and other smart watches of course. I won't upgrade this year, or I don't intend to at least. The only thing I would fix on my watch is the battery life, but its not a big deal- I get trough the day and then some.
Always being afraid of a discharged battery on my phone, my car and all other devices (without any real cause) there should be an emergency charger for the aw available. 😅

So if the rumours are true and the old 38/40/41 becomes 45mm, and the old 42/44/45 becomes 49mm, what will band compatibility from old models be like?

And how will they distinguish between the new 45mm smallest version vs the old 45mm larger version?

Or they might get rid of the smallest version altogether and have old 45mm bands fit the new 45mm case?

I’m confused just typing this lol

It may be that they keep the same case size but increase the screen (reducing bezels).

yeah im looking very forward to the announcement

Yes I think that will likely be the case. Similar to the rumors of the increased sizes of the iPhone 16 generation - I think it’s unlikely the actual phone dimensions increase (or if they do, very minimally) and most of the increase is just due to reduced bezel size.

So with the Apple Watch, I would think similarly, the actual physical dimensions of the watches will remain the same, and thus band compatibility remains the same. That being said, purely from a “naming” standpoint, if the smaller watch (currently 41mm) becomes 44mm or 45mm (the former bigger watch size), agreed it will make naming the watches / watch bands a bit more tricky…

Separately, I too am really curious how incremental the updates to the Apple Watch Series 10 / “Series X” will be… very few rumors indeed. While I am keeping my expectations low that it will in fact be modest and incremental, deep down, I am kind of hoping there will be a big surprise. I’ve saved up some $ in my Apple Savings Account from the cashback on my Apple Card spending, and have those funds allocated to potentially pickup the S10 and upgrade my SS S7 which I’ve had for nearly 3 years now...

I don’t *need* to upgrade, but I’d love to have an easier decision to do it :D

Given the ridiculous pricing of the Garmin Fenix 8 I *really* hope Apple doesn't try and ramp up watch prices this time around, and secretly hoping for more than small incremental updates as my Ultra 1 is on 88% battery health so considering an upgrade!

Yeah let's not give Apple any ideas here! Keep the price and bump the battery - Will make me upgrade - 88% here as well

Sounds like the boat I'm in - Don't need it, but if it's cool I really want it 🤣

My Apple watch battery is on 72% and just gets through a day, I don’t think 88% is anything to panic about.

Even after swapping my many steel watches for the titanium ultra, it just is a total classic. My wife has one as she absolutely loves it compared to the aluminium
Yep; I have owned the SS all the way back to launch and this would be sad as it would mark a full abandonment of AW as a proper watch. Still miss the nicer packaging and hard cases. I get the aluminum as the main/best selling (even with the ‘Sport’ thing long gone) but SS is the de facto finish IMO.

On further study, confirmed..

An online retailer posted already today new protective cases
