I am happy to hear that you are happy with your new to you iMac.

Thanks! I'll soon put a video link in one of my quotes soon or later.

I went there once. All of their PowerPC Macs seemed very over priced for what you got. Did they have any orange ones?

No, they didn't.

This is another reason not to buy from eBay.

Mac Mini G4 1.42GHz with a "Mavericks" theme installed but advertised falsely to be running "OS X Mavericks 10.5.8" and a few lines down stated as "Snow Leopard 10.5.8". Either the person has no clue what they're talking about or are betting people buy it thinking it runs the latest software.

Besides that, I had a terrible experience with Global Shipping Program recently. Given all the costs of importing and shipping back if an item is received damaged, it's best to deal locally via Craigslist/Kijiji or a similar site.

The best Mac "picking" I've ever found is from electronics recyclers located in college towns. About 70 miles from me is a town that has at least 12 public and private colleges. Two electronics recyclers pretty much have the Mac market wrapped up in that region and I've became good friends with both of them during the past 10 years. I've always tried to treat them "right" by helping them with info about the Macs they get in... and it's absolutely amazing what they've given me to haul home in return. I've owned several Macs from every college in that town.

It is absolutely nothing for a college to buy $100,000's worth of new Macs every few years... then label everything as "trash" and sell it all to a local recycler for a few cents per pound.

One of the recyclers is starting to see Macbook Pros. I'm trying my hardest to get a few from him.

Why can't I have this kind of luck?

Wow. Thats awesome. Up in MO, I presume? Man, if only Memphis colleges were that rich.

Yep... Missouri.

It all started about 8 years ago when I was out of work for a few months and stumbled across a flea market seller who had the neatest electronics salvage I'd ever seen selling dirt cheap in his booth... including tons of Mac stuff. I started buying stuff out of his booth and reselling it on Ebay which easily got me by for a few months in between jobs. We eventually became good friends and he introduced me to his contacts... which led to even more.

I've always been in awe how colleges and schools can just throw entire computer labs in the trash... but they certainly do... and 99.9% of the time the stuff still works perfectly fine.

I don't see too many G3's or G4's at the recyclers anymore. Mostly now it seems to be centered around G5's like Aluminums and iMacs.

Astonishing wouldn't you say...

Yeah, Craigslist is really variable by location. Also, you have to find the guy that is just trying to dump his old machine/machines. Not the guy that bought the iBook 10 years ago for $2k and thinks it is still worth $250 or more and has no desire to sell it for cheaper, no matter what you enlighten him of.

There are far more of the latter than the former on Craigslist.

There have been several craiglist ads where I'd like to call him and ask about his mental sanity.

People are ridiculous... Chances are that he or she is preying on a poor schlep who is trying to get into Macs cheaply. I would offer $50 and see what he or she says.

Well, I don't want it. I almost called her/him and told them off, but I'd rather just report them. False info, probably not a mistake.

Done, another thing that makes me mad is the people stating the value new, and ANOTHER thing is having multiple ads for the same machine.

That is quite annoying. I reported someone with a BlackBook advertised as an early 2009. The latest it could of been was an early 2008 but certainly did not sounds like one the way they described it.

I actually have a performa sitting in my basement. Original keyboard, tower, hardware, software, mouse, and monitor. Everything works great. $5 plus shipping and it's yours. If you have any questions, just ask.

I think I may be interested! What would the fair/truthful shipping price be? ;)

Ugh... I am with you. I hate when someone thinks that just because they bought a computer for well over $1k 10 years ago, it should be like $200 now. I can't tell you how many times I have seen overpriced cr@p that people are too snobby to drop the price on, even after you explain the facts.

Agree!! Craigslist NH sucks for old cheap Macs. :(

Bless any of you that have lucked out with that site

Maine is an amazing place for getting Macs. I know of this guy who has tons of Macs, and he claims that he bought a Mac collection from CL that included rare items. I looked at the Maine CL and saw a TAM selling for $800, when they now go for over $1k on eBay, I saw a cheap and pristine Macintosh Plus, and even a guy giving a Mac IIci away for free! Lucky-lucky.

I am jealous... I have scored cool things from my school's e-waste before, but where I live, schools don't really throw things directly into the trash. I really hate when a stupid school has some collector's Mac and has no idea how cool it is, only ending up tossing it. I saw the PowerMac G3 all-in-one at a school once. I am sure they tossed that or something. I have been trying to get in contact with e-waste facilities, but I wish I knew someone who could get me what that guy gets you.

0_0 This is why I hate when facilities like to give to recyclers. Recyclers scrap most things. Some sell stuff, but I hate to know that classic Macs make their ways into the pile. I scored a pristine Macintosh Classic II at my school's e-waste drive. (also a 1987 Apple display that probably went with the Macintosh II that was most likely in there... :( )

Joplin is really lucky to be in the position he is in with all of the ewaste and erecyclers around. In fact, he may still have iBooks for sale if you were interested. He did the last I spoke to him. PM him if you want one.

Sure thing, I will. BTW, just saw an ad on CL for a "G5 PowerMac dual core Intel"... They said it was modded with 64GB of RAM. The G5 can only take up to 16GB, so IDK what's going on there. xD $750...
