Assuming that's the part that nobody else makes (or nobody else sells to end users), what other choice would we have?
Yeah, I understand :(
I wonder how they can sell it without catching heat from Acument for patent infringement?

Just had an idea: why not use either heated plastic or strong epoxy and mold it into the screwhead? You can also mold the top so it fits a standard allen socket driver

Quite old thread this one...
Anyway, I recommend ifixit for high quality tools for mac - besides good videoguides for repairs + fast delivery of ordered goods.

Yes, it's an old thread, but the least you could do is read through it to understand what is being discussed before posting.

ifixit doesn't offer one of these:

Sorry, my bad. Ifixit recommends using: 'small flathead screwdriver' for the special torx!! I take my previous post back.

You're still wrong. They are tamper resistant because they have a post in the middle of the screw drive that prohibits you from inserting a standard torx plus driver. Thus, you need the TX drivers, which are sale-restricted, which is not what makes them tamper resistant, it's a specific physical limitation that prevents you from using a standard torx plus.

Actually, this is what Wikipedia says on the Torx page:

"There is also a tamper resistant version of TORX PLUS, having five lobes rather than six, and a solid post in the center. This is used for tamper resistance as the drivers are still hard to obtain, and are given the designation, 'Torx TX'."

I'm looking at a unibody MBP right now, and the battery screws are 5-pointed and do NOT require the kind of driver with a hole in the middle. Unfortunately, I do not have one. ifixit says you can carefully use a 1.5 (mm?) flat screwdriver, which, in my many sets of teensy tools, I also lack. I have an email in to ifixit, but I do not think they carry this tool. What a pain. I suppose it's a baaaad idea to take out the hard drive while the battery's still in there...

Go to a local Sears. They have all kinds, including the 6. I bought 3 of them, all for around $15...

While replacing the logic board in a 15" macbook pro that suffered water damage, I was able to fairly easily remove them with pliers.

I opened my 15" Mid-09 MBP to clean the fans yesterday, and the 5 point torx screws holding the battery (2 of them), do not seem to be tamper proof.

Have you tried removing them? The screws are black and the pins are hardly noticeable. Although I think there are some knocking about with standard 5-point screws.

I know the tamper torx has the little pin in in the middle of the star that would prevent a regular torx from fitting. I think earlier in this thread it was clarified that the 13" MBP has those tamper proof torx for sure, but I didn't certainly see them in the 15"
