Where would you live if you could live in any country other than your own?

Yet another for BC, Canada. It's like two hours from where I live already, and where I want to put my boats in anyway.

Australia so I could buy a Holden Commodore. :D

interesting. How come?
Because in Soviet Russia, the Macintosh uses YOU!

London is pure awesomeness.
In all seriousness, I am planning on moving out of Britain when it is feasible for me to do so. It certainly isn't at the moment unfortunately.

I'm unsure what you find great about Britain, but I hope you enjoy it more than I have done (as someone who has lived in Britain from birth).

I'm probably going to move to Australia. I have 'friends' and 'relatives' there.

China - love the place and the people but will wait till they've sorted the pollution out before I go

Sean :)

Same as my position. I just can't see greatness anywhere in the UK. High taxes, poor standards of living compared to the price in many areas. Some parts of the UK are impoverished, London itself is a dreadful place to live (spent 4 years there) - everything is overpriced, people are definitely not friendly, and the longer you live there, the less friendly you become yourself. It is not easy to make new friends in London, not at all.

The parts of the UK that are really pretty and nice, are also horribly insular, I know that myself from coming from a countryside background.

But like any country, if you have a good group of people around you, and a good salary, you can be enjoy anywhere - that doesn't mean that it's a great place to live comparatively in my eyes. Not anymore. I pay a lot in tax, I want to start to enjoy it, and like the quoted poster, that means moving out in a few years. When I said Vancouver earlier, I really am intent on moving there.

I love living in the UK. The weather's great despite what many people say. I like having 4 seasons. I like it to snow in the winter, and I like it to be clear blue skies in the summer. We get a bit of it all and I love it! Depending where you are, the people are nice too. I guess still being a student I haven't had to experience the high taxes - but if it's what you have to pay for good quality free healthcare, and free education, then so be it. Obviously if they got rid of all the MP's expenses tax rates could be cut by at least 5% :p

As for a different country to live in, I don't have much experience of having long stays abroad. It would definitely have to be an English speaking country though. I'm thinking one of the Northern states in the US. The ones that border with Canada maybe. I'd love to live somewhere like Seattle or Chicago.

I found out my parents came incredibly close to emigrating us all to Canada in the 90's, which I guess would've been awesome.

LA then NY, that's the plan at least.

Haha I will make a list in order of preference:
1. Switzerland
2. France
3. The Netherlands
4. Finland
5. USA
6. Canada

I'm really surprised that Canada has been mentioned by so many people! I love being Canadian, but I'm still surprised it's so popular!!

I'd like to live in Japan. Sure, I've been there over 10 times, but I've never lived there, so it's still within the rules. ;)

Also: New Zealand, Belgium, The Netherlands, Mauritius, or Fiji.

Not my experience at all. I met lots of people in London and everyone was always friendly. Plus in Portugal we pay higher taxes but we have much less to show for it: less parks, less cultural events, museums are expensive, etc. Not only that but we pay the same for a lot of the same stuff (clothes, electrnics) but our wages are about half.

Believe me, it's an improvement.

I went to Vancouver as a kid and absolutely loved it. Will be going back soon hopefully but it's first on my list as my second home.

I like your thinking! My mate has a second hand one and it's a beast :)

China - love the place and the people but will wait till they've sorted the pollution out before I go

Sean :)

You love the people? Being Chinese myself, born in Hong Kong and been to China a few times, people in China doesn't know the word "manners". They actually have to teach people to line up on TV before the Beijing Olympics. I've had this experience first hand in a China airport and many others.

I'm really surprised that Canada has been mentioned by so many people! I love being Canadian, but I'm still surprised it's so popular!!

What he said, and a couple said Vancouver. From what I've heard, the average price for a 2500 sq ft house is over $1M in a not so nice neighbourhood.

I would love to live in Japan or Sweden, mostly for the good looking girls. :D

You love the people?
Sure do. I don't think they've got no manners, just very different manners! Aside from that I met so many friendly people when travelling about the country and the women are just knockout

You say that today, on an unusually sunny and warm day. I've lived here for almost 4 years and I've been so completely disappointed by the "summer". It's pretty damn dreary the vast majority of the time. Year after year I kept waiting and waiting for summer to arrive only to have a week or two (TOTAL, and almost never on the weekend :p) of nice days and just cold grey crap for the rest of the alleged summer. It's like our "4 seasons" are 60% bitter cold gloomy winter, 15% spring, 5% summer and 10% autumn. At least that's how it feels... maybe just in the last few years but it's been enough to make this Californian girl pretty despondent about the weather.
That being said, I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it is today but it's like this far too infrequently for my liking.

Funnily enough I just said on twitter that if the weather could be like it is today even just a few days a week for the summer months that I would never again complain about the weather. I totally mean that and I complain a lot about it. :p

Aaaaanyway, on topicly - I moved from the US to the UK and in spite of the frequently lousy weather, over all I really do like living in the UK. There is such history here, amazing architecture, endearing quirkiness and so many awesome surprises when you go exploring around.

If I were to pick another country to move to maybe Australia or New Zealand. It's unlikely though. For some reason I can't imagine myself wanting to ever be more than an hour away from London. :)

I just like the Scandinavian countries because they are really clean and they're quite 'green' countries. Also I like Ikea and Swedish food :D
