You say that today, on an unusually sunny and warm day. I've lived here for almost 4 years and I've been so completely disappointed by the "summer". It's pretty damn dreary the vast majority of the time. Year after year I kept waiting and waiting for summer to arrive only to have a week or two (TOTAL, and almost never on the weekend :p) of nice days and just cold grey crap for the rest of the alleged summer. It's like our "4 seasons" are 60% bitter cold gloomy winter, 15% spring, 5% summer and 10% autumn. At least that's how it feels... maybe just in the last few years but it's been enough to make this Californian girl pretty despondent about the weather.
That being said, I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it is today but it's like this far too infrequently for my liking.

To be honest, personally I'm not too bothered by the weather. For instance, I would like to live in Iceland and the weather isn't too great there, but I prefer cold weather to hot anyway. I'm just not really bothered that much about what the weather is like, but I can see why some people don't like the weather here.

Oh yeah, I'm just Californian to the bone. I'm all about the hot and sunny. I'm pretty out of place in terms of weather here but if that's my biggest complaint it's not so bad really. :)

What does the rainy season in Vancouver look like? How about the summers? Anyone know?

It only rains once or twice a winter in Vancouver. Starts in November, stops in February. Starts again, and ends in June. June is often called "Junuary". It can and has rained for 40 days in a row (not all day every day, but at least once a day). Summers, can be wonderful - if the June rains don't extend into July, and if the November rains don't start in August.

With all of that said, and some of it tongue-in-cheek, when it's nice in Vancouver it is heaven. Really. To be driving across the Cambie St bridge into town at twilight can take your breath away, on a clear evening, when the glass on the buildings catch the colour in the sky, play with it, and toss it back to you a rainbow of a different palette where gold, bronze, silver, emerald green are dominant. And then it rains.

Summer can be heavenly there. A few days when it gets toasty hot during the day, but it always cools off at night. Most summer days are temperate. Hardly anyone has air-conditioning - the ocean breezes pick up at night.

What you also have to know about Vancouver, and the rest of the South West BC is that everything is about micro-climates. The mountains and the oceans put Metro Vancouver into about 3 climate zones.

Victoria (30 minute float plane ride) has twice the sun and half the rain as Vancouver).

I think I'd move to either London, or New Zealand.
Actually, I'd move first to Montreal or Haida Gwaii - which technically still follow the rules of this thread....

I wouldn't want to live anywhere other than Toronto, but assuming it dropped off the face of the Earth I'd go for Auckland, New Zealand. High quality of life, picturesque country.

Spain for the siestas and chicas.
France for the food and healthcare.
England for the beer and no language barrier. :)
Australia for the locale and no language barrier. :)

One thing is to live there and another is to visit them.

USA: where you can get the best from everywhere else in the world.

Switzerland, Lebanon, Brazil, Chilli

Would have to visit all of them before making my mind up though.

Agreed. Love visiting NYC, couldn't live there. Love visiting London, but I don't really know if I could live there.

Not necessarily.
Best Japanese restaurants (outside of Asia) - Vancouver
Best Chinese restaurants (outside of Asia) - Vancouver
Best Indian food (outside of Asia)- London
Best Indonesian food (outside of Asia) - Holland
Best walled city (outside of Europe) - Quebec City
Best European experience, outside of Europe - Montreal
Best Icelandic experience, outside of Iceland - Manitoba

I seem to be fixated on food here.... :D

Where to live....

Either Vancouver or Australia.

I would be happy either way.

If I had to choose somewhere other than Minnesota in the USA though, I would move back to Montana and get an awesome luxury trailer in the boonies and spend all day shooting cans, snowboarding, and taking pictures :D

See- I think the weather in Britain sounds fantastic. We're approaching the ridiculously hot time of year in Chicago. We've already hit 90 more than a few times and it's not even officially summer yet. The only good thing about summer is my lovely, urban back yard. It's the best for sitting and having drinks at night.

Canada, no clue where, but it's the only country I could really see myself living in other than the UK.

I can't stand warm climates, I find british summers uncomfortably hot, I also like to preserve my internet tan.

Not to make you jealous or anything iBlue, but its definitely about 85 today and about 75 at the beaches. :D

I enjoyed London when I was there. The weather definitely isn't great, but the city is interesting with lots of cultural and other events/places to visit.

You may want to narrow that down a bit... if you just threw a dart at a map you might end up needing to speak French. Or eating seal meat. Or lots and lots of fish.

If you don't like British summers, then I would suggest leaving out the entire middle of the country. Toronto has already had a "warm weather event". If you stay within 100 km or so of the coasts you should be fine. If you really really don't like heat, anywhere in Nunavut should suit you fine. :)

It's in the 80's here today and humid. It's awful.

I'd love to move to Lebanon, only because you said we can pick a place we lived before. I know it's not the safest place in the world, but they have the best food!!! I've lived in the West Bank for 7.5 years, so I think I could deal with the safety issues.

I'd have to go with Latvia.

Riga is pretty awesome, and the women are something else.

New Zealand, Monaco and Costa Rica take honorable mention. Iceland was on the list, but recent developments make me take (slight) pause...

america might suck but its better than anywhere on earth so im gonna go with an alternate universe where obama isn't president and all democrats dont exist.

lol how is obama not in spell check on Firefox?
