I use Apple pay on my iPhone every week at Shop Rite. You may have hit a defective terminal. I had your experience at a McDonald's one time, turns out it was the terminal.

Funny story, at aforementioned Shop Rite every time I get this one cashier and use the stores app to display the loyalty card, she makes a comment about technology. I don't think she pays attention when I use Apple pay with my phone to pay, but once I get my watch, she'll freak I'm sure.

Ok I'll try it again next time. Maybe the cashier has to do something special? Do you tell them you're going to use Apple Pay or NFC or something?

For those who like to draw attention to themselves and hope to impress others Apple pay is the answer. They justify it as such a time saver.

I don't have to be recognized by what is in my pocket (iPhone) or on my wrist (choice of watch).

If I'm going to use a card instead of cash, it's fast and easy to remove it from its dedicated location in my wallet, swipe, and put it back. It's just not a big deal.

The truly exciting benefit of Apple pay is the big profits Apple makes from it. Downplaying that fact is something Apple does masterfully, they've got the Apple Disciples convinced it's for their benefit.

Apples an amazing marketing machine. No wonder they have all the money :)

Or the fact that your credit card information isn't exposed to the merchants systems and databases.

When you assume....well if you're mature you know what they say...
Swiping is secure when being mindful, just like practicing safe computing.
Apple Pay has no proven advantage yet..only time will tell.
Remember Apple Loves You for Believing everything they tell you too.
Stupid? You said it not I :)

Swiping is safe if you are mindful? How could being mindful have prevented your data being exposed at Target? Or tjmaxx or...

I don't, I just put the watch face really close to the machine and hold it there until it beeps. I don't even know if the cashier knows how I paid.

I also own a well-organized, not overstuffed wallet. It's the kind that doesn't even fold in half, no zipper, etc. - basically just a card holder. I often keep it in my pocket. Apple watch pay is still easier. It's pretty amazing, actually, how easy it is.
I'm not surprised at all the supporters. Apple Pay is trendy and it gives some people warm fuzzy feelings when using it to pay for things.

A huge cross section of society embraces trendy. It's all about choices. Nothing more than yet one more payment system, it's just another income stream for Apple.

Wow. Yep, that's what it is. We're just making up how easy it is, and lying about it being more secure. Heck the whole internet is making it up, just to look cool.

Seriously, educate yourself on payment security. You seem well on your way to becoming someone who puts hundred dollar bills into birthday cards and drops them in the mail.

You can be mindful about swiping all you want. It still is not secure and you information can be stolen very easily especially if there is a card skimming device at the terminal. FYI, Apple Pay is nothing new. Dynamic security codes and Device Account Numbers (aka, tokens and cryptograms) are not unique to Apple and are built into the NFC specification that the company adopted. In fact, much of the Apple Pay system is built on existing technology. So, it IS already proven.

You think Apple Pay is "trendy". You returned your Apple Watch and you don't like the iPhone 6. Good for you. So go enjoy your Android and call it a day.

Flight Check in

Used mine for the first time to check in for flights this past couple days. We don't have apple pay in the Uk but we can use passbook for bits. Really positive reaction from everything that saw it when I checked in boarded etc. I was surprised at the amount of conversation it started. Near enough all the people said "thats the first time I've seen 'The Watch' " I thought it was unusual because I kind of assumed unless your an apple mark the launch has been reasonably low profile. There was only one terminal I tried to check in at where I couldn't use the watch as it was fixed to the desk.

An impressive display of sensitivity over a bloody watch. Don't worry Apple doesn't need more excuse makers telling stories and assuming things.

They have a brilliant marketing department that does quite well.. :)

Lol. More like a hate seeing people doing things that put them at risk simply because they don't understand what they're doing. But hey, rock on with your uneducated self and your tinfoil hat. You do you.

the other day I left my house without my wallet. I paid for some items at petco with the watch and then grabbed a starbucks frappacino and had them scan the watch at the drive thru for payment haha.

Used Apple Pay at Walgreens. The cashier scanned my Walgreens card off my watch, then I paid using Apple Pay. I had left my phone in the car as an experiment, and glad to see it still worked untethered.

Again used Apple Pay at a local store that had new contactless payment readers. It worked just as well.

So far, I am delighted with it, especially since I don't have Apple Pay on my iPhone 5.

I hope NFC/Contactless payment continues to spread. I like the idea of using it at gas pumps instead of futzing with my wallet on a dark and stormy night while worrying about skimmers on the pump terminals.

I don't have Apple Pay on my 5s (and I'm really looking forward to getting the next iPhone later this year). I was very excited to get the opportunity to use Apple Pay on my new Apple Watch.

Your experience sounds really cool! I'll have to walk to Walgreens tomorrow to try it out :D I haven't seen gas pumps, yet, that accept Apple Pay. With gas pricing being what it is, I look for lower prices first and, in the process, have neglected looking for Apple Pay compatible stations. I can see how useful that would be though.

Did you stick your arm into their drive through window at Star Bucks? ;)

Haha no they brought the scanner out like McDonald's brings the nfc reader out

I actually bought the Apple Watch to mostly have the ability to use Apple Pay easier. I'm a developer and we recently started having to deal with PCI compliance which meant a lot of reading and building token based systems. Ultimately I realized the benefit Apple Pay brought to the table and, luckily, a lot of local businesses started sticking NFC terminals around the area so I started using it almost everywhere I shop. The local bank put a huge billboard up that says NOW ACCEPTING APPLE PAY! They seem to be pushing it quite a bit for Debit cards.

I use it everywhere I can. A lot of places offer it. Even Coke machines which is nice if Im short on change :)

Or you know, you could be like me and get in the car one morning to go out of town for work. Your car is full of gas because you filled up last night knowing you were driving six hours the next day and leaving early. Your kids are screaming in the morning and you are running around getting your bag in the car and trying to help your wife. You leave your wallet on the counter and drive off as she is taking the kids to school and then her work.

You drive almost 4 hours away and your gas light comes on. You pull off the highway and up to a gas pump. You reach for your wallet in the side pocket where it always is and it's not there. You panic and search your whole car and every bag for 15 minutes. You have no gas and you are 4 hours from home, and 2 hours from your destination. You ask the cashier inside if you can give her a credit card number. She says no. You can't use Western Union because you have no ID because that is, of course, in your wallet. Then it dawns on you. You have an Apple Watch and an iPhone. You gas up the car and get a snack to boot because you have Apple Pay. You get a family member to start driving with your wallet and you meet them halfway back and get it.

Yes. No real world applications at all for Apple Pay. It's just trendy.

The sensitivity and deep emotional connection many have to Apple is the company's ace in the hole. Their belief in the almighty Apple causes them to assume, condemn others freedom of opinion, and praise Apple like the religion it is...very revealing.

Panera Bread. Walgreens. Starbucks.
It's funny going to Starbucks because I "hand" them my wrist and they are expecting cash or a CC but my hands are empty. It's funny to see their puzzling face until they realize I'm trying to pay with the watch. And some say "whoa that's cool!" Some don't say anything but have the "whoa that's cool" look in their face.

And the Story Goes on

And then, suddenly you hear a siren. You glance in your rear view mirror and see flashing lights. As the officer pulls you over and asks for your ID, you fumble around, as if you're looking for your wallet with your driver's license and come up empty. You breathe a sigh of relief and show the officer your Apple Watch. He forgets that he asked you for your license and becomes mesmerized with your Apple Watch. Chalk up one for dodging a bullet

I used Apple Pay on the iPhone 6 at Lowe's foods and several gas stations, I believe BP's back in September. Now they've turned them off.

I can't wait till Current C finally dies so I can use it more places. Virtually everywhere I go has an NFC scanner that's turned off. That's just dumb.

BP is an Apple Pay partner, I doubt they turned it off.

Where you use watch and Apple Pay

Just so much misinformation in Whatos' posts, it's not worth refuting in this thread. Anyone who cares to know the truth can easily find good information from many independent sources.
