I work at a fairly large university campus and they've upgraded to wireless payment terminals this summer. So far I haven't seen a terminal that doesn't support Apple Pay! I must be one of the only people around with Apple Watch because I keep blowing people's minds when I pay with my watch. It's just so ridiculously handy!

My odd anecdote. Live in Atlanta and don't eat fast food but went to Panera Bread to buy a loaf o bread just to try out. Told that only the lunch registers take :apple:Pay. Next I go to Home Depot (store across the street from HQ) and find their system is being updated and :apple:Pay is off line for now.

I go visit my dad this weekend in a tiny town Reidsville (pop 2500). He needs something from the store and I go to a Harvey's and get to the register and notice NFC. I ask casher and he was 100% clueless. I stuck it up there and it worked. However it made the process MUCH longer since everyone in line had several questions about what just happened.

Odd that wan't able to use :apple:Pay in a big city but go to the "middle of nowhere" and it works.:D
I love your story.

Ok, if you're under duress it doesn't matter. Even if this issue weren't there whoever was putting The gun to your head would just ask you your PIN and you would give it to them.

Asleep? Really? If you're falling asleep someplace where you don't trust the other people there not to steal your stuff, then you have bigger problems. Plus they could just steal your wallet.

I have yet to see an argument regarding this flaw that didn't boil down to the fact that just stealing your wallet is lots easier.

If you'll read one of my comments up above, I said pretty much the same thing.

I suppose the falling asleep scenario I had in mind was on a bus, train, or plane, which isn't exactly uncommon. Of course, most people would feel it being removed and wake up, sure. Well, unless you were passed out drunk, perhaps, but as you said, you would have other problems in that case.

Again - this is not PRACTICAL.. Merely POSSIBLE.

Ok, now that we understand each other better I think it's time to put the whole theft thing to bed.

And now that I've had an Apple Watch since Thursday, and can use Apple Pay for the first time (I have a 5S), I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. I'm also not surprised.

The frustration started with trying to add my cards. I was certain that I would be ready to go, since I know that Chase was one of the very first banks to support it. Turns out they support it for all of their cards EXCEPT their United Mileage cards. WTF? Thankfully I have other cards I can use with it, but I don't understand how Apple can tout support from a certain bank, when not all the cards from that bank will work.

Next, I've been noting tons of stores in my area that have contactless readers and display the catactless payment logo. Now that I can actually make use of them I learn that ALL of them are broken. Either that or the clerk doesn't know how to use them. McDonald's was the most disappointing. Went to the drive-thru and learned that the reader is bolted to the wall inside. Not exactly useful.

I did go to Whole Paycheck once and used it there. It was a quick experience, and I can see how the system has potential. I just don't see how Apple is really going to get vendors to care, let alone their minimum wage employees.

As it currently stands, I know of one vendor that Apple CLAIMS to accept Apple Pay that I shop at twice a month (PetCo). I say claims, because my experience so far is that this whole thing is a giant crap shoot, and I have zero faith that it will actually work when I get around to going there.

I've just used it my local hospital's vending machines. I'm daily driving the Moto X phone with the Apple Watch nowadays. I got so excited to see an NFC vending machine for the first time, that I tested Apple Pay on my Watch and Google Wallet on my phone. Both went through without issues. It's very nice that I did not have to have my iphone with me for Apple Pay to work. I'm glad for that, as again I normally use the Moto X.

I've used my watch to pay at Trader Joe's a couple of times and really liked the experience. I think it's the biggest smile I get out of the watch so far, with taking a phone call in the car a close second. Last night I used it at Trader Joe's -- scanned, pressed credit, concurred with the amount, and then the cashier said with a stunned look on his face, "What'd you just do?" Loved it.

I have my Chase United card in Apple Pay.

I've had good experiences with Apple Pay, and they are improving all the time. The Watch is the icing on the cake.

Adding my three cards (Capital One, Regions, and PNC) to the Watch was simple. Paying has been easy - rarely do I have to "teach" the cashier how to do it anymore ("Ring it as a credit sale.."). It's much easier to hold the Watch out the window at the McD drive through, I never did feel great about two-finger holding the iPhone out the window. Vending machines are more and more supporting contactless payments around me, especially in malls, airports, and the like.

I use it mainly at the usual suspects:

McD
Panera
Walgreens
Vending machines
Subway (where I still sometimes have to "help the help" since the machines usually sit on the cashier's side)

I do use it at Winn-Dixie, Home Depot, Staples, and more - just not as often.

Tried it at Home Depot last night, and it didn't work even though the reader displayed the contactless payment logo. Could my problem be that I always try to use the self-check stations?

Home Depot is redoing the terminals (or backend, or whatever) in many of the stores, and consequently, it works in some and not in others. I have made an Apple Pay payment at a self-checkout, but at another store it didn't work at all.
