I've just now realized that sometimes it wakes IMMEDIATLY... But other times it takes forever, like I mentioned in the first post. I can't figure out a pattern either. Turning off/on Wi-fi doesn't seem to change anything. I really REALLY hope it's the OS, and not my machine, because 1. I got the Samsung SSD and screen. 2. It's a long drive to my nearest Apple Store...

EDIT: We're not alone https://discussions.apple.com/message/15813792#15813792

I'm also gonna add videos to the first post.

personally, im on my 3rd exchange here in Germany since the release of the mid 2011 model of the 13- i5 128ssd.
My first machine was instant on. I sent it back b/c i received a toshiba / lg combo.
i returned my second one b/c, because of the exact same problem you mention (slow wake up from sleep). that one was a toshiba ssd/ samsung screen. I do think it could be related to samsung screens only.
im guessing that when you turn on your unit from sleep then screen is black (meaning its on) but with no entrance screen for a few seconds.
let me know.

hoping my new machine brings the samsung ssd, and best of the two screens. personally i think the screen resolution thing is a matter of taste per region. in europe most of the screens in the stores are lg. in the states, samsung. consumer pref. might be involved, but then again dont know.

one more thing, make sure in system pref. that under start up disk. your mac drive is 100 selected. this is macs solution to the problem in the past.
but yes, i do agree with the boards that different sleep modes could also be effecting this situation.

I have the LG screen and occasionally get the issue. It's a software or firmware bug. It will be fixed. Relax. The 2010s had a far worse issue when they first came out, and it was resolved through a firmware update.

despite all the comparisons between 2010 MBAir with C2Duo processors and nvidia graphics versus 2011 MBAir with core i5 or i7 and Intel HD3000 graphics - could be me but I reckon the 2010 Air was snappier in basic functions (awake from sleep, startup times, overall responsiveness) and when upgraded to Lion was only minor-ly slower.

the 2011 Air with Lion is noticeably sluggish, in my opinion.

for all the extra horsepower, Lion seems to be the dog in the pack.

hopefully 10.7.1 will sort this out.

and the 2011 Airs ship with a different (later) version of Lion than is available in the App Store.
ergo, one can't download Lion and make a startup usb stick but are totally reliant on the internet for any rebuild.

kinda sucks if you live out in the bush away from a net connection.

it also means that despite the theory one can make a Lion startup usb stick from a legally purchased copy, in reality you can't

That's about what I was getting on my 2010 MacBook Air with Snow Leopard. The Lion/2011 update seems to have sped it up a bit which I attribute to a bug either in the OS or the firmware. My guess is that it is losing most of the power in the time before it goes into deep sleep. It dropped an alarming 8% in 12 hours on me once, but usually drops about 2-4% if I unplug it in the morning when I leave for work and check it when I get back home about 12 hours later. Hopefully this is on Apple's list of bugs to fix.

Yeah, I've seen similar posts about people losing more battery than expected since the switch to Lion/new Airs...I'm sure it's a bug. I agree that we're probably losing most of the % up front, before it goes into full standby. I also regularly experience a slight delay in waking from sleep - typically on par with my 2009 Pro. I expected it to be quite a bit faster, but again, from what I'm reading, it may be a bug...

Apple is too busy with the IOS crap to bother about fixing all issues with Lion....When they dropped computer from their title, they really meant it... This problem and other niggling faults is just disappointing... Lion is beta software, even when having the new Air to showcase it.

My new 13" Air takes forever to get off of sleep. I swear it takes longer than my 2010 MacBook Pro 13" but I don't have it anymore so I can't compare.

...

I just tested and it took 7 seconds after opening the lid for the screen to come back... Is this normal? Is this Lion's fault?

I'd like to hear your thoughts and experiences! Thanks

After watching your videos it's pretty clear that I am also having this issue. Looks like a software issue.

Hi,

I fully charged (battery at 100%) my MBA 13" (2011) last night and put it to sleep after unplugging it, both Bluetooth and WiFi were 'on'. I opened the the unit this morning after it being in sleep mode for 7 hours. The screen still came on after 2 seconds. I should note that the track pad was not active for another 2 seconds (4 seconds total). The battery life registered at 98%, a decrease of 2%. I have yet to experience that long delay from sleep that has been described (I may be jinxing myself by saying that).

As previously stated, this 13" maxed out unit was received new direct from Apple about 2 days ago and its contents were migrated from my iMAC (2010). The 256 G SSD is approximately half full with data. Lastly both the screen and the SSD are Samsung.

Regards,

Joe

Agreed - it's not screen related. I've seen it with each type of screen. Keep in mind we have new hardware and new software here - Apple will get these things sorted soon enough.

My trackpad does that too.. It's inactive for a bit after waking. It kinda sucks :/

Just opened this lid again after 7 hours of additional sleep (unplugged). Battery went from 98% to 96% during that time. The screen still came on after 2 seconds with the track pad taking an additional 2 seconds.

New 13inch Mac Air and i notice a delay as well.
My screen lights up almost instantly, but it takes a several seconds for the cursor to respond....is this similar to what other are experiencing?

(Also QT seems a bit choppy and has trouble playing several windows at once.)

Mine is basically instant on...cant remember what it was before 10.7.1 though, but it was pretty fast

10.7.1 hasn't fixed it for me.

Just as slow as ever :/ Again, I'm using a 2011 MacBook Air 13" i5

Darnnit.

I used to have this problem, but I updated to 10.7.1 and the problem is now solved (or so it seems). :)

10.7.1 seemed to fix it. There is still around a second delay before everything works, but far from the 10 or so seconds that it was on 10.7.

Yep.

10.7.1 didn't really fix it for me.

Went to open up my laptop today and the login screen was on and ready to go before the screen was in it's upright position.

Try SmartSleep Waking up from hibernate always takes some time. It's a little Tool which watches how much juice you still have left and sets the sleep mode to suspend to ram or hibernate. Mine wakes instantly from Suspend to Ram.
Oh, that version still seams to be the one with Problems with Lion, get it from http://www.jinx.de/SmartSleep.html
