Are you suggesting that AppleTVs don't have Ethernet? They do.
All of them do not have Ethernet.

I think one of the "issues" with the Apple TV is that it just keeps on working. I feel no compelling need at all to update/upgrade my ATV, as it provides the smarts I need.
If they bricked it, I'd likely get a Google Streamer with AirPlay built in for half the price or less. Or I'd get an old-stock or used ATV.

I gave mine back since I barely watch TV but I wanted to test it. My Sony TV can handle opening Netflix etc. Was it better than the build in Google TV? Yes it was. Was it 169€ better? No. I had buyers remorse and not wanting more cables and another box collecting dust. My TV is from 2021 and still works fine. Apple needs to offer more now to sale more Apple TVs or lower the price.

Internet: Apple should stop yearly product updates, there’s no point.

Also internet: Why isn’t Apple updating this product more frequently???

Nobody is saying they shouldnt update products every year. The are saying they sandbag thier offerings. They want INCREMENTAL upgrades to keep you in the money funnel. And its bullsh*t. BTW, its been 5 years for the little black box... not quite the same thing now is it. Upgrade the f'n chip as you can - doens't need to be a big relaunch. And nobody uses Siri on the AppleTV... lame excuse.

I wish at this point Apple would jump more into gaming with the Apple TV given that I can nicely pair my gaming remote to it already. Especially if they went the route of what Wii Sports had, couch co-op games like bowling and tennis.

This was always a "side project" I can see it getting discontinued and the Home Hub ipad /Homepod being a new "project"...
Apple TV was first released when TVs were not capable of much. Now it basically is a fancier version of opening streaming apps which all TVs do. They need to reinvent it or I believe it won’t last long.

I think Apple has a new Apple TV ready, but that it is all about 8K. We’ve had 3 4K ATVs now, so no need for another one. Latest rumors suggested that Apple wasn’t happy with 8K video recording on the iPhone 16 and the new Apple TV rumors are from that time already. No mention of 8K video recording on the iPhone 17 either, so my guess is that Apple will launch an 8K-ready Apple TV along the iPhone 18 (Pro) and maybe a refreshed 4K model with a more efficient chip for people who don’t need that.

New Apple TV: Where is it?

It's not coming.

Well, it is, but you're looking in the wrong place.

Apple renamed Apple TV+ to just Apple TV, adding to the brand confusion between the service, the app and the box — all with the same name. I believe the Apple TV (the box) is being rethought to have its functions integrated into Apple's broader Home strategy.

What we currently know now as a TV box will be integrated into the new HomePods running homeOS. Every HomePod in your home will be capable of running the tvOS front end, AirPlayed wirelessly to any TV in any room.

While not every TV has AirPlay, virtually every brand of TV in the last 5 years has sold with or retroactively added support for AirPlay. Older TVs will have the last gen Apple TV or Apple may sell an AirPlay Stick.

Steve Jobs speaking about the Apple TV at All Things D said that it's hard to compete with FREE. Cable companies and now ISPs offer these free TV boxes. I think Apple is about to solve that by building it into their most successful Home device that people actually do buy: the HomePod mini which already runs a variant of tvOS without the UI, audioOS soon to be renamed homeOS.

But then they need to offer a HomePod without Apple TV. Having Apple TV in all HomePods is just a waste of money and will inflate the price. Maybe they will just rename the box to HomeTV or HomeHub

Crap, I just wanted a simple ATV like we know and love without anything crazy to replace one that got stolen amongst a few other things at home (I live in Canada and I can’t protect myself).

This next one looks like a bit too much, will wait and see.

I know more people with an Apple TV than any version of HomePod.

"Apple TV" is just software. It's a previous year iPhone chip in a box running tvOS. HomePods already run a variant of tvOS called audioOS now being referred to as homeOS.

New HomePods will already have to have a more powerful chip in order to run Apple Intelligence so we'll likely see an A17 which is more than capable of running the current tvOS.

HomePods won't "have an Apple TV" they'll just run the front end like tvOS. Current generation HomePods already have an overpowered chip for devices that are only supposed to play audio. It's just factor of an economy of scale to offer the same chips that were made for iPhones whose R&D has already been paid off.
