Silver twice now. The gold looks nice but I thought it wouldn't match all my my bands. The black doesn't stand apart from the aluminium enough for me.
Especialy if you are thinking about the gray/black versions, I dont think that the SS black is so much nicer than the space gray alunimun.

The SS Black is way more scratch resistant.
That's for sure. I mean there is no significant difference between the two black models (compare to the difference in gold or silver Alum vs SS).

Damn I'm so jealous of y'all with the series 4, let alone the SS versions.
I love my recently bought black SS series 3, it's a lot more classy and discreet than the sg aluminum. Only thing sticking out like a sore thumb is that big red dot, which I'm waiting on my black dot sticker to arrive

I had a Silver Stainless Series 0 and intended to go with a Gold Stainless Series 4, but when I went into the store, they only had the Space Black so I went with it. Don't regret the decision for a few reasons:

1) As a Silver Stainless owner, I always appreciated the Space Black Stainless Series 1, 2 and 3.
2) I really like my lugs to match the case and it seems easier to find third-party black lugs that match than gold ones.
3) As to the above, there are Apple bands with black lugs like the Nike Hyper Grape Sport Loop (my current band) whereas the only one that is gold is the Milanese and I think the black one looks better.
5) I love the Apple Link Bracelet and that is not available in gold (outside of the special real-Gold ones Apple gave to select celebrities with gold Series 0 Edition watches). I know I could go third-party, but I prefer OEM bands.

All the above being said, I have seen the Gold Stainless and it is very nice. I might get one down the road to compliment my Black to wear for more formal occasions.

As for myself, I was not a fan of the matte finish on the aluminum compared to the glossy of the stainless. I also wanted a more scratch-resistant case and screen since I tend to knock my watch around.

Silver Team with Lavender Gray Sport Band :)

Has anyone purchased the Papaya Sport Band? I'd love to see how it fits the silver stainless steel :)

Silver!
Owned both and preferred the Silver over the SB as it provided so much more flexibility with band choices. The SB doesnt really go with much

I really do not know which color to buy. (Because of the fact that I do not have an Apple store it's a bit hard to get an impression based on photos only).

black - looks classic, clean and smooth looking. But it is not as noticeable as the other colors (Missing "wow effect" of 750$ watch) and Maybe less suitable to fit with other bands.

Silver - a bit boring (just as boring as the silver iPhone XS MAX).

Gold - very prestigious, Fancy and eye-catching.

I am upgrading from a series of 4, black-colored aluminum.

Well, I have way too many bands that only work with the Silver Stainless, so I had to get it. OTOH, with the right bands the Gold Stainless is just gorgeous ... Only possible solution:

A fair point, but I have been swapping the silver lugs of the Apple bands I have been buying with space black ones so they pair nicely with my SBSS.

Can't remember if I replied yet or not. I got black AND silver! The silver is activated on AT&T and I take it on runs and short errands without the phone. Pairs with almost any band well, and I have over 20. The black is not cellular activated (but I believe can still call 911), and I wear it vs the silver depending on dress. The Watch app allows easy switching back and forth. Silver has a few rubs on case, but screen is flawless. The whole black watch is flawless.

The main issue with space black is the band limitations. Not only it is very limiting as a color in general but any band with metal connectors is designed for the silver one.

Actually, complete opposite. I own the space black stainless, and I can pair literally any color I want and it doesn’t look abnormal. Anything from brown leather bands, to slate gray colors, various shades blues, ect. It’s All about being creative with the watch and pairing bands that you find unique, and the black stainless perception of not be able to pair bands is for those who haven’t tried experimenting with it.

Yes, once I have replaced the silver lugs with space black ones so the band blends into the watch body itself, the buckle hardware is still silver as opposed to space black, but frankly that doesn't really bother me on my Black and Red Classic Buckles nor my Hermes Single Tour.

And with the leather loops and sport bands, it doesn't matter because the band ends are the same color as the band itself so it (generally) wouldn't match whether you had silver, space black or gold. And in some cases, the ends are black (like on my Nike Hyper Grape Sport Loop and Woven Nylon Black and Grey) so they work better with the Space Black then the Silver. :)

I really like the look of the black stainless steel and I wear a lot of black, but the regular stainless steel has more band options (from Apple, who make the best bands) and looks better with professional outfits. It also stands out – in a good, jewellery way. If you like the milanese loop band, there's no question which watch looks better with it.

I had the silver Stainless Series 0 and I agree it looked good, but I find my SBSS looks as good with my dress shirts (especially with the Apple link bracelet, which is my normal band), but then I tend to favor blacks, grays and whites so it compliments them. For more primary colors (pinks, yellows and blues) I agree the Silver probably matches better.

I do agree the Milanese looks best in silver, but I like the black, as well. Not as much a fan of it in gold.

I also like the SBSS because the glass just seamlessly blends into the case. You really can't tell where they meet unless you hold it up really close.

I wear suits daily to work and the Silver SS offered much more flexibility in that regard. With that being said the Space Black went well with more casual fair but so did the SS and it’s flexibility.

I have the black SS. I had the original watch in regular SS... I love the black... matches good.. with black lol. And the white/black nike band. I also have a good leather band that looks awesome... besides those 3.. I feel any other band looks better on the silver SS.. Colors, leathers, basically anything not black. Lmao

gold, as a male, i think would be dope with a gold band. But I don’t think I would like mix and matching with it

Another way to look at it:

Silver, otherwise known as polished SS, is most traditional for a watch, especially a sport-orientated watch, like a diver. Somehow IMHO does not quite look right on an AW. Perhaps because the AW is not a watch at all: t's a wrist device, that among other features tells time.

Gold is most polarizing. Gold-tone, not as popular as polished SS, is, when used, found on "dress" or fashion watches. Perhaps this is because in the more distant past, gold watches used real gold. In more modern times, due to gold costs, just about all gold watches in the last 50 -70 years are really gold color, not real gold. Perhaps because of that, on anything less than a $20,000 watch, a gold equaled "fake" or tacky.

I think today gold does not mean gold the metal, but rather gold as simply a color. Being older, I wouldn't be caught dead in a gold watch, because to me I would never wear a fashion or dress watch. But I think it looks good on an AW.... just not one on me.

SBSS DLC. While black watches often can look cool, especially military style watches, I've never owned one. Mostly because of practicality: they are less flexible where they can be worn, and black is a coating that can (and does) wear off. Looks bad when the SS under is exposed, IMHO. The Apple coating is newer tech and more fused, and harder than traditional coatings. I think it looks good on an AW, but the Apple back rubber

Color is subjective, so really no one can answer for anyone else. At the end of the day, all that matters is what strikes your fancy.

One good thing about an AW not being a watch: as a piece of tech, it's like your iPhone. A real watch costs thousands of dollars and lasts a life time ... or more: all it does is tell time. An AW you replace like a phone: it's out dated after a year, and unable to keep up with the latest tech after a few years. So, you get to try another color every few years.

So... which do you like? You listed cons for each one more than pros...

Exactly!
