Unlimited for $30 and text plan of 1000 for $10. Had the $5 dollar one for 200 but after a while, kept paying .10 x the extra text messages to the point I once paid a little over 15 dollars a couple of times. Figured just pay $5 bucks more and be safe. I had also heard AT&T was raising individual text messages from .10 to .20 cents and that made me jump to it. This was pre iMessage.

First off, if this thread is already lurking around, link me to it.

I had unlimited data about 2 years ago, and the shmuck at the AT&T store told me i'm paying alot for data when i'm only using about 1gb. So he switched me to the 2GB plan.

Now my iPhone 4 was never a problem with data usage. Now with the iPhone 5 i'm almost scared to use safari/pandora. It uses so much data that i'm at 2gb in 12 days. I know that's not alot to some people, but when you send NO e-mails and are on safari for maybe 10 minutes a day, and play roughly 5 songs on pandora that's rough.

I've turned off LTE for the past week and the data keeps flowing. Does anyone anticipate an iOS update fixing this problem?

Thanks in advance for any opinions
They don't do this willynilly without your consent. You made that choice.

I'm on the 450min/1000sms/2GB plan.

I use 300-500MB/month.

This month, with the iPhone 5, I'm running high, I'm on track to hit 800MB. But it's a new toy and I've been using it a little more. I expect this to drop back off to my normal range.

The iPhone5 only uses as much data as you request. It's amazing how many people, tech nerds, on an internet board, can't grasp data usage.

Unlimited data
1000 texts
450 voice

I have this too. Love it because my actual phone call usage is pretty much minimal, my texting is in the 500-700 range per month, but my data usage is off the charts since i'm not home much and my office wifi signal doesn't reach to my office.

I have the grandfathered unlimited plan still.

Based on what you said your usage is, I find it hard to see why you'd be at 2GB so quickly. Having LTE on or off won't have much impact on your data usage, unless you're consuming more data, such as HD video content over LTE.

My suggestion is to try and use WiFi whenever you can to limit your cellular data usage.

Grandfathered in, I wish we had the option to buy another 1GB for $10 if we go over cause being throttled sucks but 5GB should be enough for me. But then again that wouldn't make sense since we're technically "unlimited".

Im grandfathered as well, had this plan since '05

Its the family plan, so i also got the $30 unlimited text/mms/unlimited mobile to mobile plan.

Lol shouldn't have changed plans is basically my bottom line. Deleting the YouTube app with iOS 6 made things different as well like stated before about the hd video. Between loading YouTube on safari then actually watching a video it uses a lot more data than the old app.

my wife and i use 1.5GB at most between the most of us. wifi at home. wifi at work for me.

and we are not digital couch potatoes

I just went back to AT&T for the 5 and I have 450 min/No SMS/3GB data. I have my number with Google Voice so I don't need texting and when I'm home I use Talkatone so I still have my GV number and I can call for free and not use my minutes. Been working great so far.

Unlimited Internet, I love not having to worry about going over my cap. Though I have not went over 3gb until this month when I have no Internet at my apartment. There is also fast wifi at my college so I don't really need unlimited but it's nice to have.

Unlimited since 08 on original 3g. I intend to keep the unlimited for as long as i can. Att tried to move to tired numerous times and almost got me to do it once, i then came to my sense. There used to be loophole where you could switch to a 2g iphone and you could get back on unlimited when att phased them out.

Thats exactly how I got my unlimited data back in Feb 2010, the old 2g iPhone trick.

thank you ATT!!!

Unlimited data pick-your-plan pre-pay data plan from the original iPhone. I'm using it with the iPhone 5. The down side is they won't let me access LTE. Prepaid plans are blocked from using the LTE network.

Let me re-phrase this. Since my post wasn't very clear. Why would my new phone use more data then my old iPhone 4, while using less features (safari, pandora, etc). I used to stream pandora for about an hour a day, and watch probably 30 minutes worth of youtube on my 4 and had no issue. Usually not passing much over a gig a month.

So since some people are breaking my balls about my first post, if you know the answer, explain to me why the new phone uses more data based on what I just said. File sizes don't magically get bigger when your on a different network so I'm lost

The phone doesnt use more data. You do.
We went from 5 songs to about an hour of pandora now and 10 minutes of browsing to 30 minutes of youtube etc...
Keep going, you're using up more data that's all. The phone doesnt just suck up data on its own.

Re-Read what i said. I said on my iPhone 4 I did about an hour of Pandora and 30 minutes of YouTube. You attempt to "show me up" but you fail.

I get your point. But you failed at the attempt to insult.

I dont need to show you up or insult you. Im trying to help you understand that you are just using more data that's all.
If you dont want to understand that then that's up to you.
Its not something wrong with the phone or anything that needs an update or a fix. You're just using it more and with faster speeds you use up more data, people tend to browse and access more, faster and with higher quality video and audio streaming.
It doesnt rack up 2GB's in 12 days on its on. Im on unlimited LTE data plan and in 16 days I used 163mb. And I use my iphone plenty on and off wifi.
Notice how it didnt suck down 2GB's of data on its own?

Understood. Do programs running in background still connect to the network? I.e safari while im playing a game (that's not using Internet).

Unlimited from June 07 on iPhone (been with a variant of Ma Bell on an unlimited plan in one corporate form or another for 26 years (Cellular One, PacBell, PacTel, Airtouch, ATTWS, Cingular,ATT)) and so far, unthrottled too.

Have never gone over 2 GB until this month- iTunes Match has consumed more than 5 GB of data due to its "hidden" streaming behavior.

Didn't realize it was doing this until I looked at my usage. Then decided to download my playlist contents to the device rather than stream. Glad I went with 64GB!

There's gotta be something.
Do you use iTunes Match, iCloud, picture uploads photo stream, do you have diagnostics send to apple automatically? Contacts, calendars, notes turned on with iCloud?
