It seems to work on some cbrs and not others :(
BUT, it also appears to be a known bug that will be fixed in the next update according to the comments on their site.

Bookman updated this week, and took care of the CBR problem. There's still one or two small things I'd like to see done with it, bu it's become pretty much THE CBR/CBZ reader for iPad, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm in the Bookman club myself.

When the CBR issues were going on, I used applications on my computer to convert them to CBZs. No problems since.

Would like to see them improve the quality when at various zoom levels.

For example, doing a landscape view of a landscape page, its blurry. But if you do a portrait view of a landscape page, its sharp. And yes, the page is sharp if you zoom in on either. It's just their programming for image quality when zooming.

I'll be writing them a support message here soon.

They aren't great on english, but they seem to be responsive to messages, which is always a big plus in my book. :)

I mentioned this in the other CBR/CBZ thread. . .

I stumbled on a program in the AppShopper app, Bookman.

It's great so far. It has shelfs...and multiple ones...for organizing. Has both tap and slide page advancements.

So far, it's the best free cbr/cbz app I've found.

I just migrated all of my stuff to this app. Like it alot. I like how it looks like iBooks. It handled all of my cbr/cbz's without a hitch. I have found that it doesn't like some of my pdf files. So I have to reload them in and then the files work fine.

Cloud Reader Problem

People,

I use Cloud Reader and from time to time i get certain CBRs or even entire batches of CBRs which simply open in Cloud Reader as a BLANK page? (the CBRs open fine on a PC though)

Any idea how to fix this?
I don't getting a Paid App to read my comics - just hate it when i'm lying in bed preparing to read - and i get blank pages...............

I haven't yet.

But I'd really like it if they had a better file system setup than the damned bookshelves.

Comic Book Lover has been the choice for me. I can manage and retag my comics with its Desktop applications, and sync/transfer files from it to the iPad retaining the tags so I can organize comics the way I feel best (title, series, arc etc..)
Best part is its free. Comic Reader Mobi was nice to until it got pulled for various reasons. Since I can end up putting in upwards of 100 comics at a time on my iPad i like the no-shelf approach these two apps use.

I don't get all the praise for Bookman. The refresh between pages is horrible. I'll stick with ComicZeal for now

Bit of a highjack here....

To all the Cloud Reader fans, has anyone figured out how to delete tags? Can't seem to find out or figure out how to do that. :(

Thanks all.

Im more of a Manga reader. Silly questions as more of my manga are in png format, but none of these comic book readers would have a problem with other file types not CBZ/CBR?

The animated panel-by-panel view that the Marvel Comics app has blew me away. All the other comic apps doesn't have this, and I couldn't read a comic on an iDevice without the feature anymore.

Which is sad, because I don't even like Marvel comics. :(

Without a doubt the best app is ComicZeal. Well worth the 7.99 it costs. It's the best app for keeping your comics organized too. I absolutely love it. There are a couple of things that I wish they would fix (like the ability to rename comics from within the app) and apparently the developer is hard at work at making another huge update to comiczeal. I posted on his board the other day and he responded that there should be a new update soon. Most of the suggestions being made were going to be incorporated in the update. Apparently it's going to be as big or bigger than the last one. I think one of the features was importing from dropbox but I'm not sure.

Regardless, in it's current state, this is still the absolute best apps on the ipad. I love it.

awesome news about the update. comiczeal is far and away my most used app so far

ComicGlass > ComicZeal

I vote ComicGlass as my current favorite comic book app, topping ComicZeal. It has more features and takes native cbr/cbz, as opposed to Zeal converting everything into its own proprietary format. This results in CG having much faster page turns of hires comics and less initial loading time. CG also has a bookshelf view and support for transferring files from a web server or NAS.

Here's a thread on AV forums where they compare ComicGlass vs. ComicZeal:

Supposedly ComicGlass is the #1 comic book app in Japan. The best part about it... Only $1.99. :D

You and me both. I am hoping apple gives us a central place to load up all these files and then allow us to browse within an app to the location so we don't have to worry about loading them up in different apps. Put them all in one location and let us pick the app to open them up with.

I get around this by using the FileBrowser app to mount an external USB drive connected to my airport extreme, making it a low-rent wireless file server.

I then browse to my comics folder in FileBrowser, hit the "Open With" option, and ComicGlass is offered as a choice. The comic file is then opened/copied to ComicGlass and I'm reading. As I read issues, I just delete them off my iPad. I think of the wireless USB drive as my library, helps keep pleny of space open on the iPad itself.

FileBrowser can do this will many other file types and apps, btw.

I only have bookman so far, but can't stand how i cant organize them besides having them on bookshelves. I wish I can click a folder just for my X-men comics, another folder for Superman, etc.

Is this in the app store? I did a search and I couldn't find it. Is this a JB iPhone app?

Just downloaded and configured. It is great. Think I just found my second favorite program!!!! Thanks for the recommendation!!

Yes it is that good of a program. Worth the four dollars!

Glad to hear that... I do believe it will work with Bookman and other comic apps too, as you've probably discovered, somehow it can detect what file types open with which installed apps.

As far as I know, FileBrowser is the only app that works so seamlessly with an Airport Extreme USB disk. I always wondered why Apple didn't have a native client for iPads to access AE disks ("AirDisks"). But FileBrowser takes care of that!
