iPhone 4 FTW....

I didn't like it at all when I seen pics & vids of it, but once in my hand it just felt & looked much better than the 3GS. Feels much better in my pocket too.

I preferred my 3G, but left it outside in the rain and killed it forcing me to upgrade to the iPhone 4, which I've had for several months now.

Today while looking for some tape I ran across my dead 3G in a desk drawer and it felt horrible in my hand. I'm accustomed to the 4 now and I much prefer it.

The 4 by a huge, huge margin. I hated the curved back on the 3G when it was announced, I hated it when the 3GS kept it, and I hated it when it was withdrawn. Good riddance.

iPhone 4 by a MASSIVE LONG mile.... In fact I ditched my 3GS because it was too fat! So the 4th gen one is perfect IMO, perfect size screen for a touch screen phone, perfect thickness too. Could loose a bit on the top and bottom though??

I'll say this - I had a 3GS for about 2 weeks before exchanging it for the 4 and the two were like night and day. The 3GS was a bit more comfortable in my hand, but the 4 just felt more solid and refined. I had a friend who had a 3G with a cracked plastic back and we decided to replace that. I've taken apart a number of Apple products (including the loathsome iBook G3), but the 3G/3GS design is just a hassle when it comes to lining everything up (he never could get the silence switch to fit right). Since everything fits around the center frame on the 4, I'd assume that it would be a tad easier to take apart if one were inclined.

iPhone 4 looks better and feels better in the hand.

I could understand why you'd prefer the 3GS design though.

iPhone 4, for sure. I love it. It feels so much more solid and less like a toy. The 3G/3GS was my favorite design on a phone up until the iPhone 4 though. The iPhone 4 just stepped it up to a whole new level though.

The iPhone 4 is sexier. I give it that but the 3GS, with it's rounded back is more comfortable to hold.

But I like the design of the iPhone 4 & the thinness that feels great in the hands so iPhone 4 design is far superior.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

3GS. Only because I do not qualify for an update until the iPhone probably will be available

TS, I'm intrigued on your definition of retro, could you elaborate? I don't think the 3GS is considered retro in design...

It doesn't use ALL STAINLESS STEEL AND GLASS

I don't know, I mean, it looks like it goes with the PreUnibody MacBook Pros and since those are older it looks a little bit more retro, but at the same time futuristic.

It might be also be because it's what it looked like before, kinda like comparing an iMac 24" to a 27", the 24" looks older, doesn't it?

Bleh, I'm rambling again.

Add a poll to this thread!

I like the 4 better. It's funny because whenever I see a 3G now it just feels like such a cheap piece of plastic -- something that I thought was the most incredible piece of technology ever one year ago.

I honestly prefer the 3GS's design a lot more, I don't know why. I just kinda like how it looks a bit retro but still retains a futuristic look. If I could have a 3GS with the retina display and front facing camera, I would take it in a heartbeat. Am I the only one?

3 GS is tougher, and, that is important to me. The 3 GS is still very current and functional. But, the "retina display" is really nice.

theyre both about the same. Were talking a couple of millimeters here or there. Big deal ....

I prefer the 3Gs form factor but aside from the attenna issue, the iP4 is great IMHO.

I'm waiting for a case maker to produce a Fake Out 3Gs case. Similar to the case Apple used to disguise iP4 prototypes

I think the iPhone 4 looks classier, but I'm not a fan of the glass back, which essentially doubles the chances that a fall will result in a crack, nick, break, etc.

Ditto.

Battery in the 4 is pretty rubbish too imo.

Glass back and battery is making me go off the iPhone, especially now that everyone has one. 2-3 years ago I was the only one in my office with one, now 1 in 4 people have one.

If Apple implement the built-in sim function next year I will probably not bother with another iPhone, as the network operators are bound to try and tie owners into a contract even when purchased unlocked.

Why do people ask questions that would be better answered in a poll that can give you upfront info on how many answered one way or the other (I just complain cause I'm curious which more prefer but don't want to have to read every single response and manually tally it up to see).

And honestly, I'm not sure which I prefer. I'd say iphone 4 but I think just my love of the phone overall is coloring my bias there (I had a 3G and the 4 is a far better iphone :) ).

I think I'd say 4 anyways cause while maybe the 3G/3GS fit in your hand better (I hardly notice really, which one fit in my hand better seems to be so small a difference to me I'd have to compare them back to back to see which I preferred), I use it more as my computer away from my computer and it sits on a desk better without rocking when I am hitting parts of the screen.

I think my roommate would answer the 3G/3GS for form factor (he agrees the 4 is a better iphone overall) because the form of the 3G slipped in his pocket better (one of his big mandatory things for a phone in general is how well it goes into his pocket and is unnoticeable while being there. Mine goes in my purse so that's not a huge deal to me).
