Devices supported for iOS 8 CONFIRMED:
  • iPad 2
  • iPhone 4s
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 5c
  • iPod Touch 5
  • iPad with Retina Display (iPad 3 / 4)
  • iPad Air
  • iPad mini
  • iPad mini with Retina

So I was right. If any A5 device is getting 8, so would every-device else, including iPad 2. :)

It just wouldn't make sense for Apple to drop iPad 2 iOS support.

So, they cut the iPhone 4 (makes sense) and kept all of the A5 devices. The wording with "iPad with Retina Display" is weird; it's not clear as to whether that is third and fourth generations or just fourth (as it wouldn't be just third).

iOS 8 is gonna run like crap on these A5 devices, especially the iPad 2 and first generation iPad mini.

iPad 3 however doesn't look like it would get it...but that's because it's a poorly designed iPad.

System performance between the iPad 2 and third generation iPad are similar enough that them dropping the third generation is odd.

Everything still being sold by Apple will receive an update. Plus the iPad 3 and 4. The iPhone 4 will not receive an update.

Well technically the iPad 3 is also called "iPad with Retina Display" or "iPad". So it may get it.

iPad 3 is not being sold by Apple. You must be thinking of iPad 4.
