For me, it's a tough choice. Futurama has the story, setting, and characters, but Family Guy has the hilarious humor.

As much as I love Family Guy, in the end I think I would have to choose Futurama. It's less funny, but it has more substance to it than FG.

Which do you think is better?

Personally, I'm the opposite. Love Family Guy, find Futurama to be extremely boring honestly.

Sure, the plots and shenanigans of Family Guy may overlap but every single episode makes me laugh.

Futurama... As though I can always predict what's coming next. I can find the humor in virtually anything but Futurama really just... it just really doesn't work out.

Agreed. If you want to laugh, Family Guy is much better, and is obviously the best for the humor aspect alone. But at the same time, Futurama has its own atmosphere. I'm not sure about the newer ones, but many of the older ones were pretty good.

I myself dislike the Simpsons, and find some of that "Simpsons" humor in Futurama. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I really like the humor in Family Guy, but some of the Futurama episodes I've seen have had their own likability, not really for the humor, but just the story and characters.

IMO Futurama leaves a certain lasting impression that Family Guy does not. I'm only talking about the classic episodes, not the newer ones (as I haven't seen that many of them).

FG always really makes me laugh, whereas Futurama only occasionally makes me giggle. But somehow I choose Futurama...

A tough choice? Over cartoons? I shudder to think how you deal with real life decisions.

I used to really like Futurama when I was younger but now I prefer Family Guy as it parodies many real-life events and I often understand the references. I also like it because it's just so random and ridiculous; the story in the beginning of each episode can be completely different at the end and there seems to be few limits that the show won't cross.

I've seen almost every episode and still love watching reruns and the show makes me laugh every time.

Futurama all the way: I absolutely cannot stand Family Guy. I'l admit, its first two or three seasons it was tolerable. But after it was cancelled and brought back, just instant crap. Most of the jokes rely on non-sequiturs and are hardly ever relevant to the plot. Speaking of plot, the absence of one is another large part of the show, and even when there is one...no sense, no sense at all.

Futurama on the other hand, does things just a bit differently. The plot isn't smashing, it's pretty much the same old animated sitcom stuff, but because of the setting and time period, you can't really call much that happens on the show ridiculous, so much as just simply a little random sometimes. It has much more of an emotional effect to it (Sort of in the way South Park does) than FG, and the humor is more sophisticated and actually takes half a brain to understand. :p

I'm more of an American Dad! and South Park sort of guy.

American Dad and South Park are also really funny. But South Park is sometimes so vulgar, it's ridiculous!

I think the thing differentiating Futurama from all these shows is the sci-fi theme. Without that aspect, the show would not be nearly as unique.

American Dad is definitely better than FG, I can actually enjoy watching it and it has some enormously funny moments.

Well, yeah, it's the whole point of the show. :p It does take a lot of Simpsons-esqe humor (Not surprising considering the creator of the show) But it has a brand of humor all it's own that fits just perfectly into the "year 3000" theme of the show.

Family Guy is slightly worse than Futurama, but I don't watch either one if I can help it. :) I'm a big Simpsons and Sponge Bob fan.

Futurama. Family Guy has its moments, but it tries too hard most of the time.

I love Spongebob! The older ones were so funny! Now they are a little boring and childish, but still funny.

Eventually any long running toon/series/tv show/etc is going to run out of material.

Very true.

I'm from a different generation perhaps. I don't find them funny, watched a couple of episodes on the tv, but would like to find them appealing.

I think the true test for laughter is Family Guy - I don't think I can get thru one without at least giggling.

These are important questions

Other big dilemas
1) Avengers vs Justice League?
2) Brady vs Manning?
3) Pirates vs Ninjas?
4) many many more

I will not rest until these are settled

I feel so foolish.

Clearly, you are right - these are truly the crucial questions of our time.

Thank you, duke, for opening my eyes to these issues. I, too, await anxiously and eagerly the answers.

I've always loved Futurama. Used to like Family Guy but it's just not got the depth of the other shows I like (South Park, Futurama). Was cool when I was a teen but I like a little bit more now.

There's too much repetition in Family Guy. Every other episode is about Brian finding another girl and it going wrong. We get it.
