No problem with lightning, just waiting for the adapters to show up in stores. Specifically Best Buy, so I can get those Reward Zone Points!! I wish Apple offered something like that.

I don't mind apple maps at all. I am glad to have Turn-by-Turn if I need it. Also, I have owned an iPhone since July of 2007, and I have never searched for a location in Maps by typing in the name of it. I always type in the address, if I don't know it, I get it from safari first.

Therefore, Apple Maps hasn't bothered me at all. Plus, I only need directions to someone's house here in StL for the most part.

It was fun trying to find my car in the satellite images of my area. Found it sitting in front of my GF's house.

If I am traveling, I have my Garmin with me because it is much better than any phone's GPS service.

I see nothing wrong with the Lightening cable, besides having to spend $100+ on new cables and adaptors (for two people). A better blunder comparison would have been scuffgate vs mapsgate.

Here's an idea, go buy one of those phones.
Here is an idea, dont troll with nothing to contribute except your holding of a imperfect piece of technology as something perfect. ok? :). Apple has made plenty of mistakes.

The rest of us are having a sober discussion.

The iphone, like all smartphones, has downsides, of a variety of importance to a variety of users. It also has upsides. good luck with your impressions you have a perfect product.

I travel extensively for work (both domestic and international) and have yet to have Apple Maps take me to the wrong destination. I will say that the app lacks some polish, but for giving me what I really wanted (voice directions so I don't have to look at the screen...dangerous while driving), they have exceeded my expectations with their first, even if imperfect, release.

As for change to Lightning, it was the right move. I've not had any issues with my cables, although I will admit that its a major inconvenience given I'd so heavily invested in the 30-pin ecosystem (car headunit adapters, several clock radios, speakers, etc so I had frequent charging and integration points). But this is the price of progress so....can't really help that.

You are the one complaining that a private company released a propriatary connetor for their device while 90% of other companies use mico usb. My constructive feedback is if you want a micro usb cell phone buy one of those.

Not even going to get drawn into your stupid "debate".

There is nothing wrong with lightning, it's a good improvement over the outdated 30 pin, and your assumption above is just plain wrong.

I can charge my iphone 5 using any microUSB cable or charger I have, no "smart" cable needed.

How is it a good improvement? Has lightning given you any tangible benefits over the 30pin in usage?

That isn't the issue. Apple will drop this connector eventually, like it drops connectors every couple of years.

And your response is trolling because I used the phrase "negative tick" as in a tick in the negative column in a decision matrix. There are plenty of positive ticks.

The handset doesn't have wireless charging. It has a battery users cant swap on the fly. This makes availability of charging opportunities more important than many phones. When you add the proprietary nature (even before the expense) of the lighting, that is a negative tick of a lot of people -- to balance against other positive ticks.

When Apple replaced my 2 iphones for scratches the store let me keep my chargers, cables and pods. They then sent me a free one for a lightening that got stuck in a pc and which I was later able to extract. So I have five lightening fro two phones. But unlike you, I can understand other people who see the issue as a negative.

Dude, all I'm saying is that if you don't like the lightning connector you don't have to buy an iPhone. I don't know where you are coming from but I am just trying to point out that there are other options. Apple does not have a monopoly on phones. I for one think the lightning connector is great. If the 30 pin connector had been reversible I wouldn't really care but it wasn't and I ended up messing up the connector region of my 4/4s. So the lightning being reversible is awesome to me. Yeah much like everything else some people may not like it and think that Apple is wrong. But to those people I just say if you really don't like it there are other choices.

Most people got it right. The biggest blunder is..........

this silly poll.

The lighting connector is a big improvement and the maps app was necessary because Google would not allow the use of it's turn by turn navigation probably to protect the Android phones. It was time to move forward.

Dude, I own two iphones. I obviously look at several positives and negatives, the market and decided for two of our family membbes it would be best. I dont have regrets. I am just saying that people seeing aspects as a negative for them are doing so rationally.

Are yuo saying anyone who thinks the fixed memory scheme is a a negative should just shut up and go out and buy something else? Why cant we comment here on the things that went in our negative column?????

Again If you read my original post I noted that the quesiton was phrased wrong ("blunder") and that also people comparing to the fomer 30 pin were a different set of issues than people comparing it to micro usb.

How is lack of accessories a blunder for a cable?

^^^This. People are so used to getting things immediately these days that waiting a few months for accessories is apparently considered a blunder. New products should take time before third party accessories are built. Apple thrives on this -- milking their customers for every last ounce of their patience before they finally give them the magical product they so desire and have convinced themselves they need. It's great business.

Also, I for one haven't seen any posts about QC issues on lightning cables, so I can't comment on that. Frankly, I haven't heard any stories about them either, but QC issues are apparent in the launch of any product by any company, so I wouldn't consider it a "blunder".

thefreedictionary.com:
Blunder: A usually serious mistake typically caused by ignorance or confusion.

It would be ignorant to think any product launch these days would go off without QC issues, so on that end, Apple didn't blunder the Lightning cable. Apple certainly made a conscious business decision not to provide third parties the necessary licenses and information to manufacture lightning accessories so that wasn't an issue that could be considered a blunder either.

Is Lightning inconvenient? Sure, for some. But it's not like people bought an iPhone 5 without knowing that beforehand. At least I hope not.

Apple had the perfect opportunity to switch to the micro usb standard that every other phone manufacturer uses. That way they would integrate with the whole world, allowing users to charge with any charger, use any speaker dock in the future etc regardless of phone model. But no, of course they develop some new proprietary cable and charge extra for the adapter to tie users in even more and to make more money. Of course all companies are in it for the profit but if apple were completely confident in their products then they wouldn’t have to tie people in with proprietary nonsense to stop people leaving. I’m just glad I kept my email/contacts/calendar etc with google rather than iCloud so I can switch to any phone/tablet/computer I like at any time and still access my data

micro USB is rated for 1/2 the amperage that lightning this, meaning that using microUSB would double the recharge time
