Google Chrome is what Safari wishes it was.

I voted for Firefox, but since Google are progressing with Chrome at an insane pace it'll probably overtake it as my browser of choice soon enough.

chrome is mediocre at best. skynet/google just wants to intimidate the industry to make javascript stuff faster. "If you don't do it we will do it ourselves" mentality. The browser is clearly aimed at IE.

I have used Firefox for the whole day yesterday and I have to say that I liked the features it has very much. At the end of the day I returned to Safari because it renders text better and it integrates with the OS. Text just looks much better in Safari, even after I changed the fonts settings in Firefox to reflect Safari..
My vote goes to Safari. I wish Safari had the Firefox plugins though!

;-) Opera had for example not invented the tabbed browsing. It was 1994 a Browser called „InternetWorks“ ... and so on ..

And other browser manufacturer learn from mistakes. For example Mozilla,
they had as well a Web-browser, e-mail and newsgroup client, IRC chat client, and HTML editing ... an all-in-one Internet application suite that nobody really want (the Mozilla-suite, now called SeaMonkey).
As well a browser with a bad usability.
They invented then Firefox ... small, easy to use .. and successful.

But Opera still think the user want an all-in-one Internet application suite ... and still add countless other new nerd stuff in the package ... to make it even more complicated to use. When Opera want to be successful is it only stupid.
Is is only a nerd browser and ever will be ;-)

Cheers

Tabbed browsing. I didn't say they invented it, but that's the most you can pick out. Regardless, Opera was still the first mainstream browser to have it, and like all those other features I mentioned, it's one that Firefox picked up on. I guess it's just coincidence that Firefox consistently adds features right after Opera does (right after doesn't necessarily mean days, it just means not separated by years. And I'm hardly a nerd. I don't know jack about technical computer stuff, and neither do any of the other Opera users I know. Opera makes a clean, fast browser with lots of features, while still retaining the user usability. Sorry, but I've been using Opera since I was 13, and it was just as easy to use back then, when I knew even less than I know now.

Safari is laughed at outside of Mac users hell-bent on having something perfectly fit in with their OS despite it being a second rate browser.

I would say Chrome is aimed at giving WebKit what it deserves - a good browser using it! But yes, Google are also going straight after IE's market share - if the calls from OEM's wanting the beta tag removed are anything to go by...

I'd love to use Camino exclusively, but I'm waiting for inline PDF support and a GUI update that pimpmycamino just can't get quite right... maybe in 2.0

Safari for me otherwise, and Firefox when I'm Boot Camping

I have been using firefox lately and I really like it but there's some features that safari has and Firefox doesn't, Like the ability to drag out a tab and it Opens in a separate window, I loved this feature.

you can open a new window and drag a tab to it.
i like that feature to.

second thing on my list.
1. someway to control websites sound
2. able to drag a tab and have it open in new window.

I use Mozilla Firefox on both Mac OS X and Windows.

I have tried using Safari on Mac OS X, but I just can't get used too it.

Why did you have to impose this question for me!

I've put Opera, I love Speed Dial, and it's an extremely fast and accurate browser.
I also love Safari though for it's speed reliability and some nice add-ons you can find in MacUpdate.

-Google Chrome however, and a few of the other browsers shouldn't feature in this Poll. Mac only?

I used to use Camino almost exclusively on all of my Macs. FF3 and even more so the older versions, just seemed to bloat excessively in use. Camino gave me the FF rendering engine with a Mac look and feel and much less bloat. I don't want tabs, I don't even use bookmarks, I don't want any fancy stuff, I just want a browser that's quick to load when I type the URL www.xyz.com and that renders pages quickly and accurately. The latter aspect used to rule Safari out.

However, I recently saw a thread about the 10.5.6 update where several people were remarking about how much faster the latest Safari was. I gave it another whirl and, "wow!". It's just like the internet, only much faster!

So it's Safari for me up until I find a page I have to use that doesn't render properly, at which point I'll probably defect back to Camino. Thus far no problems though. It seems WebKit is getting there versus the last time I looked at it.

Upon seeing how popular Safari currently is, I gave it another go. This is what I found:
  • very rarely ever hear my fans but when I used Safari every once in a while the fans rev'ed up high for a a few secs (still rare, maybe coincidental)
  • prefer new Tabs instead of Windows but cannot see why Safari sometimes opens up links in new Windows
  • sometimes I click on an image link and Safari starts to download it instead of displaying in the browser
  • am used to just clicking the "/?" button for inline searches, its just one button instead of command-f, but it does nothing in Safari
  • prefer the previous button look of Safari over the new look in Leopard. The buttons look dull and outdated, reminds me of Netscape 6's "modern" look (except square)
  • don't notice that Safari is any faster than Camino or Opera
  • miss icons next to links on the toolbar
  • contrary to other reports, I cannot say that fonts look better in Safari (compared to defaults in Camino), they look the same
  • +the progress bar in the background of the URL bar looks cool
  • +tight integration is excellent & the ability to drag/drop to upload is useful
  • +URL auto-completion: Camino does not seem to auto-complete URLs from bookmarks like Safari does, so if you clear your history it will not auto-complete until after the first visit to a bookmarked URL
  • +the way Safari highlights search results is awesome
I change browsers from time to time but for now I'll stick with Camino and may go back to Opera sometime if the new trackpad gestures work properly

Also, the reason why there is a Camino is because FF integration on OS X sucks, so I was kinda surprised there are not more people using it.

PS: obviously I've become accustomed to and slant toward Camino (and Opera at times but now its Camino) & would be interested in the perspective of those who use Safari regularly & try Camino.

Popularity in and of itself does not mean much to me. Case in point, the world's most popular browser is (gag) IE. Of course, I am here to change all of that:

[*]I like new Tabs instead of Windows but cannot see why Safari sometimes opens up links in new Windows

There's a Terminal command floating around here that forces Safari to open in new tab instead of new window.

firefox

I continue to come back to FF, only because camino won't add things like extensions, for bookmark syncing and ad blocking.

And, safari doesn't do these things either across platforms. So, FF it is.

I use Camino for just about everything (Safari when Camino doesn't work, like on our CMS at work). I've preached the gospel of Camino at work quite a bit and installed it on people's machines (I'm so annoying). Of course, I surprised a tech guy once who was setting up something on a brand-new machine--"Hey, who installed this on here?" I hadn't wasted any time. :)

Safari's not terrible, though. Better than it used to be.

I have been using OmniWeb for about 18 months now. It's excellent and follows the Mac way of doing things even better than Safari.

I have tried many on the list and for me this is the best one of all. :apple:

I've never heard of it, but you can bet that I am going to try it now.

opera phone

I use Opera (10 alpha) on all of my computers. Opera link seemlessly keeps them all up to date with each other in terms of bookmarks, speed dial, notes and some other things.

Now if only I could get it on my phone, that way I would get over the air instant updates for all of the above and have my todos synced as well.

On my lowly PC google chrome chokes a lot, firefox is just too slow and internet explorer is well internet explorer. Safari for the PC is tripe as well. While Opera smmooooooth.

You can get it on a blackberry, unfortunately not on an iPhone
