What kind of keyboard do you want in the new MacBook Pro

After using a Macbook Air and a Macbook Pro for extended periods of time I can say that while the MBA keyboard isn't bad, the MBP keyboard is better. I can type slightly faster on the MBP keyboard because it has better tactile feedback.

The keyboard on the current MBP is excellent; love the backlit feature, and the solid feel from the keys on the keyboard itself. I find that I seem to make fewer typos on my "new" - four months old - MBP than on any of my previous notebooks.
:apple: MBP 15.4", 2.4ghz, 2GB RAM, 160 HDD
:apple: iPod classic, black, 30 GB

The keyboard on Macbook/Air/Other keyboards.

The MBP keyboard is really easy to get dirty (just look under the keys, its most likely a mess), and keys tend to break off for me. I've had arrow keys, escape/fn and command keys break off/get replaced a few times.

So I'm guessing Macbook [Air] has a dome switch keyboard with a chiclet key mounted on top which would explain why it's got better tactile. I still don't like the spaces. There is a reason the Thinkpad keyboards are still the best.

The same goes for the Macbook and Air keyboards.

After having used both, the current MBP keyboard is far better for prolonged typing, keyboard covers, and professional use.

The other keyboard is cute, but nothing I'd use for long periods of time, or for any serious work.

Current MBP Keyboard, keep it plastic, but make it black, so when the MBP is off, the keys look blank in most light.

The gap has widened again after an early surge by the chiclet keyboards, which apparently, everyone hates and is vocal enough to say it. Why the pro-chiclet silence? Where's the chiclet love? :p

Apple needs to keep the differentiation between the MBP and MB lines. Keeping the existing keyboard would help support that difference.

Of course, from recent rumors, it looks like the MacBook is going to be redesigned to look more like the Air or Pro. So maybe the styles will all be very similar?

And i voted to keep the current one, mainly because i like the looks of it better. It has a much more unified look than the Air. But that doesn't mean i dislike the "chicklet" keyboard. It's a nice keyboard to type on, for sure.

I always said the MacBook Pro keyboard in these polls, but now having had my Apple Wireless Keyboard for quite some time now; I really want the new MacBook Pro to have the new style keyboard.

The current one feels weak and cheap - the keys don't all stand perfectly flat or line up perfectly like the new keyboard does. My S key has been squint even since I bought the my MacBook Pro, and I've taken it off, tried to sort it and it just flops a few degrees out.

Now to talk about the actual usage of the keyboard from the look - I actually type faster and more accurately on the new keyboard than the current MacBook Pro one.

Coming to want to upgrade my MacBook Pro in a year or so, I hope Apple will include the new keyboard by then.

If it's gonna be a total redesign, bring on the new stuff!! like the chicklet keyboard

If it's a total redesign, why even use either of them? Surprise us with something totally new and better (hopefully) than anything in the past.

I voted for the current MBP keyboard, don't like the keyboard on my MacBook.

Although now that they have the keyboard backlit on the Air they may "standardize" the keyboard range, as even the new keyboards that are with iMacs/Mac Pros are of a similar style, the MBP is the odd one out.

This is true of the chiclet keys as well. And it adds:

- Gets dirty far too quickly
- Gets dirt underneath the keys that is harder to get out
- Can't type on them correctly with key covers
- Loader than the MBP keys.
- Doesn't cradle fingers like curved MBP keys

If they do change it, make it much better than both current keyboards. The Thinkpads are overrated as well, better than the chiclets, on par with the MBP IMHO.

- My wireless keyboard does get dirty, but it is easily wipe-able. Gets rid of the dirt using a damp cloth.

- My MacBook Pro keyboard is prone to dirt underneath too - especially where the spacebar is. I had a biscuit crumb under there for ages before I realised what was causing my spacebar to click.

- I've never used key covers, unless you mean the actual style of the keys?

- Loader than the MBP keys? You mean longer? Yes, took me a while to get used to, but once I was used to it, I really preferred it.

- The little grove in the MBP keyboard is nice, and it would be nice if Apple included a slight one in the new keyboards.
