i love my old IBM model M! :D
best. keyboard. ever.

Is that the really loud one? If so, then yes....best keyboard ever. Would be great to retro-mod one of those to USB for use at work so it would sound like I'm actually being productive when in fact I'm just here on macrumors :p

- My wireless keyboard does get dirty, but it is easily wipe-able. Gets rid of the dirt using a damp cloth.

- My MacBook Pro keyboard is prone to dirt underneath too - especially where the spacebar is. I had a biscuit crumb under there for ages before I realised what was causing my spacebar to click.

- I've never used key covers, unless you mean the actual style of the keys?

- Loader than the MBP keys? You mean longer? Yes, took me a while to get used to, but once I was used to it, I really preferred it.

- The little grove in the MBP keyboard is nice, and it would be nice if Apple included a slight one in the new keyboards.

Sorry, I meant louder. And as much as I fuss over typos, I am so ashamed.

And I agree with the last part. They could make a hybrid and I'd be happy.

The key covers are like that silicon protective stuff that you see in the stores and online. The ones done by Logickey and zCover.

It's the best way to get protection and program shortcuts on laptops. The covers just don't play well with those big square buttons.

Another vote for the current keyboard. The chiclet keyboard just does nothing for me. In fact, the keyboard is part of the reason I'm waiting until the next MB refresh (whether it's in September or 2009) in hopes that Apple will

1.) Give the MB a backlit keyboard
2.) Get rid of the chiclet look

or, at the very least

3.) Leave the MBP keyboards alone!!!

If the chiclet look stays, and the MBP keeps its current keyboard design, then I'll pony up for a low-end MBP instead of a maxed out MB.

Either way, I'll never ever EV-ER own a laptop again without using one of these

My iBook keyboard looks as good as the day I opened the box thanks to that little scrap of silicone, it's probably one of the best Mac accessories I've ever bought.

honestly a keyboard is a keyboard to me, regardless of what they used I would be able to get used to it eventually.

I have a macbook right now and I am very comfortable with this keyboard chiclet set up.

If it was the one on the current ones, then that would be great still I like the macbook pro keyboards they feel so soft and comfy

When I got my MacBook I loved the keyboard, by far one of the best keyboards that I have ever used. I thought I was going to hate moving to the MBP keyboard, simply because I loved the MB keyboard. In fact it was the complete opposite. The MBP keyboard is bar far on of the most amazing keyboards that I have ever used. That said, I use the Apple Bluetooth keyboard with my MBP when Im at my desk so I still get to keep my old MB style keyboard too.

Honestly I dont think I care either way, both keyboards are great and once you get used to them they are both easy to touch type on.

Pfff...:p

As for me... I agree with what users have been saying... keyboard is keyboard. As long as it's still backlit...

Actually I think a keyboard can be one of the absolutely most important parts of your computer. It's the only tactile interface you have with a machine, and almost defines your experience in that way.

One Vote for Chiclet

Here's some 5 cents from somebody new to the market who's waiting for the MBP redesign to switch.

I get the feeling that those with the current MBP design will always favour the current keyboard because its what they: [1] brought it, and, [2] have got too used to it, and consequently feel a buy-in to it. Sort of like, "I've got it, there's no turning back, and I don't want mine to appear outdated with a new design" standpoint. I can understand this and to a certain extent sympathise with it.

However having tried both out numerous times I find myself absolutely in the chiclet camp. The main reasons are:
[1] I can type equally well on both
[2] The chiclet seems to give better tactile feedback
[3] I have a fundamental dislike of that awful gap at the bottom of the current keyboard. For some reason it really urkes me. It just seems the perfect chasm to loose dust, flotsam and jetsam into. The hard edge at the back of it also is a weird design. Why put a hard edge right where your palms would naturally lay when typing.
[4] The chiclet keyboard seems easier to keep clean and not expose gaps into the case.
[5] I don't seem to mind at all the black keys on silver. For some reason I quite like the visible contrast that emphasies thats its the 'human interface' to the device.

Sorry to the old school folks but to me, and as a newbie, the chiclet style just seems progressive and inline with where Apple is heading.

I'd be massively disappointed if they kept the current keyboard in the current design.

Umm, I will have to say chiclet because the rest of the keyboard line is already there. Think of how much more difficult it will be to replace the chiclet keyboard if you spill something down in it... I even miss the idea of my old Tibook keyboard that just popped out for replacement... But from a strictly design and aesthetic standpoint, chiclet all the way.
