First off, physical vapor deposition or PVD, does not nearly have the strength that diamond like carbon coating or DLC does. PVD simply a method that is used to apply a film or protective layer over a material to help strengthen and protect against corrosion and scratching. PVD is most common of a process to be used on firearms For protection. I don't think it's necessarily Apples goal to discuss in detail about what PVD is on their website, given that one could research exactly what it is.

Direct quote from article:

"PVD produces coatings with superior hardness, durability and resistance to wear. PVD Coatings reduce friction for high performance moving parts making them widely used in the aerospace and automotive industry, and for cutting tools where long lasting durability is the crucial success factor."

The diamond like carbon coating used on the Apple Watch space black is more of a protective paint and is extremely durable. When Apple actually did advertise the DLC used on the Apple Watch black stainless at one point, they never actually physically talked about how durable it was either. However, Apple no longer mentions the use of DLC on the space black Apple Watch anymore on the website, although they still do use it.

DLC is a material. PVD is a process. DLC is applied by using PVD

If I had the black SS Apple Watch I would go for the Grey iPhone X.

But the fact that I have 10 to 12 straps for my Silver SS watch I can't change my watch now.

So that is why I am leaning towards the Silver iPhone X. Hope it will not scratch badly on the frame.

I stated verbatim in bold listed below, PVD is a process/method in my Post. I also stated DLC is a protective paint, which is fairly obvious that it is a material.

Can I use this as I have this at home?

Can use only for Silver SS or also for the black?

Cape Cod cloths are used to polish stainless steel and other metals that remove scratches. You can use it on the stainless steel edges on the iPhone in all likeliness to remove any scratches for the silver iPhone X. I would just try to avoid the display.

I also use this on my Stainless Apple Watch to remove scratches. It works as intended.

But what is the point of minimizing scratches if you cover everything up with a case anyway? You never even get to admire its beauty.

I admired the beauty of my 6s plus . . . Then it hit the floor and the screen shattered. After that I just admired the shattered screen en route to the Apple Store. o_O

So you have used it for the Apple Watch without any issues then it should also be fine for the iPhone X Silver. Let's hope.

Will it be bad if we use it to polish the frame once a month for a year?

I polish my Apple Watch stainless watch once a month to remove all the micro-abrasions and I have not had any issues with it. A Cape Cod cloth will not damage the steel, it helps restore it.

When you polish the edges on the silver stainless steel X band, you just want to avoid having it touch the display/oleophobic coating. And if any of the substance from the Cape Cod cloth touches the display, just use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe off any excess.

I plan on using a glass screen protector and will probably put some tape or cloth on the edge of the glass.

How do you do It?

Yes agreed. Don’t get it anywheree near the screen
Regarding the polish, it will remove a thin layer because that’s how it removes the scratches. Same as detailing a car to remove swirl marks. A polishing compound takes a fine layer off the top

I need a case for grip. If I went caseless with any phone it would be broken within a week. And I I sport clear cases. So when I want to show it off I slip a clear skin case on it.

I hate bulk. Like to use Skins on my phones.

Will be going the shop tomorrow to ask them about the 3M transparent film for the frame. Will use that for a month or so and then will start to use the phone freely.

Lmaooo...Cape cod on a phone?

I have used those clothes in the past, and boy is a pita to avoid it getting anywhere else besides where it needs to go.

I actually have used it to polish the finish on my Rolex a few times, and you really must be carful with it, rubber gloves are a must.

As far as using it on a phone? I don’t know guys, if that stuff happens to get in the phone or on the screen, it’s an issue because it’s some pretty powerful stuff. And yes it’s good for only micro scratches, nothing deeper.

The finishes on both the iPhone for the bands are looked to be the same as the iwatch, which in theory are very diffenent. The silver is mirrored stainless steel and high polished, while the black is an oxidized metal.

If anyone is looking to avoid seeing scratches the black is the way to go, yes the SS is a harder material, but it is insanely easy to scratch that mirrored finish, and I personally would rather not risk polishing an electric device where a polish agent can do damage. Just my 2 cents after experiencing use with both materials.

True. Still not a fan of the added bulk, but hey that’s why we all have our own opinions, haha.
I get a super thin clear case from this company cadaube, it is light as a feather and super thin. It apparently has 6 foot drop protection but i find that hard to believe given how light and thin this damn thing is. One thing that's for sure is the case will not take away at all from the beauty of the phone. That was a big deal for me to; if you are going to spend $1500 on a phone that looks fantastic, why throw a $100 ugly otterbox on it. Makes no sense

Why the obsession to match the phone with the watch? It’s not that you will be putting them on the table at the same time, or flashing them around like crazy. Or will it just make you feel better that their matching?

Darn, my Apple Watch is black, my iPhone is silver and my iPad is gold and not in any case I felt bad about it.

Now if were talking about clothes...

I have a feeling some company will release something to either protect the frames from scratches or help to polish it.

Apple products gets lots of support from 3rd party companies.

not trying to be weird, but u won’t see the back of the phone often (you’ll feel it, but would u ‘feel’ scratches?), and if you use wireless charging, just be careful w/o a case on it

i have a jb + & i’ve been pretty careful with it, it’s been naked for almost a year

It's not only matching the devices that I like but the fact that all phones since iPhone 3G that I have owned have been black or Grey.

The 10th Anniversary US $1500 Phone from Apple needs to be special and different.

Also the Space Grey Phone looks similar to the Jet Black one I used. Wish it was not so black in color.

I had used the Jet Black iPhone 7Plus with a skin since day one. No scratches.

Now that is why I have decided to try to figure out to use a transparent 3M film for the silver frame and 2 to 3 skins for the back to keep changing every other month or so.

The Dbrand site has some good options and from the looks it seems silver model will look excellent with skins.
